My friends and I discussed this at length. We might have some of the most powerful warriors in the galaxy capable of slaying gods. But you can't hold territory with a relative few super soldiers. Compared to the numbers of the hive, vex and fallen (not including house of light) there are too few guardians and humans left to both populate another major city and be capable of maintaining requirements such as food power and security

It would make sense that we have not ventured out of the last city, humanity in city is all thats left as far as we know (discounting Efrideet's colony as we don't no if they are alive anymore) but spreading humanity out would take resources and time and then guardians would have to split to protect the new earth colony. However if we were able to gain ground in the cosmodrome and make an outpost there, we would be protecting the earths greatest source of new Guardians and once they are revived they could be tasked with defending and expanding the outpost. Claiming some of the cosmodrome would be one of the better things we could do in terms of expanding humanity and not spreading resources too thin, even though the cosmodrome is so far from the city, we could have help from house light in recruiting new eliksni from there increasing the benefits of making the outpost there. Obviously what I have just said is my take on humanity's expansion in D2 and that is left up to the writers but I do think it seems plausible.

The thing about a total civilization collapse is, you don't "reclaim" it. Whatever generation drops the ball, the next generation starts over at square one. There are human settlements out there on earth - Shin Malphur grew up in one - but they're functioning at the level of medieval peasants or isolated jungle tribes. Outside the City it's basically the year 1200: Scattered villages of largely illiterate farmers and hunter/gatherers not doing much else but scavving and surviving. Inter-village travel is a thing, but in most places it's rare enough that an entire village will line up to greet the new comer. It could be argued that inhabitants of The City are not a true civilization, but primitive people exploiting the *remains* of a true civilization. They can *use* golden age tech, but they don't seem to really replace it or invent more that isn't completely dependent on the old tech. They don't use its power to take ground and establish independent colonies functioning at the level the City does. They just huddle under the Traveler, because they're completely dependent on it. They use it's technology, but they don't really understand it, or master it. I also have a theory that The Traveler is almost kind of addictive or mesmerizing... Both human and Eliksni societies were completely fine with making it their entire civilization completely dependent on it: An alien piece of technology we have no idea who made it, where it came from, or how to control it. That's crazy.

@killtheheretics2915 2 жыл бұрын
As other people have already said they probably don't set up new colonies because that would mean putting resources into it, guardians to protect it from hostile humans, rouge guardians, fallen, and cabal. What I'm saying is that the last city doesn't have enough resources to build another colony/city. We might've been able to with siva but unless Rasputin wakes up we cant do anything
@_NutcasE_
@_NutcasE_ 2 жыл бұрын
They are not using old tech because they cant remake it sparrows, ships all of this is built with expertize. Like fallen however reusing old fubctional tech is more resource efficient. Just that humanity clearly restores and rebuilds much more effectively than Eliksni since our tech is straightforward compared to elinsni tech that utilizes splicing and splicers are on short supply. Meanwhile humanity restores their tech and have multiple minds smart enough to maintain the knowledge. Not to mention that theyvhave also started reverseengineering alien tech. From fallen cabal and even vex. The tech and intelligence isnt the issue. Civil unrest, insufficient resources and inability to properly protect the civilians forces them to remain packed up for easier protection. Which in return can backfire like in red war or feel like a prison for some lile hawthorne.season of the splicer the vanguard learned that just by saying "trust me bro" you aint helping the civil unrest. I've always considered this eventuality as well: why DON'T we venture out to make more cities and whatnot? The answer might be down to the fact that A) there's still a considerable amount of Hostile/Untrustworthy humans roaming around in the wilderness so blindly setting up another megabits complex like the Last City might not work out if rogue humans enter the fray. B) we may not even have the resources available to build and sustain more civilisation that isn't the Last City. C) We have many irradiated areas and so our passion to branch out will highly depend on where we set up shop ad frankly, *there's not a lot of places to call home so quickly.*

You also have to recognize that there's not as many Guardians as there was during the city's construction and the battle of Six Fronts. There's not enough Guardians to hold territory anymore which is why Crucible maps are abandoned, Strikes are comprised of a fireteam or two to bum rush the enemy and take out the leader leaving most of it's forces intact (which is why there's STILL an untold amount of Fallen and Hive) and even if there were more Guardians, most have become absolutely selfish and disregard the Vanguard leadership, the city, and its citizens. The city and citizens are safe because most Guardians have all their stuff in the tower, not because they're cared for. HELL. there used to be EIGHT TOWERS but there's no point in rrepairing them.

@@unoreversecard1761 South America comes from a number of sources. I think the early ones were based on the stars you could see at night in the City, but there are more indications now. Holliday's family was in Texas and was able to walk south to the Last City, so it's either in the Americas or there's a land bridge that we can't see on the Earth model Bungie uses. There was a reference to traveling across the pond when revisiting the Cosmodrome for the Thunderlord quest a few years back, which is a colloquialism for crossing the Atlantic, which also supports it being in the Americas. South America specifically comes from the visible geography around the City not really matching up with anything in North America. It is rather inconsistent though, given a lot of D1 stuff pointing to it being close to the Cosmodrome. Could be a retcon or Bungie might just not have ever concretely decided where it is.

