My boredom has peaked when I muted all character voices and background music in the game when I'm playing. I rather let it be quiet and only hearing gun sound than I have to listen to the cringe dialogue which these Episodes offered. I am also no longer care about the lore, just go there shoot some enemies, watch cutscene for the lol then move on. I agree with some people the game has ended for me with the Witness. This is like marvel phase 4, I play D2 because there is no game like it out there, but I dont care about any of it.

It is necessary, since The Guardian is now effectively the most powerful known being in the universe (the power creep displays that quite nicely in game lol), but I don’t *buy* The Conductor as being equally powerful. Fikrul the Fanatic? That I buy. Idk.

I’m glad bungie changed their content plans because if episodes are going to be as underwhelming and pointless, then I would have stopped playing the game immediately. I can’t believe we are back to the trope of Destiny where we get an interesting villain who doesn’t do much in the grand scheme of things and when they get defeated, it’s like nothing happened. The story ended how it started. And she’s supposedly not even dead. Do we need another savathun/Eramis villain that can never truly die? Man I just hope the next ones aren’t as bad.

The observation about not having a boss fight for Maya is spot on. Destiny simply does not have unique bosses, with very few exceptions. It's always just a big Hydra, or a big Shield Cabal, or whatever, possibly with some new mechanics or particle effects. I remember back as far as Forsaken, people wondering if we'd get to have a duel with Prince Uldren as a boss fight to cap off the campaign. Even then I remember thinking how crazy it was that people in an MMO were so desperate for just one single unique boss, and all they got was a Servitor with tentacles.

I guarantee you the devs at Bungie would love to design new bosses (nobody who works in a creative space enjoys doing the same thing over and over again), but they have zero dev time/funding to do so. It seems the studio is constantly inches from drowning and critically pressed for manpower, so they have to tread water by recycling existing assets. Either way, the result is the same, and I agree with you - I've put the game down until this trend changes. We need something new to fight!!

I figured this was how the Episode was going to end. Act 1 and 2 felt like an act 1. The beginning of Act 3 felt like the beginning of an act 2. And by the time we got to step 15 of Act 3 it started feeling like the start of an act 3. I was like, "And this is where Bungie rushes the final act causing a dissatisfying conclusion." Imagine Final Shape concluding with a giant Tormentor instead of fighting the Witness. All the emotional impact would have been lost from Final Shape. Even if Maya's entire fight was a floating T-pose model of her shooting Hydra shots out of no where I would have been satisfied. Something where we actually fight the main antagonist. Bungie states they are going to "innovate" in Apollo, yet they give us something like this as the conclusion of an "innovative" new way to deliver story...see why I'm scared for the future of D2 and Frontiers? How am I supposed to believe them?

For me, the reason this episode was so meh, was the villain. She is NOT threatening at all and she is using the vex, the least interesting/threatening enemy we have. I still look to the mission where we learn that Maya is the conductor and we just leave the moment she summons two goblins. Like WHAT? I could have killed her in a nanosecond and ended this BS, but we didn't just because she gave Saint had a headache. I presume the entire goal for the season was to try to make the Vex a better threat/race by giving them autonomy and/or a main leader. But I still believe they should have used Asher for this instead of Maya. He is not only a MUCH more popular character, but it could have been a more interesting plot IMO if Asher got the Echo and used it to give a selection of vex autonomy in the hopes that is would lead to the vex starting a civil war of sorts, but maybe that backfires and creates a super vex mind (like Panopties from Curse of Osiris) that starts to corrupt/control the vex. Think Avergers Age of Ultron, where the mind stone is used to make Ultron. Then the entire season could have been us doing everything we can to stop this Ultron vex (I'll call him Vextron) vex from getting the Echo, or corrupting the entire vex network by going into it again. Maybe we visit other Vex groups like the ones in Vog, or Salvation to stop Vextron from controlling them all. Ideally, we would see Vextron experiment on vex to create NEW forms made specifically for combat OR by mixing multiple vex bodies together. Or maybe we FINALLY use the fact that the vex can apparently convert other races into vex as seen via Asher, and Vexton decides to convert other races into vex or create vex hybrids. Then we could fight Hybrid Fallen, Cabal, Hive, HUMANS/GUARDIANS? etc... SO many possibilities they scrapped to just bring back one of the most hated characters, have her become a control freak with zero emotion (the main issue with the vex in the first place), f*ck up Saint and Osiris a bit, and drag out a story any guardian could have cleaned up in like a day or two. Honestly, I thought they would use their brain and realize they needed to hit HARD with the first story after the Final Shape to keep people interested in the story at all. But if the last few months has shown anything, its that the people that give orders at Bungie are NOT doing a lot of thinking.

The Vex are odd, because they're an unstoppable, immeasurable force pulled straight from existential horror... except they live in a fast paced shooter where victory is shooting the bad guy till it dies. The best Vex stories are all in lore, rather than told in the game itself, because the horror loses it's sting when you find a boss with a hitbox and fire an LFR at it.

