I’m surprised by this comment. There definitely HAVE been instances where Bungie was very opaque and unethical, like the past era where Bungie throttled EXP gains to slow down the Bright Engrams drop rate for dedicated players. However, in general, and especially during the most recent era, under Joe Blackburn, I feel like Bungie has been mostly transparent and mostly committed to staying connected to the players’ community. Your comment stating that Bungie is “perpetually evasive” honestly is bull crap. I am not suggesting that Bungie is overly transparent and never makes mistakes. However, you’re going too far in your comment, and, to me, you sound immature and not particularly well-informed.

My main concern with these expansions and updates is price point. My fear is that each will be sold for 60 or bundled for 100. If 100 gives all of the content (battle passes and such), then I'm okay with it, but I worry they will be charging more for less overall content. I'm also one of the players who are just so fatigued with the game that I'm not sure how interested I am anyway. I have been telling myself since act 2 of the current episode that I need to get back on and play to at least complete the pass, but I've had close to zero desire to actually do so.

So, I’ve been doing a bit of background research and I can actually answer a few of these questions. (Gonna edit this as I watch the Video) 2:10 You actually were the one who confirmed this back at the start of August. Both Apollo and Behemoth will have a new Destination and Raid. For Dungeons, my prediction is if they’re going back to the shadokeep design (like you said) then dungeons will be part of the DLC. I can see them removing dungeon keys to clean up the monetization, but also as a way to increase expansion price. Apollo may be a $20 DLC, add the dungeon now it’s $30. 4:18 They didn’t mention raid lairs in the post, but that seems unlikely since they discontinued raid lairs for dungeons. A lot of people don’t know this, but Dungeons are pretty much identical to how raid lairs used to be, from length, loot and encounter design. Only difference is one is for 3 players the other is for 6. 4:57 I kind of answered this above, but at minimum each DLC will probably be $30. ($20 DLC with a $10 Dungeon). I don’t know what they’re doing for the deluxe edition since seasons are free, but the 4 battlepasses are still paid. They honestly may just sell these DLCs like they did with CoO and Warmind, where you just buy the $30 DLC and that’s it. 6:50 This is actually a leak from the day or day after the layoffs, but this new model is staying until Bungie is financially stable. Another thing to add from that leak. - New Model is a success, but Marathon is a flop (We permanently keep the Frontiers model) - New Model and Marathon are a success (We get big DLCs again) - New Model flops but Marthon succeeds (Destiny gets less support) - Both flop (probably expect the worse) This comes from the leak server, but this post was part of some of the frontiers leaks that came true. 7:06 Story is only part of the expansions now, the 4 updates that happen every 3 months are pretty much going to be like Into The Light/Forsaken seasons where it’s gameplay focused. But, from what I heard, there is one opening mission that just explains why you’re doing this content. 8:18 Yes it does mean new patrol zones. Another thing to add, D2 Mars is the third smallest patrol zone in the franchise (right behind Titan and Mercury). So we’ll probably get 2 small destinations a year instead of a medium size one like The Throne World or Neomuna. 10:23 The only content I believe that is confirmed is the Harbinger exotic mission. Back at the start of 2023 they said Hawkmoon and DMT would be added to crafted, we got DMT and the return of presage. Harbinger is also the only “Traditional,” exotic mission in the DCV, so it’s probably a higher priority than other content. 11:37 I noticed this with the start of TFS, but it seems Bungie is putting way more resources into exotic mission content than previous years. For example - Beyond Light had 2 (Harbinger and Presage) - Witch Queen had 2 (Vox Obscura and Seraph Shield) - Lightfall had 2 (Avalon and Starcrossed) technically 3 if you include Wetstone, but it’s not a traditional mission - The Final Shape will have 4 (Dual Destiny, Encore, and one for both episode 2 & 3, this is confirmed via the episode promotion they made) I can see the exotic missions for Frontiers being free content releases that just randomly release like Whisper and Zero Hour. 12:05 It’ll probably be the same pass as before, the exotic is instantly unlocked for paid or tier 35/45 for free. Legendary weapons will most likely just be some static rolls. I do want to note legendary weapon ornaments. This is something Bungie actually discontinued with Beyond because of sunsetting, so getting legendary weapon ornaments back in the battlepass makes me happy. 13:28 I think the tier system was confirmed for Echoes loot and onwards only. 14:40 I got nothing here. My prediction though, is probably just more powercreep. I can see them letting us get 6 x100 stats with Tier 5 armor.

