The fact that there are several more statues within The Pale Heart than seen is very telling. It could well mean that as the Witness was enacting The Final Shape and corrupting The Traveler...alot of minds in it's collective were having second thoughts. Thus they were removed until The Final Shape was completed by those who still remained true believers. This might also explain why The Witness was so weak at the end of the campaign, and why the statues previously unable to commune now could. This could also explain why The Witness is so scared, because the number of the dissenters within are growing and growing. Meaning it's losing it's godhood.

It’s seriously compelling stuff. I’ve always been very intrigued and behind the ideas of the witness. But this elevated it to a force of a villain.

After the development it got in this expansion, I think the witness is one of the coolest concepts for a character ever. The idea of a race of people merging themselves was already cool enough but to have dissenters that don’t exactly agree with the collective makes so much sense, and the design to match with all the faces, the voices, and hands of all the people is awesome. I was worried before release that the witness would be too flat for me to care about it as a character but now I love it. Also that thumbnail art is SICK.

Zavala kinda predicted how to defeat the Witness, I remember one of the entries of the Season of the Deep lorebooks, after Ahsa revealed the origins of the Witness. Zavala and Ikora were discussing about its true nature, and Zavala questioned if all the beings that merged to become the Witness did it because they really wanted and not because they were forced to, and if the Vanguard itself wasn't the same.

Spoilers: At the end of Salvation’s Edge, when the witness dies, and that final voice from it says “we… I, I don’t understand.” What if that voice was of the very precursor who conceived of the idea of merging together and thus was a driving force for the Witness

i see the statues as conduits for the Witness, which includes the Dissenters stuck within him. Outside of the Pale heart they had no way to speak to us. The witness uses the statues as a conduit to speak to people, even if those statues represent the dissenters, they have no power to fight back, until now.

When redoing the campaign in legendary difficulty i noticed something interesting. (SPOILER ALERT!!!) When we find Crow in that cave, he talks about hearing some whispers, whispers coming from the veiled statue. They were trying to warn/help us at first the opportunity. Funny how you only figure this "foreshadowing" when playing the campaign again..

I predict the guardians need to use the sword for the raid or a sword where they have to destroy the statues with it in order to bring down his shield where he becomes vulnerable

All the elements of the campaign will be in the raid. They do it every time to prepare people - So the balls which protect you from darkness, the shield, the sword, it'll all be in there. Probably Mara flipping reality to see what the taken see etc.

I wonder if we will ever get a physical image of the Winnower (or the Travelers opposite)? The Gardner (the light) takes physical form in our universe as the Traveler. People always thought the veiled statues was the winnower, but we know now it’s always been a representation of the Witness’s species. Cloaked, no individual identities but all the same collective. It would be awesome if we get to see an actual light filled humanoid form the traveler reveals itself as apart from the sphere. Hope the same eventually happens with the darkness/winnower. 🤞

I feel like this expansion so far is okay; it's not done yet so ofc you cant completely judge but we havent learned much of anything we didn't already know. It is cool to see the veiled dissenting members but I was really hoping we would learn more about the traveler after all this time. So much of the campaign was finding the vanguard but I feel like we are literally inside the traveler, we should finally know clearly what the traveler is, where it came from whatever, and the same goes for the darkness and the veil too. Seeing Zavala be angry against the traveler was so cool, they should've really gone further with that but it was over before it even really began. How cool would it have been to fight zavala as he took the witnesses side or was possessed but in the end of the campaign he betrays the witness and gives us the opportunity to strike or something like that ???? I feel they are still holding back narratively (maybe because for so many people the final shape will be their last expansion, and they dont want to completely explain the universe and lose this interesting mysterious destiny air?) AND for being nostalgic ??? i like the vanguard and its great that cayde is back and all that but we can be nostalgic years from right now in the last chapter of this story. Now is the time for like wild storytelling and really pushing their pen. Anyways chile

it makes sense for the traveler to not give us answer imo. The whole existence of the witness came from the fact that the traveler gave life but no meaning, no answers. It just sat there never communicating or giving guidance

Ok so ive done digging of my own,and id like to add to evaze theorys and make my own in a fashion. I do not believe that the dissenters were helping us,at least not at first. My take is that due to the pale heart,the witness cut out a great many dissenters,in attempt for the greater hivemind to focus its corruption on the traveler more clearly. Yet despite it the precursors all made up the witness,and within the darkness manifest each as statues,when one statue is destroyed or harmed in some form,the witness feels it,and if enough are unmade,so will the witness. So in short i do think maybe its possible we had help from 1 dissenter perhaps,its because of the pale heart of the traveler that now the witness is vulnerable and ways into the dark are possible,and perhaps with salvations edge we perhaps lay the souls of the precursors to rest,destroying the witness in the process? Idk.

to me it doesn't make sense that the statues are not all somewhere in the same place, protected inside a fortified pyramid ship or something. If they are part of the Witness why would he just let them scattered across Sol and other systems for all to see, potentialy being destroyed and hurting him ?

What if a person of great magic but limited fighting potential planted the seed of becoming the unified witness. Like a parasite that told an individual what to do to get others to join. Together the “Parasite” joins and is the main Voice/Drive

I think it’s something along these lines too. Maybe the Witness has never truly been a united being, but one individual tricking and/or dominating the rest. The first knife. This is out there but maybe that controlling individual isn’t even the a precursor. What if the ritual with the veil allowed the winnower (if it exists) to possess the newly created witness.

I think probably most of the faction that wanted to make the Witness to begin with should be held responsible, but it has existed for millennia, so it's easy to imagine the less zealous ones changing their minds and wanting out.

Wasn't there this old concept art from Bungie with an alien race leaked as the Veil? They looked similar to the veiled race that merged to the Witness. And on top they used the Veil as the source of darkness... So this species from that concept art eventually found its way into the game.

Personally, I think the Witness and its many voices are and were afraid of their own mortality and afraid of being forgotten. The final shape is just their means to put the universe on hold.

I think the Witness kidnapped them somehow and they are reaching out to us now since we are within the Traveler and for us to fully free them we will with Prismatic which is light and dark to destroy him. All he is pure darkness and we are both but are able to control both as the Witness is still trying to fully control it.

Thinking of it now all the statues had such weird spots but I'd say the statues that were up high on pedestals almost like in the Europa pyramid and the moon were for the witness as a way of the witness being able to control the ship through the statue cause they all seem to talk through each other then other statues like the one in garden of salvation and the pale heart and the one in the red room in root of nightmares and in odd places could be the ones that got put in time out then all the other places could just be to be made example of or to keep an eye out or the witness is an artist who likes statues

I think the witness as a full body is only there to make us sumbit by force, but i feel a lot of dissanters have their own tactics to tempt us to the darkness. It like when they merged, a lot of them had the idea of doing the final shape but some by different means. Maybe some take different tactics to draw us into the darkness. Some with power, some with riches, some with the dreams of being a god. But after that statue sound like it got upset and told you embrace the darkness little light, i stopped trusting any of them.

I have a theory(spoiler warning), remember when the witness enrages and suddenly his voice becomes clearer yet enraged, what if that is the leader of those souls and as soon as many begin to doubt, we may see who the "real villain" of the destiny franchise truly looks like

do we know 100% that the statues are the forced to turn disenters? i interperated it as thats just the end result of the ritual he uses to become 1. like they all are statues but the statues likely hold their *fears and pain they cast away.* so their mortal bodies and so on are stuck inside the statue. and by destroying them it releases the emotions they locked away during the ritual making him vulnerable again. even the ones that believed and wanted to be part of him became statues. unless they became like rhulk. at least thats how i understood it at least.