Literally nothing was accomplished this episode, we ended in the exact same way we began. Saint and osiris having a perfect relationship. Saint being the bambastic titan he always was. Maya sundaresh started off crazy, and ended crazy. Chioma Esi was dead, came back for 7 seconds in a message, and died again. Maya started as a dangerous unpredictable enemy, and ended with her disapearing and becoming an ....unpredictable enemy. Wow, its like the last 4 months were for nothing.

You also can't just swap over to a new engine without having to retrain all your employees which is a huge time/money sink. Focusing on the engine also means they'll have to shut down D2 and D1 for indefinite maintenance until they get the engine sorted out because they'll need all the help they can get to work on it as quickly as possible... Which would take at least 2-3 years. Then that's another 5-8 years of making Destiny 3, which means Bungie will be making no money from Destiny for about 7-11 years. The only ways we're getting a "Destiny 3" is if Bungie aren't making it, Destiny 2 makes like 2 billion dollars in a month, or it's made alongside Destiny 2's updates over 20 years.

They're good at starting things but they have no follow through once laziness and boredom settles in. Let Sony keep the lights on for D2 until the last die-hard Destiny Fanboy quits in disgust. Sony can put a top-notch studio to work making D3 down the road. Bungie brings nothing more to the table now that Sony owns the IP.

@@martyk656 it's up to Sony what happens to Bungie, but the problem is that Sony does NOT know how to run a live service game, go look at Helldivers 2 and Concord. Literally no one in their company knows how to run a live service game. Bungie is the closest they have and look at how far that's gone lol Sony can't keep the lights on for Destiny 2 because they don't even know how to turn them on in the first place. If Bungie is gone, Destiny is too unfortunately.

my favorite part of echoes was realizing the vision through the portal in the renewed whisper mission was just a speedrun version of encore who's timer couldn't be more forgiving if they tried I expected a more interesting tease on vex stuff, maybe a vision of their home world, but as far as low balling this is a new swerve I didn't know bungie could throw at this point happy 10 years, glad to be there

I really enjoyed the exotic mission. I love all the side bits and hidden things they put inside. All of the radio messages from the Chioma copies in the Vex Network are really cool. I agree that the ending with Maya melting into Radiolaria was a pretty dumb climax though. It doesn't feel like we're in a different position than we were at the beginning of the season. Feels almost more like the half-way point of a story

The worst part is... If they want to make the playerbase care about the NPCs and their relationships and thus "World Build" and Develop narrative threads and plots from them.... They need to make an effort. Produce actual cutscenes, produce moments with actual weight. Hearing chatter over a radio is not engaging for the bulk of a story. The lack of visual emotion, the lack of symbolism, the lack of substance makes players go: "What the fuck do I care?", "Tell these folks to get a room." It's laughable cause, I can 'See' what they hoped to achieve but they failed in presentation. Might as well release: Destiny - The Movie But the film is literally just a black screen with some voice chatter playing for 3hrs. Then they act shocked everyone/audiences hated it. 🤦🏾 And we won't talk about the 'Grand Finale'/boss fight. I do not understand Bungie's logic when it comes to *cough* 'climactic' battles. Yikes!

Its paint by numbers generic writing if the had a decent plot and designed the game around that it would be a lot more enjoyable. I think when they killed Cayde the plot kind of wrote itself after that in terms of a revenge story. We the audience, became engrossed in avenging one of our favorite characters. Its not hard to make characters likeable but you need to give them a direction. Crow is an example, he started out strong and they wrote him off a cliff.

Yea I didn't want to get the annual pass. But I was still curious. If this is what episodes are. I want at least a silver refund for the next two episodes. Because I really don't care for the rest. After I get the Festival of the Lost armors, a couple screens. I'm out. Bungie isn't getting a single dime from me any more. As I said when I bought TFS. Bungie had no intention to respect it's customers, or listen to the community. What is worse is that she escaped. All this for a fking cliffhanger for an Echo that we are supposed to stop from happening. So angry. That ending should not have happened like that.

After the 2nd week needing to waiting until something happened we went back to warframe and never been back. Split feeling on this: 1. Have actually enjoyed the content more most of the last year. However... 2. It's still just episodic content. This is the sort of stuff that should be included in a big update, day 1, tied into the core of the game. Not thrown at the game later. Anyway can't believe it took me until today to realise the reason the other Esi's being reported missing in the timelines was as a result of Maya killing them (and presumably by wiping them from the timeline, they took with them other characters who they would have influenced to that point in time - butterfly chaos theory). I had this thing in my head it was some kind of existential Vex Network threat because of the way they had initially presented the research Maya was conducting before they found the other iterations. Anyway, I think the Exotic Mission is solid. I quite enjoyed the lore dive with Maya, but this feels very much like content that should have been in Season of the Splicer or equivalent, or have been tied into Vexcalibur with a suitable dose of Asher Mir rather than the Osiris / Saint love story (which, again, felt like content from soon after Sundial season delayed until now and merged with some other stuff).

