Do you have any ideal how may hospitals, schools and factories 15 Billion dollars can build in Ethiopia? Ethiopian does not have that kind of money to spend on a palace for a Prime Minister. The Prime Minister confused his priorities. The palace he's in right now is plenty enough. You're talking about building a residential palace for a leader with amount that's eighty (80)x more than the country's annual GDP. That's madness and stupidity to say the least. Do you've any idea how many ppl are displaced in the country and in need of food aid? Stop lying to yourselves. This's the problem with us Africans. You’re right, it’s unfair for a 3rd world country to spend that much money on a palace! I don’t think it’s 80 x the GDP though. It’s probably around 0.1x the gdp. I guess he said the money is not funded by the country. Probably getting it from allies in exchange for something that we don’t know. Would have been great to build factories, modernize agriculture, build hospitals etc… but I think his obsession is different…beauty, cities, looks…! At least better than putting that large money overseas in a Swiss Bank like his predecessors! The project is beyond a palace though. Some of the changes that I saw in Addis over the past several months have changed the face of the city and the country. You might argue that people have been displaced but there’s no change without sacrifice!

Even his parliament does not know the source of the money let alone the ordinary citizens. How do i know they do not know? They asked him and he told his parliament he's not obligated to disclose that information, because he's not using taxpayers money. His response was nationally televised. What that means is all of the resorts he's building might possibly have owners. These resorts might not be properties of the government of Ethiopia. The fact the management is given to Chinese companies might tell us something. You think displacing houndreds of thousands the price need to be paid in the name of tourism? The only real property people have in Ethiopia is their houses. That's the one thing the majory can pass on to the next generation as a source of wealth. But this goverment is busy demolishing their homes without compensation in most cases. The lucky ones get unfair compensations. My friend the current government created more poor people due to goverment forced displacement and domestic non stop wars in the past six years than any other. There are an established 3 millions displaced ppl in Ethiopia today and 30 million in need of food aid. But the guy is busy building flashy things. Tourists do not come to Africa to see modern architectures. What's he's doing only satisfies his ego. The guy hates poor people, eventhough he grew up dirt poor. You will never catch him visiting refugee camps, disaster areas, or the displaced. But, he's the first one in line when a flashy hotel is inaugurated. There's something psychologist going on with the PM.

Note that the Emperor who built the palace and owned this cars was killed in 1974, 50 years ago. You should do a follow up to report on the Emperor and his Era, all the world leaders who have visited this palace during the Emperor's reign, including, Queen Elizabeth II, Marshal Tito of Yugoslavia, and several US presidents like Richard Nixon, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franklin Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy etc...that should give you context and significance of the era. History can be painful, but had all the bad stuff didn't happen, if Ethiopia had continued with the advancement it had 50,60, 100 years ago, Africa would have prevailed as Ethiopia was leading the way. Also in terms of the treasure and artifacts, so many have been looted, sold etc and are in European musiums London and vatican musiums have a lot of it on display. you should also look into Emperor Menelik, queen victoria etc

The Prime Minister has not been entirely clear about the sorce of the money. He indicated the goverment of France gave him some 5 million dollars. He told his parliament that he's not obligated to tell them where he got the money from since it was not taken from taxpayers. So, noone knows about his dealings and how he got the money to build and the reports he has built. The guy is shady and secretive about a lot of things.