I could see Bungie exploring this aspect of Destiny 2 after the Final Shape. I speculate, after defeating the Voice behind the darkness, and surviving a second collapse, the conflict between light and dark may finally end. As cool as some of the fantastic destinations that Bungie makes are, I would love to see more earth destinations. I remember being so excited about the Mumbai Push when D1 was being released, and imagining exploring this abandoned, tropical city. Seeing real-world relics ruined and abandoned is far more interesting to me than exploring fantasy environments (though I do love some of the exotic environments that we see, like in the Prophecy dungeon). It would also be cool to have a storyline where we find another encampment of humans somewhere hidden away on Earth.

The storyline I’ve always wanted Destiny to follow was first we reclaim the City (red war) then we reclaim Earth then we push back against the darkness and reclaim the solar system and eventually travel to the home worlds of our enemies and wipe them out for good. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the way they’re going but it would have been cool to venture outside the solar system and be on the offensive for once instead of just defending the city.

I have always loved the idea of branching out into the rest of Earth, though, not to reclaim but to discover what life was like before the collapse, what the golden age was like and how it came about. I'm sure there are reasons in the lore, but after the light and dark saga finishes, i'd love to see a story that focuses on the story of humanity and its demise - Think Horizon: Zero Dawn in terms of story, with Ana Bray who has discovered her past to help guardians see their own - it could work so well.

Cities, towns and villages take resources... a LOT of resources. You want a real example of how that works out, check out Frostpunk's On The Edge dlc. It goes over how New London made a small mining outpost on a mountain to get metal and coal, and during that time of sending resources back in a scheduled manner, it only resulted in the colony breaking off and becoming their own entity, New London on the verge of break down and (depending on what the player does) either dies and the colony becomes New London, or it takes four separate colonies to save New London in a diplomatic fashion based off of favors done between each other. Even in an apocalyptic setting that Frostpunk was under, it goes to show that making any outside inhabitance is a massive ordeal and pressure.

We are on the edge of a darke age and I think bungie is pushing us into another golden age. Just think of a circle going in a loop right. But you are 4/5ths of the way to the end but another loop has already started. Now lay those on top of each other and boom. A time loop that has no end. Cosmodrome, what we see of Venus, and Mars have changed. And yet some of those have went back to their respective d1 state

Why not build concentric ring-walls and expand outward under protection. With each wall lined with defenses, and the spaces between fortified and supplied for living, it would make more sense than one big ring with a single wall filled with wide-open habitable space that would take a single bomb to destroy or crack in the wall to invade.

I think it’d be pretty interesting if bungee added a character that managed to survive the collapse and has been alive all this time. Idk how they’d be added to the game or how they’d fit in the story, but I think it’d be cool

Aren't there like a lot of people that survived the collapse? Cayde and Saint, I remember specifically talking about little dark monsters? Ada1's whole story is that the Armory didn't stop the collapse, but she still survived. Has some sort of quote about it smelling like dirt and screeching? Rasputin survived the collapse too, kinda. He just got scared and hid because his Singularity Unfire lasers didn't do anything.

I'd like to know what day to day life is like in the city. Living with actual monsters capable of invading and decimating populations. I have so many questions, I mean, do civilians kill themselves in hopes of being reborn a guardian? Do they hunt for ghosts and try to prove their worth? Do ghosts hunt live humans to make them into guardians like how Shins ghost did with Jaren? How does the population view the light, has it replaced the old religions or have new ones been born? I would love some kind of live action film, based around the life of a civilian living in the Destiny universe.

From a design standpoint, having to create a post apocalyptic location is easy means research into that area, you are also limited to what city will look like and such. More or less we'd get another zone like EDZ where it's just remnants of our civilization.

I would love to get more exploration on earth and mars. Finding old cities, labs, strongholds, refugees searching the Last City, old technology. I think is one of the things i love of Destiny, the explorarion and rediscovery potential. I would love seeing the statue of liberty in a beach like at the end of "the planet of apes" it would be a good reference. Also reclaiming earth is kinda unnecesary, im sure the city is always searching for refugees to join in the city, and at this point we know where are the best places to search information and technology.

I really wish there would be a short story finding a bunker somewhere, and as we investigate it, hive or some cabal are attacking the bunker, and we intervene, and help to defend the bunker and get shot buy one of the bunker defenders after the battle and that would be the first time EVER they would have seen somebody revive by a ghost and that would be a mystery in of as itself, and that would take us in a story mission where we figure out who they were, and they get to know us too

I would like to see Bungie expand locations to much larger maps. There are areas that already exist, but are cut off from exploration like Hangman's Pass in the EDZ. Push back the kill zones and let us explore. How about adding back map locations like the Rocket Yard, Refinery and the Grottos in the Cosmodrome. These locations already exist, just put them back.

The next saga after the light and dark story i think could be the story of how we reclaimed earth and slowly took back these places, bcuz with our greatest enemy out of the picture the most logical next step would to re build and retake our planet, so places like the Manhattan nuclear zone and old Chicago are likely places we will explore after all the known DLC's
