Destroyer, how are they so underground even after releasing so many distinctly amazing albums? Give five different people the same Destroyer song, and you'll get five completely different interpretations. That's the beauty of genuine music.

When it had come out, I had been a New Pornographers fan for a few years (Dan has written songs for them and toured with them.) I learned of Destroyer from his association, and I noticed that Destroyer seemed to hardly get any views at the time. This was uploaded in 2011, and it got around 300k views shortly after release, which seemed like a huge number in comparison. I also didn't take to Destroyer very well back then, though I didn't hate the music. That has only just changed, I've started liking them a lot more now.

A lot of indie music was like that in the 2010s. So many groups and bands and artists that didn’t get enough play, that were just such great music. Miss that era a little. I found out about Kaputt late at Coachella and was HOOKED.

@@doctrinedoomsday6953 Ratio'd. ... Seriously though, the song's a self-aware (or somewhat self-aware) lyric that's looking at what happens if you go off in pornland. Hence, "all sounds like a dream to me" and "chasing cocaine" and Mom opening the literal *blinds* to show a man dying in a desert. Songs don't all have to be rock music or country or opera or whatever, nor do they need the prettiest vocals.
