In the end it just gave up and said that it's proud of him, no matter what he do. The idea of a destined Guardian is a superstition held by some Ghosts. In Moths to the Flame Sagira states quite plainly that the Warlord's Ghost will return the Traveler and then be off to find another one. An uncertain Ghost resurrected a child because they felt bad for them.

They may not be corrupted, but the ghost lost it's mind and drifter was resurrected without one. I'm waiting for the dead guy, who drifter borrowed his personality from , to come back as a guardian and take it back.

I think this is a very cool theory, but I don't see it being very likely, since we've been told the story is going to revolve around stopping Eramis who is uniting the Fallen after acquiring darkness powers. Also if we were fugitives we wouldn't be able to go to the tower which would totally screw a lot of systems in the game, and I don't see Bungie adding a new social space this time around because correct me if I'm wrong, but every time a new social space has been added we've been told well before the DLC comes out.

The interesting thing about the record of this altercation is that it picks up right in the middle of the altercation, Sola is bleeding, and Aunor and her partner have obviously recently exchanged fire with this Guardian. We don’t know what happened, we don’t know the extent of the dialogue shared between Sola and Aunor. We simply don’t know the truth of this event. Aunor has proven to be...zealous in her approach to events and her interpretation of morality. My Guardian and Ghost rightly warned the Drifter of her attention/interest in him, and it’s probably for good reason Drifter considers us part of his crew. Guardians don’t know if the Traveler is “good” and the Darkness “evil”. Such a simple paradigm seems lacking, especially with the scarcity of recorded details available from which to formulate our opinions. Things are rarely as cut and dry as they appear on the surface. Are these Guardians Aunor is...”questioning”... “corrupted”? What does that word even mean? Especially when coming from someone like Aunor, who already has a demonstrated dislike and suspicion (rightly so) of our Guardian or anyone who has a difference of opinion from the accepted Praxic Order narrative. The ghosts are free to make their own choices. The Traveler’s argument is to give power to all, without judgement...hoping they will use it to build instead of destroy. As such, a ghost has free will as well...which imo explains their “corruption”. Honestly that ghost sounds more like a person who is fed up with lack of direction rather than desire for power. The Dark speaks openly and provides direction...which must be awfully appealing for guardians/ghosts who have fought and died for literally centuries without any direct guidance from their god.

I think it is possible for Ghosts to fall, but it takes an especially rebellious or disillusioned one to go as far as Sola's Ghost, a lot of it has to do with how the Ghost grows and interacts with its environment. As I've mentioned in the comments of a previous video I believe that our Ghosts can channel Darkness if they are willing and have a direct enough connection, comparing what the Drifter had to do out in the ass end of no-where and us in the EDZ with Travellers Shard.

In the Red War, the player character experiences a vision that shows them where to go to reclaim their lost power, among other things that will happen in the future like the Leviathan arriving at Nessus. I've always seen ghosts as more of a conduit, in which the traveler can feed light through them remotely. When we get closer to darkness, they are able to overpower that light and siphon darkness through the ghosts. Something that hasn't been mentioned as far as I've seen is how rasputin possesses our ghost in that one adventure on io. Does rasputin possess some sort of paracausal power or are ghosts just able to "be hacked"

Since the first time I did the New Light intro mission (idk if it was part of the original intro), the way our ghost was introduced to us, the way his voice changed, has always made me think that ghosts are like us Guardians: the risen souls of previously lived beings, and because of that, i believe they are just as corruptible as us.

In The Pigeon and the Phoenix lore book, specifically Moths to Flame parts 1&2, Osiris and Sagira deal with a warlord and his Ghost who both seem to be corrupted. This was happened in the dark ages when the City was still very young. I find it intriguing that some Ghosts give in to Darkness along with their Guardians while others, like the Ghost of Dredgen Yor, have been seen desperately pleading with their Guardians to come back to the light.

What's most concerning about the Darkness' corruption is that it often isn't caused by direct influence. What we're seeing so many cases of recently isn't the Darkness worming its way into a Guardian's mind, turning them with promises of power beyond what the Traveler can offer, it's conflict of ideologies. Guardians forming their own opinions based on given information and actively deciding to forsake the Traveler. Personally, I find that far scarier than some all-powerful force of evil turning good people into brainwashed puppets. If that were the case, we'd at least have hope of turning them back.

