This is a dumb point. Not everyone is at the same level of maturity. She may be mature enough to realize that others her age are immature. When we talk about age restrictions we are talking about something that goes across the board to protect the most people. There may be some geniuses at the age of 13 that have the maturity of an adult but we still are going to restrict them for the good of the masses.

@@FatherManusYou didn’t actually disagree with him. His point is that she should be disqualified by virtue of falling into a category. You’re saying she is an outlier inside a category while also claiming the category exists for the sake of conveniently protecting the majority, even the outliers

@@Ahrbok You almost got it. Discussing an age restriction is not the same as being subject to an age restriction. So this person saying she would be disqualified from the discussion is erroneous. Anyone can contribute to a discussion about any topic. If said age restriction was made into law then she would be subject to it even if she's an outlier. Discussion ≠ Actual law.

It's because they know. Let's not get started on saying kids get their genitals "mutilated" do notice the emotionally charged language. That's so you don't think about it. No hospital in the world does that operation under 18 and it's for a very obvious reason that isn't that it is unethical. Bro if I didn't have a moral compass I'd love to be a republican commentator because God damn is it easy. You just repeat lies that are fed to you by think tanks and it does all the work for you. You realize that sex Ed for younger kids is a single day, very basic, and is done not to spread an agenda, but because it give the child the knowledge and most importantly the language to say if they've been sexually abused. If someone doesn't have the language how can they ever tell you what their uncle/babysitter/teacher/priest is doing to them? They can't they won't and now they might grow up to repeat the cycle. Obviously, if a child needs actual medical care because of an ailment or injury, then that should be done. Literally no one disagrees with that. The only reason this concession even has to be made is because of idiots like you who insist on comparing necessary medical procedures to elective cosmetic surgeries. A person who has bottom surgery is no longer able to use their mutilated genitals. That function is gone. Whether that has even happened to someone under the age of 18, I don't know. I agree with some of the sentiment in this comment section that Destiny’s arguments weren’t the most compelling, but the panel did not even come close to address the basic point he was making. They kept framing it as a minor consenting to a treatment when Destiny was pointing out that it’s a parent consenting to a treatment - who is not a minor. No one is opposed to children getting medical treatment IN GENERAL, of which kids mostly never consent to; their parents do on their behalf. The argument that kids are too young to consent to transition immediately falls flat for this reason, and there are much better arguments to be made.
@User28870

How were they not compelling. Destiny correctly pointed out that the regret rate for trans surgeries is less than 1%, so the moral panic surrounding the topic is not justified. The other guests completely ignored that point.

@@User28870 so i actually took the trouble to find the study hes referring to, and its actually an overview of 27 relevant studies. the issue I found with it is that the most recent studies were in 2018 (only 3 of them while the rest progressively got older all the way to 1988) which is before the skyrocketing numbers of trans kids/teens/adults we're seeing now. also, the ages started at 13 which does not include children in which many of the conservatives are concerned with. another issue i found was that 36 studies were excluded, but ill have to assume there was good reason for that. so, what im truly concerned with is that fad of being trans especially for impressionable kids and teens whos life essentially revolves around fitting in. I want to see new studies done of the many others who have recently transitioned possibly due to the social pressure, or rather, social praise thats become rampant as of late. im willing to bet that the large increase in trans people now will reflect more regret in the coming years.
@ddawg3230
@ddawg3230 Жыл бұрын
@@dartskihutch4033why would under 13 kids and random kids dyeing their hair blue and putting on a septum ring matter to the study though? Isn't the study primarily concentrating on those getting hormone treatments and surgeries? I doubt if kids under 13 are relevant for that. Most of the skyrocketing seems to be of so called 'non-binary' 'trans' people who are mainly just teen girls trying on edgy clothing and calling themselves they/them. I really doubt if there has been a comparable increase in people who actually want to physically transition.

His point was that he’s a lot more willing to trust a medical professional’s opinion about surgery than some random conservatives who have literally nothing to do with the situation. If my child was experiencing symptoms of tonsillitis I would take him to see a professional whose job it is to decide the best approach to the problem. The decision then gets made ultimately by the parent, and hopefully the decision is educated and not one based purely in political bias. So obviously there’s a level of trust that needs to be had in parents to do what’s best for the children, but that’s how society already operates in all other facets of life. We don’t have the government come in and decide how the child should be parented. It’s down to the individuals. That’s what’s so weird about conservatives on this particular issue. They seem to have this very intrusive view of how the government should step in and make decisions on behalf of the parent and child even though conservatives usually place high value on individual liberty and small government.

It's my understanding that young trans people (under 18) generally have a long while of therapy and consultation with doctors and psychiatrists before anything considerably life-altering is considered, like surgery. I don't think you can just go to the clinic and say you may be having questions about your gender and the doctor just gives you hormones right there; it takes some time for those decisions. Like anything else there are probably a handful that may have "gone through a phase" and only realise afterward that this was the case, but I would think this probably weeds out a lot of people like that. I'm not saying you think this, but I think the discussion can be dominated by people who presume it's way easier to actually get this treatment than it is. It's a process. Every trans person I know (which admittedly is few, I'm in a very rural area) had to go through a very long process with medical professionals to get to the point in transitioning they are at. Most people probably aren't being malicious though, they just don't know.

