There's something so comforting to me in finding beauty through monstrosity in fiction. It's a topic that really speaks to me as a queer woman in a very homophobic country. What I appreciate the most about relationship like Hannigram and Villaneve in media is not presenting queerness as a source of ugliness, but rather a way to find connection in that ugliness. What these people do to each other should obviously never be tolerated in real life, but in a fictional context, it's interesting to view these tools as a way to reclaim those sneers society frowns at us. Oh, you think this is sociably unacceptable, well I'm discovering my soul in this! And as I said, I believe in the case of Hannibal & Killing Eve it works precisely because the situations are too outlandish to ever be considered sane by real life standards and the characters are never demonized by their queerness. Their love might be the most human thing about them, certainly the one element that endears them to the audience the most. Great video!

I just came over from tumblr after seeing your post. I have never seen the James Somerton video, and I have no doubt that the pos hardly did your words justice and didn't even come close to the brilliance of this video. As a science major, I absolutlely adored the halogens/alkali reaction metaphor!! And it drives the point so poignantly?! These characters have left a mark on each other, have changed each other irreversibly, and will have an everlasting bond because of it. Just brilliant. That was so good! I have seen Hannibal and I'm a huge fan, but have not watched Killing Eve yet which I now realize is a dam shame. I had heard of it vaguely but wasn't sure what it was about, and now really want to go and watch it! Thank you so much for that! I hope you have a wonderful day and take care!!

I find it appalling that shows like these didn't get another season or more episodes. Both had so much story to tell and I wish that when shows were being created it would be agreed on how many seasons they would have from the jump. An agreed amount that would let stories be completed to their designated end because too many times do dedicated fans, writers, directors, and actors have to lose out on phenomenal projects due to networks making room for horrible shows or just not seeing the beauty in what it could do.

Your interpretation of Hannibal Lecter in season 3 as willing to wait for and sacrifice himself for Will-to the point of blocking the dragon's bullet by standing right in front of the window-challenges how I personally experienced season 3 (I read almost every action Hannibal made with some amount of sarcasm). I have been searching for an analysis like this and you completely understand the complexity of their relationship and why these two shows are my favorites
@olpheist99553 жыл бұрын
This was SO GOOD, amazing analysis and first video. I agreed with everything you said and like it can irritate me so much when people reduce these relationships from the shows and judge them by the contexts of their own lives. With Hannibal in particular, I almost see it as a fairytale since the world those characters live in is constantly filled with mass murdering monsters and corruption. Hannibal and Will’s characters are fantastical themselves, an extremely intelligent and sophisticated cannibal and empath so powerful they can look at a room and basically time travel to the past and watch what happened and also completely understand the serial killer’s mind. Feel like people shouldn’t take it so much at face value since it’s unlikely they’ll find themselves dating a cannibal and one so ridiculously intelligent and sophisticated as Hannibal for that matter. I mean his name is Hannibal for gods sake. And villainelle is called villainelle.
@kazkk23215 ай бұрын
There is no such thing as destructive love. The relationship between Hannibal and will may not be what most want to get into but it is not destructive as such. Not in the way the title assumes. They are too similar, unable to empathize easily with the other but greatly need the other. It’s a tragic romantic story of the complicated nature of human existence. We should appreciate these better

Before I watch the video which is probably just going to end up insulting my sanity, I'm going to be real. I enjoy destructive romance shows because the characters are more vulnerable emotionally. Even in Hannibal with one of the characters being emotionally stunted because he is a serial killer cannibal, there's a lot of emotional expression vulnerability and it's expressed often times. In a way we're both characters are willing to talk about their insecurities and their flaws, and instead of just using that to weaponize a character or weaponize a person, there's some form of understanding on both sides that create a bond. Now, am I saying that I want to date a serial killer that might end up killing me because I threatened their security? No. Even though I am absolutely fascinated with the relationship between Will Graham and Hannibal lecter. I would never want to have that kind of relationship. But I do enjoy watching it because it's not the typical "Oh my god I love you and blah blah blah" , it's emotionally driven and we get to watch that roller coaster and it's fun. I tend to find other shows where characters are just all lovey-dovey in the stereotypical way to be so boring and disgusting.

Don't have much to contribute, I just really loved watching this and wanted to leave a comment because it was too good not to. I guess one thing I can say is that my girlfriend and I watched Hannibal together recently, and while I was very enraptured with Hannibal and Will's obsessive romance, they saw it as a lot more toxic and therefore not something to feel positively about. We talk a lot about these two different interpretations and, after watching this video together, I feel like they get my (and your!) point of view a lot more. So thanks for that!