This honestly makes me wonder: If the mobile game is indeed real, what exactly is its place in it all? Will it help fund both games or not? So much discussion around content quantity, I'm more focused on replayability and mileage. WQ, LF, TFS Campaigns were a huge amount of content for players, and consumed huge dev resources (per Bungie). But how often do I replay them? Almost never. It's not Bungie's fault that I fell in love with roguelikes and procedural-dungeon ARPG games. But it's still making really it hard for me to enjoy handcrafted, hard scripted D2 activities. Living challenge and actual exploration is what hooked me on Destiny-adjacent [3rd person sci-fi looter game]. I think it could do wonders for this game
@sauceinmyface93022 ай бұрын
I have to agree so much. Part of Destiny's eternal issue is content churn. We eat through content so fast, that they have to try to make a bunch of filler. Cutscenes of basic character animation and dialogue, flying back and forth to talk to NPCs, repeat a mission each week with maybe some dialogue changes. Part of this design philosophy is based on MMO Design. In a game like FF14, once you have all the loot from a raid, you don't really have a reason to go back, except for helping others, which I'd argue is tied more to the social elements of the game. And so, the game keeps adding new content, while old content kind of fades away. Just like Destiny. This is why I'm kind of sad they never had a gamemode they just kept updating. Like, could you imagine if Dares of eternity or onslaught actually got seasonal updates. New enemies, new factions, new bosses, new arenas, new loot? Just an absolute roulette wheel of variations of what can pop up.

I feel like Bungie has just overreached and really needs to trim down things that are similar in the game and focus those efforts. The "Exotic Missions" are basically dungeons without an Armor set, I enjoy them on the same level, and I don't think that's a bad thing. When they said "They built the biggest Exotic mission evar!" I just asked... "so why isn't it a full dungeon?." Focusing on Solo, Fire team, Raid Team, "Brigade" (12 person activities) is a great way to divy up the content and I think can really help to streamline the matchmaking and rewards. That being said: Battlegrounds are Strikes, they need to stop kidding themselves on the name distinction unless there's some Legal reason they can't call them Strikes. I would love to see them make a playlist that includes past Seasonal activities, sprinkle a little bit of text/voice that makes them feel repeatable, and throw it in a playlist that cycles 1 minute between the end of missions.

The thing that does not make sense to me is their commitment to 2 expansions a year. They essentially already tried to do that (Curse of Osiris and Warmind), when they had Activision behind them, with lots more access to development resources. Now that they have much less resources, especially after the layoffs, I don’t see a world where they make high quality expansions twice a year, when they were already struggling to make one a year (pushing back expansions). I just think they’re biting off more than they can chew with their roadmap, and I anticipate that this will change as we get closer to the first expansion.
@realtuber1012 ай бұрын
It's a combination of things. First, those were trying to add more gameplay AND story AND cinematic cutscenes that built up the story AND new gear. Whereas with these, they've already confirmed it'll be more playable stuff than anything else. So there's no need to write an expansive story through and no need for indepth animations. I could MAYBE see us getting more of those onxy stone type of cutscenes but it'll only be 1 per. If you take all of this into account and remember that since then the engine has changed and at least SOME stuff it still there with more experience under their belt with developing for the game.
@Votrae2 ай бұрын
For argument's sake I gotta disagree about the reduced resources you mentioned. Bungie was in a binding contract with ATVI, and that expanded their toolbox, yes. But Bungie IS Sony now, and with that, Sony owns the Destiny IP entirely. Sony has vast dev resources, and obviously they aren't beholden to a Destiny = Bungie whatsoever. Maybe not in Bellevue, but Sony could 100% be building Destiny 3 in a different studio of theirs. COD does this every year, hell even Fallout did it.
@FlashesSoccer0112 ай бұрын
@Votrae your comment is just nonsense. Part of the Bungie acquisition by Sony was the understanding that Sony wouldn't interfere with destiny 2. This game is going to fail no matter what happens. And COD is one of the worst gaming franchises over the past half decade or so. They just completely ripped people off with their last "new game" and should have been sued for it. Referencing them does nothing to reassure anyone that Destiny has any sort of a future.

