Destroyer is really underrated! What an amazing band.

'Farrar, Strauss and Giroux' makes me tear up EVERY TIME. Thank you for the catharsis, Mad Spaniard. I've been listening to his first 3 albums on heavy rotation this week, and am delighted to find a live show, with beautifully shot and edited footage to boot.

It truly is a beautiful set. The pickathon 2014 performance has this same "quiet personal time with Bejar" feeling to it, and it has a bunch of songs from the early records too (to the heart of the sun..., virgin with a memory, helena, farrar... and streets of fire). Sadly it is not a public video, so you'll need the exact link to watch it, but you easily get it if you look on the destroyer subreddit.

Vancouver's Georgia Straight Magazine listed the "best" Vancouver albums over the last 50 years and didn't list a single Destroyer album. Hard to take the magazine seriously after that. Dan Bejar is arguably Vancouver's greatest musician.
@GeorgeStevenDo6 жыл бұрын
markatsvensson The editor didn't want to besmirch his name by putting him in something more mainstream. The music is more treasured when found by chance. To find it in some weekly magazine is akin to buying a Hollywood map seeking stars.

I like that little bit in the middle of Chinatown that ended up becoming part of Solace's Bride. I remembered hearing that part when I was first listening to Poison Season and wondering why it felt familiar. Now watching this again I'm like 'ayyyyyyyyy'
@viachicago4 жыл бұрын
It fits so naturally into Chinatown that I didn’t notice that. Thanks for pointing that out.
@eduardlazarus49354 жыл бұрын
There's a live solo acoustic version of Bejar playing Chinatown on KZbin somewhere, even before Kaputt was released in 2011- it was dubbed a new song in that particular performance - and that part from Solace's Bride was already there. Cheeky.

It took me about 12 years to really get into Destroyer, but all of a sudden, I agree. I bought some Destroyer albums in 2009 - 2011, but I didn't really get into the music until just before Christmas 2021. I first heard of Dan Bejar in 2008 / 2009, and I saw him with The New Pornographers on June 13, 2010 in Columbus, Ohio. He was off stage when not singing his own songs, or playing additional guitar.

Am I correct in that this is not the full length of the concert? I couldn't tell it being cut anywhere from watching nor listening, but I assume he performed for longer than 26 minutes. "Helena" also sounds to be from that night, since it's played without a plectrum. Amazing video though, been listening to it atleast once a week for the last month, month and a half, and spectacular musician. Can't wait for "ken" to come out and to see him in Lille.

Jack Fay I also know requests are frowned upon but I wish he would release just one more album like This Night or Streethawk. I think he writes songs that give him longer breaks to drink alcohol these days.