I loved the body horror Maya/Chioma stuff (bit sad the lesbians don't get a happy ending but at least space grandpa's are safe for now) but that should not have been the focus of the Episode, it should have been optional / hidden stuff for the lore nerds who know who the characters are already

@AGrumpyWitch Yeah, the episodic structure seems to be an obstruction to including content with the base game, allowing weeks and months of exploration. Instead they try to maintain constant gameplay by inventing new modes every month, which they then destroy regardless of if they are well received or not. Feels like the focus of seasonal content is very distracting to coherent story telling. Particularly when they timegate it without any particularly significant narrative cues.

I’m so sick of the angsty teenage cringe inducing sexual drama and LGBTQ pandering… Doesn’t matter what way they swing, if the dialogue and story are shit then it’s shit. As a thought experiment, make Saint a chick and Chioma a dude. We’ve all come across that couple IRL that are overtly affectionate to each other in public. Once or twice is sweet, but all the time is uncomfortable and annoying - unless the onlooker is a perv that enjoys watching other people. If it doesn’t pass the cringe sniff test when swapping sexes then something is off with the writing. The entire season feels awkwardly contrived as a way to write about two gay ‘power couples’ overtly expressing their love and feelings for each other in practically every scene and audio log. The voice acting is camped up to such an extreme degree it feels so cringe and off putting. It feels like glorified fan fiction shipping their own characters. Destiny is supposed to be a sci-fi space fantasy action game with supernatural powers set against a galactic conflict between ancient civilisations against the comparatively young and fledgling humanity. We’re NOT here for a childish romance novel…. Keep the couples drama to text logs. There is such limited screen time as is. Use mission, cutscene and audio log dialogue to develop and enhance the galactic conflict, not dwell on interpersonal romantic relationships. This obsession with sexual preferences at the expense of all other character traits shows just how naive and shallow society has become. Show some restraint, then when some character relationships are revealed they will have more depth and impact.

Theres no excuse for this. I mean there is an excuse but also its a pathetic one. One Episode, 3 Acts to establish a dilemma, motivation, conflict, and consequences and thats just the simplified version You have done a poor job if your consumers do not understand all three which makes me believe this story is not self contained which i was told it was and thats me giving it the benefit of doubt. Yeah this is definitely a lightfall story. But at the very least the Saint & Osiris parts did give me all four and i cared that we could lose Saint 14

I do gotta give it to them I was actually vibing a bit with the "Maya proves Saint's fears were true but that doesn't matter because Saint made his own fate while Chioma wasn't allowed to." though it would have been nice if Osiris didn't just shout "MAYA IS DOING WHAT I DID BUT DIFFERENT AND BAD" near the end to just completely tell everything they tried to show. I'm not 14 bungie I can understand context. Still doesn't help the whole "do an activity 3 times in a row" part of the progression unfortunately

My only guess is that this entire thing was a loose culmination of an incredibly old yet differently formatted story idea they wanted to work with(classic good guy gone rogue with enemy army trope) but combination of having to stretch the story in different directions, other plot threads taking priority, and just the Vex being not super interesting or crazy fleshed out adversary made it a bit hard to really push at an earlier time. I don't think it was ever a mistake why Future War Cult had closet full of Chekovs Guns(see time prediction machine The Device), as well as other plot stuff with Ishtar that lead on there was something bigger to be had with Maya sooner than later. There's some connections you could even draw back in D1 that some sort of "thing" was up with FWC's whole ordeal and I think if Bungie got their original game and series, this would've all been delivered way more timely. On top of that Bungie themselves were pretty explicit in Year 2 when we had 0 Faction Rallies of them saying, yeah we thought about a Faction season but didn't really have anything to work with, and then that got backed up a little with Splicer and possessed Lakshmi2 out for blood. Even the Clovis vs Ishtar mad science lore in Beyond Light where I think he gets vivisected on by a rogue Maya clone is arguably older lore that was dropping further hints. It's not ideal but yeah my guess is that Bungie just wanted to get this one out of the way so they could have any Vex stuff sorta cool off, especially again Maya mentions and dead Exo have been incredibly old lore that just had no payoff.

The little conclusion Failsafe has on the HELM was nice and maybe could have worked as the entire theme for the episode, to keep going on for yourself; but it feels like each Act was written in a weird semi mailable bubble so all together they dont work. Well when Frontiers begins it’s back to being seasons soooooo just 2 more of episode hell 😅 We’ll never get seasons like when Rasputin died anymore huh? Still my favorite season, cutscenes animated well, you saw the Witness using Eramis, like the world was gonna be nuked. Rasputin dying even was trending everywhere, they cooked. Episodes are just whatever gimme my new weapons and I tune out 🙄 They acknowledge the cadence is boring, I hope they fix it sooner than later

I feel like the Vex needed a sort of Skynet, Hal 9000, SHODAN, Glados, Vicky from i Robot and Hivemind enemy that goes Rogue from the Main Vex because this jusg felt like it wasnt it.