My Hunter friend said that if he was given the offer to join the Darkness, he would take it. His argument was that the Traveler just left all those planets, the Ammonites, the Eliksni and even us to our fate. But the Darkness, that's the path to survival. But that to me is nonsensical. I would cite, as the only evidence against the Darkness: even if the Traveler doesn't care for us (just suppose), does that make the Darkness any better? Does it justify the torture the Darkness subjected the humans of the Golden Age to? To make them watch their civilization collapse and every soul die, horribly? No. The Traveler might not win. It is in the nature of the Darkness to destroy, not in the Traveler, not in the Light. But Guardians have the ability to wield Light as a weapon. Our duality allows us to master both Dark and Light, as seen by legends like Rezzyl Azzir and Dredgen Yor. Rezzyl laid down the foundations of the City and for all Striker Titans but he also gave in to the Darkness. Why? Hubris? The need to feel special? The desire to be free of the burden of protecting humanity for centuries upon centuries with no fruit? And that every victory should only increase the burden and not lessen it? Or maybe it was just pride. I don't know. My apologies to the fine folk who even read my comment for the length.

I love the fact that the death of the hunter vanguard actually has effects on the last city. I just don't want Uldren to fill the spot. People often say he should be the hunter vanguard because of Cayde's dare and that it would make a great redemption story. I'm all for his redemption, but I really would hate it if he were to become the new vanguard. Shiro-4 is a much better candidate in my opinion.

To be honest though, unless there was an arc or years passed it wouldn't make much sense for Uldren. The vanguard are tested guardians still, they need to be leaders and I suppose the idea of the hunter dare is to ensure somebody both unlucky and capable enough to be able lead. Uldren is a rookie guardian and there's every charms he'd make a mess of it.

I thought in D1 Ghosts were literal chunks of the Traveler. As D2 progressed, I now believe they are manufactured by the Traveler similar to how Rasputin has the means to make Warsats and frames. The Traveler creates them as a means of defense.

I'm curious about what the difference is between 'THE DARKNESS' as an entity/entities and the darkness as a power. The prophecy dungeon and the beyond light trailer seem to suggest that darkness and light are a matter of perspective as in they change depending on where you stand (ie in a shadow or in broad daylight). To me this suggests that we are not dealing with a Star Wars style light/dark jedi/sith kind of dichotomy but more of a chaos/order type of duality. You can do both good and evil with forces of chaos and forces of order. Interestingly if this analysis is correct, the darkness might aligned with stasis and order, while the traveler is aligned with growth and chaos.

Imagine in a raid if at one point everyone gets separated and has to solo a boss that is an evil version of them like you said, and that's the entire encounter. They could give you ways to influence the others after defeating your own or perhaps a certain amount of people have to defeat their double to pass or something. Plenty of opportunities there.

It wants us to go on it's side on our own free will so that the Winnower can laugh in the face of the Gardener while proving itself right. You know. This story reminds me of Star Wars. More so Revenge of the Sith. I could be wrong and who knows, but I feel like the light is like the Galactic Republic before Palpatine takes over in full force. However, if you think about it, it is going that way. It also sort of lines up with the DLC (as of writing this). D1 to Rise of Iron was The Phantom Menace, Red War to the end of Forsaken was Attack of the Clones, and I bet that Shadowkeep to Lightfall is Revenge of the Sith. It will be interesting if things go that way, because that is where it is going in my eyes.

I would argue that the Drifter's ghost was infected with darkness. The fact it decided to kill it's fellow ghosts to get them home. But it could just be survival instincts taking over.

It's not the fact that they can't exist without the other, it's the fact that if the other one wasn't there to balance it out, it would be like hell. Leaked Drifter dialogue shows him getting his brain fucked with and showed visions by the Emissary and the Nine. True light sounds horrifying while true dark sounds depressing. The vanguard is finished unless Uldren takes up the mantle which he probably will.

See, I don't think the Vanguard is at fault for what's been happening. The pressure has been rapidly building up and chipping away at them. There was a time where Zavala would have leapt up into arms to avenge the death of a guardian. But The Red War humbled him and showed him that Guardians are not the end all be all he once thought they were. And Ikora, once the only level headed one in the room, is now quick to jump to action because she's witnessed spiritual, and physical loss. Life and circumstances have pushed the Vanguard down, and it just so happens that it was at a very inopportune time. We must stand by our allies in their time of need just as they stood by our side in our time of need.

Great content as usual. Just wanted to mention, the tale of Sola Scath is actually much deeper than just temptation's hook. That scene seems to be the aftermath of a particularly nasty Trials match. The order for the full thing is: The Summoner, Exile's Curse, Astral Horizon, Eye of Sol, Tomorrow's Answer, The Scholar, and finally Temptation's Hook. If you read these lore tabs in order you can see the full story. She seems to be being built up into a potential villain not unlike the Dredgen Yor story. I'm excited to see where she pops up next.

Actually from personal perspective of the games community, many many guardians have begun using the darkness. As we know when you touch the darkness it will touch you and with this touch the dark vanguard is being born within the walls. Many controversial events are taking place. The vanguard forming an alliance with the cobal, accepting the fallen within the city, and now accepting the darkness within the guardian ranks. I believe a fracturing is on the horizon I also hope that destiny 3 will have new races such as fallen and cobal.