Saying someone would commit suicide if they don’t get what they want is super anti-science anti-medicine. There’s no way to prove that after the fact, the stats don’t reflect that at all, and it’s a very hypothetical thing based on someone who already has mental problems making a threat to their parents like a spoiled brat. More often it’s just the “hammer” being used to justify what will amount to one of the greatest cases of organized mass child abuse when we all look back on it from a future where common sense makes a comeback

There’s no way a person could know what it’s like to be the opposite sex enough to say that they are that… what, cuz they like dolls and pink and sucking dick they are a woman now? They just know it in their spiritual core? I though those things were socially forced onto women to keep them soft and domesticated lol. And a parent CANNOT consent on behalf of their child if we’re talking about ABUSE. Letting your child think they are in the wrong body(???) or worse, feeding into that idea and letting the therapists and doctors just fast track your child onto this terrible path is a horrible disgusting thing for a parent to do. Puberty blockers are NOT reversible, and the fact that medical staff and therapists and the media keep repeating that lie PROVES that there is something truly sinister about this whole trans movement

@StFido

It’s different when the position “children transitioning is always good” versus “children shouldn’t be allowed to transition”, the first is usually given by lefties and Destiny will push back because the medical science isn’t all there and it’s really complicated, the second destiny will push back against for the reasons in this video. From what I’ve seen his position is much like he states in this video, it should be up the the child, the parent, their doctor, and their psychologist. If every one of those parties agrees the child is dysphoric (assuming they’re all behaving up to medical and ethical standards) then some kind of gender affirming care should be given. But conservatives will say no child should ever be given any level of care and lefties will say any child that even might be trans should be given, both positions are not defendable.

I completely support the idea that ppl are better at making decisions when they’re older than when they’re younger but not getting gender affirming care is still just a much a choice that can have serious negative repercussions as choosing to have gender affirming care. Growing boobs and hips and an adams apple and masculinized skull are things that can be somewhat adjusted as an adult at best & completely irreversible depending on your resources at worse. If I had a cisgender son (XY chromosomes, penis, etc) who started growing boobs and hips and would never fully grow like a normal guy due to some weird hormone quirk or mutation unless we got medication to stop it, it would be crazy for me to say “well my son says he hates the idea of growing boobs and hips and never expecting a regular male puberty, but if we stop it there’s a chance he’ll regret it in the future so let’s play it safe and not do anything”. You have to do an evidence based risk/reward calculation instead of just assuming no treatment is risk free.

Focusing on logic rather than vibes, his opponent had just argued against allowing gender reassignment for minors on the basis that it's an irreversible surgery. Destiny argued that circumcision is also an irreversible surgery, and therefore in order for that argument to hold you would also have to disallow circumcision of minors, otherwise you need a better argument. If you're focusing on vibes he seems to be arguing in favour of gender reassignment surgery for minors, but that never actually happens in this clip so I can't really determine where he stands on it. If I were to guess at Destiny's strategy here, he seems to have avoided taking the bait on the specifics of gender affirming care in order to focus on his broader objection to political interference in healthcare.

Sweden released its long-awaited guidelines for the care of gender-dysphoric youth. These guidelines represent a major departure from the WPATH "Standards of Care," and are a vital step towards safeguarding vulnerable youth from medical harm. Sweden’s new guidelines emphasize that gender-dysphoric youth will continue to receive care. However, health care for gender dysphoria is no longer reduced to “hormones and surgeries.” The recommendations now call out a key role for psychiatric and psychosocial services. The guidelines assert that based on current evidence, the risks of hormonal interventions outweigh the possible benefits. Thus, these interventions (often referred to as "gender-affirming care") will not be available outside of research settings, except as "last-resort." Sweden is realigning with the classic “Dutch Protocol” model, where only early childhood-onset gender dysphoria cases will be considered for hormones and surgeries. Those with post-puberty onset of trans identity will not be candidates for hormones/surgeries as minors. The guidelines highlight the unexplained rapid rise in trans identification in youth, especially teenage girls. They also note the worrying rise of detransitioners & regretters, which contradicts prior estimates of "low regret." They cite Littman 2021. Individuals Treated for Gender Dysphoria with Medical and/or Surgical Transition Who Subsequently Detransitioned: A Survey of 100 Detransitioners - Archives of Sexual BehaviorThe study’s purpose was to describe a population of individuals who experienced gender dysphoria, chose to undergo medical and/or surgical transition and then detransitioned by discontinuing medicatio…link.springer.com/10.1007/s10508-021-02163-w The guidelines also note the lack of knowledge about how to treat "non-binary" youth (the predominant presentation today). They assert that access to medical interventions should be based on the presence of gender dysphoria, rather than the presense of a transgender identity. Sweden is centralizing its gender care for minors to a few centers for highly specialized care. Individual clinics and private providers will not be allowed to provide "gender-affirming" services. The guidelines express concern that little advance in quality knowledge has occurred since "gender-affirming" interventions were first recommended in Sweden in 2015, and that generally, little is known about how to best care for gender-dysphoric youth. In summary, Sweden has changed direction because of a lack of evidence to support medical interventions for gender-dysphoric minors. A new emphasis has been placed on psychiatric care and psychosocial support. Hormonal interventions for minors will be highly restricted.