Destiny is literally one of the best games ever made, but bungie haven't solved the problem of meaningful reasons to play the game. Once we get the loot we want (armor and weapons) what else is there for us to play for? They took strike specific loot/cosmetics and locked them behind a paywall. They took the joy out of getting exotic items, they took the joy out of cosmetics, and they took the joy out of the gameplay. If bungie would stop worrying about content to play and shift their focus to meaningful rewards, I think they'd get a good number of players back. Bring back shiny weapons and give us a new rarity of weapons and armor. Rework armor, please God. I've had the same armornon for 3, almost 4 years. All other armor is instant dismantle. Give us some kind of endgame system like paragon boards from Diablo 4. Or even the champion system like ESO. Give us a reason to play again. Add a weapon attachment system from division 2. The game is fun, but when you are at the end of the game you don't have anything to grind for even though you have so much content to play.
@sauceinmyface93022 ай бұрын
I think they have a very hard challenge of balancing meaningful grind and QOL. Remember how we used to need to farm kills for our crafted and red border guns to make progress? Or how the transmog system was way more complicated before? Technically used to be reasons to play, even if it was just farming kills. But it was annoying as hell, so they fixed it. Same goes for rewards in general. A lot of stuff drops vendor specific engrams now, rather than direct loot. So instead of checking a roll before you dismantle it into oblivion, you throw it onto the stack of 99 engrams you'll never focus. Technically QOL, but lessens the loot chase. I agree that there needs to be more layers of RNG to armor and weapons. We have too much control over them with weapon crafting and high stat focusing. And at this point, crafted weapons are so powerful that the only thing to powercreep them is more crafted weapons. But I do have to say, the content we have right now kind of sucks. There is limited replay value for most of it, and there is a lot of churn. Stuff that is made is not incrementally improved, instead being replaced by new stuff. Dares of Eternity, Onslaught, Pantheon, Menagerie, Forges, none of it really got updated with the times. Even the Nightfalls playlist doesn't get updated as often as they should. My hope is that the loot is improved with more incremental variations, with more rare cosmetics to chase, and a focus on activities we have that can be updated instead of replaced. But Bungie has been unable to do that over the last 5+ years of seasonal updates, with more staff and more money. So... I don't know.
@mr.gameandteach71972 ай бұрын
@sauceinmyface9302 I totally agree. They listened to the community about the annoying aspects of the game without asking what would happen to the loot chase and rewards if they do what they do. Destiny has turned into a currency simulator more than a looter shooter. Overall, Destiny 2 needs a face lift, and this "frontiers" is the perfect time to do it. Give us layers to armor and weapons. Create new alien armor and weapons. Make the players sunset our old gear. Sunsetting has been part of gaming since the beginning of time. It was always up to the players to do it, though. The devs would create more exciting loot to chase, and we would naturally leave our old stuff behind without feeling like we wasted our time. I think a cool idea that bungie could implement would be an infusion system, but instead of just infusing for a number, we could fuse gear together to create new weapons and armors with new effects. Take attributes and such from one weapon and give it to another one. Other MMOs do something like this, and it would really step the game up and keep the loot chase alive. No loot would feel useless. To increase weapon levels and such, we go back to the old days of leveling them and even leveling the actual perks. I feel the content in the game they have currently is good. They absolutely could bring back some sunset stuff and put a fresh coat of paint on them. Lastly. I think procedural generation is in bungies' future for Destiny. Running the same areas doing the same things is tiresome. Procedural generation is the next evolution in destiny's future. Bungie has a great product and needs to refocus on the player engagement and reward factors. Right now, we have a checklist currency simulator. We need an engaging game with meaningful rewards dropped from activities we do. The tougher the activities, the better the stuff. Not stuff dropped in engrams.

Imagine crafted armor!!
@mr.gameandteach71972 ай бұрын
@sircosta6200 you missed the entire point. Relying on crafted gear solely kills games. There has to be a bit of RNG in games, or else the chase evaporates like it currently has. They did a great job with Taken King, Forsaken’s campaign was good (it’s the post-campaign content which made that expansion so great IMO), Witch Queen had decent storytelling but the campaign itself is wildly overrated, and Final Shape had a very good campaign, but again not as good as the hype around it suggests (all IMO). All the other campaigns have been bad or worse. Considering how much of the studio’s manpower and resources have gone into those campaigns over the years, one could easily argue that all that dev power could have been better spent on other content.

Bungie still have two more episodes to develop so not counting on the future being so bright as Bungie is trying to convey with the future of Destiny. I can't imagine the "major expansions" being any larger than Episodes now considering the other things they want to proptoype like roguelike elements and the like. In any event, they will have a hard time bringing in new players and retaining the old. Going into the Final Shape, half the core playerbase was decimated already and from the sounds of it, they're only going to continue to make Destiny a harder game which means casuals will just throw their hands up and move on.