*"[60-90% of the who identify as transgender will outgrow it]"* - These figures are correct and reflect those who purport to be transgender WITHOUT delineating between those that received gender affirming care (that's a subset that isnt elaborated on and if you wanted to claim the data wasnt applicable to them you'd need evidence). See the following meta-analysis: NCBI: "Gender dysphoria in adolescence: current perspectives" "the numbers for the people who begin treatment even prior to 8 years old and then desist out of that treatment is less than 1%" These figures are factually inaccurate as they do no support the claim Destiny is trying to make. What Destiny is alluding to is a single study out of Sweden pertaining to 'regret' concerning gender transition surgery: a) The study is limited to analysis of legal applications only (it ignores all purportedly transgender people who did not submit these applications). b) The study infers regret based on whether the individuals submitted a separate request to withdraw their initial application (it ignores all purportedly transgender individuals who were unsatisfied with the results but did not submit a withdrawal form).

You understand relationships are present everywhere in society right? You understand most kids actually will go to their parents with their problems, especially about feelings/relationships/sexual questions, right? And if youre a dogshit parent that isnt open to answering those questions they will seek out the answers anyway with different people/sources. Conservatives are just terrible parents.

Destiny is wrong. All those laws r actually to strengthen parents ability to decide medical treatment for their children and make sure they aren’t so easily sucked into this gender clinics. And a lot of these kids being put on this stuff is confused autistic kids. It’s one thing to allow ur son dress in skirts cuz he identifies that way, but then to allow him at 13 to cut off his penis… we don’t think that’s a tad extreme. And if he is suffering from gender dysphoria and suicidal ideation- shouldn’t we first try therapy first? Imagine a 14-15 year old girl begging her parents for a boob job cuz other girls have developed and she hasn’t and it’s making her suicidal. I think we would all agree that it’d be wrong to allow that at such a young age and that therapy should be done first. Hell- I’m a paraplegic and back in 2010 when I was trying to an electric stimulator for my spine- they first had me go thru therapy to ensure that I was mentally fit

Destiny is wrong here. He is taking the pure libertarian position that the government should not have any say in this matter, only the child + parent + doctor. But that is never the whole situation, we are highly social animals. Should children be allowed to get tattoos? Where do we draw the line? Should incest be allowed if all parties agree to it? It is only between the parent and the child right? I agree that most things should remain in the private sphere to have precedence over any government involvement, but there are points where we as a society step in and say that there should be intervention.

That is why they have mounted crusades against books and colleges and disregard the words of subject matter experts for someone like trump. 3) Of course even experts are human so they get things wrong. That does not mean an inaccurate medical diagnosis pushes you to get medical advice from reddit. Maybe you didnt parse the arguments being presented...They were saying medical interventions and treatments cant be done on minors because they dont understand the repercussions of the future and they have right that adults shouldnt decide that risk for them...That means ALL medical interventions shouldnt be done on minors because there is no possibility of consent, so that does mean diabetic interventions, kidney surgery, really any surgery is significant treatment. I feel like Destiny always pulls out this Libertarian argument about parents with Trans kids and completely ignores that schools are teaching kids about gender identity and sexuality without parents consent and are actively helping kids with their gender identities without their parents consent. You can't have it both ways. If a parent thinks transitioning their child is a good idea. Cool. That also means the government should respect a parent that doesn't want their 8 year old taught gender identity.

Sadly as we all know politicians want what's best for children at all times and are in no way just trying to get votes from their base that's largely uneducated on the specifics of scientific rigor. No way could a government banning treatments that even if I want to be charitable to the other side are debatable granting everything the other side questions is true. Using science and supposed facts have never been politicized ever in American history. Clearly only one side of the aisle cares about empirical data and the other doesn't other side is ontologically evil and only want to harm children and trans people. Humans should of never left the caves could be monsters outside.

My point of view is simple give people actual freedom if you're a real progressive. Let people who believe in the pride flag have their own classes where they send their children to and let the others choose not to. Simple as that congratulations nobody is forcing anthing on each other and we all don't have to see any more trans headlines in our news feed. 1.) The fact that you cant even type sexuality means youre incredibly immature, be an adult. 2.) Kids talk about, ask about they sexuality, their orientation, their likes, their problems, their concerns, their fears. They are literally discovering the world in front of your eyes as a parent (if you pay attention, seemingly many dont). You are pretending parents are trapping the kids and interrogating them and then doing good cop bad cop with a doctor to cut their dicks off. There are protocols in place to make best sure it isnt a phase, there is a diagnosis, there are requirements, there are years are therapy before any steps are taken for even blockers. Surgery is incredibly incredibly rare.