Here is my quick armor rework. All sets have an intrinsic trait that has a percentage increase based on the number of the set you have equipped. Maybe have the full set be a big enough increase that you might consider not using an exotic. You may choose a hybrid of sets for stat boosts etc Anyway, stand alone SRL game please.

I say a whole leviathan raid and make it a whole open space(like 6 man patrol team) add thr raid lairs as secret bosses to fight if we do certain hidden secrets along the leviathan and we fight Calus Bot at the end or maybe a whole new boss fight for why we have the leviathan back.

Bungie needs to show more action then words espically since what happened post final shape. With too many questions isnt enough to win players back. They also said sudject to change. Main because of lack of resourses. I just want to see more. If I am going come back after the last episode. Again thank you. I always enjoy hearing your content.

I can see a world where they shift monetization focus to cosmetics, where we will see most if not all of the good=looking cosmetic items in Destiny put in the shop with more gameplay content being made free/cheaper to drive a higher player count

Why are people accepting reprised gear and re used assets?! People are paying for content they've already been charged for months and years ago, if I pay for an expansion I expect all new gear and assets, it's supposed to be an expansion of the existing game not the same game with different skins and shaders!

I agree these questions need to be asked and people are so fearful of bad news they have their ears plugged and are ‘la la la I’m not listening’ And I think you’re right I would bet it’ll still be $100 for way less content, probably giving us 1 raid and 1 dungeon the whole year. It’s good that they gave us the info that they did, but it’s really vague and doesn’t instill a lot of confidence in me about the next year like when they showed us named expansions leading up to Final Shape. That being said, they did say they wanted to bring back a sense of mystery and exploration and in that case they can’t be detailed. I like that they want to do that and I hope that they can pull it off but I still don’t have a lot of confidence in the future of the game at the moment.

Given a choice between WOTM returning or any of the D2Y1 raids coming back, I'm gonna want Wrath to take priority. Idc if it doesn't fit lore-wise or why there's been no mention of SIVA existing up until this point. Just give me Wrath back. Sigh, idk. This all is a giant mess that Bungie leadership has made, and anything that the dev team says will be HEAVILY scrutinized. For better or for worse. I don't know if there is anything that they could realistically do to win back the player base that planned to leave after TFS was over & done with. All the articles they dropped very much seems like more of the same vague, empty promises we've been through before. People are tired of it. I get it, everything they announce is subject to change, but how many times can they regurgitate the same talking points over the past 10 years before we stop rolling our eyes until we see actual proof? I hope whatever they have planned is genuinely awesome. But anything short of genuinely awesome will just be another L Bungie takes.

A reprised raid definitely doesnt take as much effort as a new one, you literally know what it looks like and are copying it, i mean even it they cant port which I doubt as the Out of Bounds on Kings Fall were identical to D1's, Faplen Saber having Collision issues and weird lookiny enemy darkness doors I think it would be easier maybe not much but definitely a bit easier

If your critique then in any way it's harassment. Since 2021 Bungie has made it very clear they are making a game(s) THEY want with little regard to the community. They just want our money to make stuff that they want to make. Notice none of those new projects were tailored for the D2 community all those projects were to create new communities.
@LegendOfFarore2 ай бұрын
from what i understood the only story is coming from expansions. the seasons have no story at all and are literally just an activity to do and that's it. with no time gating that means we have like 2 weeks of content to play each expansion until we have everything done and just nothing to do after that like we did is coo and wm. coo was finished in 3 hours then there was literally not a single thing to do until wm came out6 months later. bungie CANNOT afford for the game to be that dry again if player engagement is the biggest problem so my bet is on the positive side it's looking like this new model may get 8 to 12 weeks gameplay total for the year. maybe a 3 to 4 weeks per expansion then maybe a week or 2 for the mid-season update. on the bad end it would be just a week to finish the expansion and seasonal mission then no reason to play at all again till the mid-season update which will probably be only another week and that's it. people hate time gating but without it there's nothing to do after the first couple weeks. i didn't mind time gating at all. gives you a reason to log on every week.

Destiny's path forward is nothing good for us gamers. Less content, more paid stuff, no story, lack of raids. (Reprised raids dont count. As far as im concerned they should all be re released alongside new stuff.)

Its over, guys. Nothing about frontiers even looks remotely promising (most of it looks pretty bad actually), and id be surprised if the game even makes it that far. Everything since episode 1 started has been a massive failure. All of the balance and sandbox chsnges have been shit, the episode activities are shit, the episode story is even worse than shit, and the new exotic mission is bad. Finsl Shape was awesome, but it was so clearly the end. This game has no future.
