Thanks for the episode. We learned not to be too picky when purchasing a home. As long as it meets the general criteria, there are lots of things you can live with or simply renovate later down the road. We also had to pay over list price due to multiple offers from others.

The commute from Maidenhead to Bournemouth is about one hour and 45 minutes. Why the insistence on moving close to her family and friends when it’s going to create this monster commute for her partner. If they relocated 45 minutes or so down the road, he would only have a 45 minute commute. And it might be possible to get more for their money. Thankfully Phil focused his couple’s search closer in! Winchmore Hill and Cookham were good choices commute-wise.

If you want Berkshire, you're sitting under the flight path to Heathrow. It's a given. Suck it up. Planes pass over every two minutes. I'm surprised no one suggested Wargrave, Littlewick, or Waltham. All of them 7 minutes from the M4, 10-12 minutes to the train station on the Elizabeth line - just over an hour into Paddington.

I never understood the “kerb appeal” thing. First, how much time does one stand in front of their house, looking at it. And second…if it has a front garden and such, it’s practically unusable land because who’s going to sit outside in the front yard when you live on a fairly busy road. You can’t even use it for pets or kids cause a tall fence would ruin the kerb appeal.
@whirledpeas57176 ай бұрын
First - I'm not trying to change your opinion, only to give you my reasoning as someone who wants kerb appeal. Kerb appeal makes me happy when I come home and find my home pretty (to me) before I walk in the door. It comforts me. All of your points are valid, too, of course!
@minime73756 ай бұрын
@@whirledpeas5717 Just curious, would you give up all the other “wants” for kerb appeal? Like back garden, number of rooms, etc? Cause it seemed like that’s what that couple did. Yes. I have lived in my current house for 18 years and I really don't like what the house looks like from the street. If I win the lottery, I will have it modified. But since that's likely not going to happen I keep enjoying the inside of the house, after I made it what I wanted it to be, and the garden (and good neighbours, too).

Why is Kirstie so against home owners having their own vehicles? Must be a Brit thing. I'm the US, you need your own car to live independently. Otherwise you are extremely limited on where you can live. It has to be a crowded city with advanced public transportation. I know the UK has that in abundance because areas are so small but it also means competing for housing in a highly congested area! You can't move to the country and get away from it all getting more house for your budget.
@thehungrygoldfish6 ай бұрын
She’s not against having cars. She just doesn’t like it when someone puts a garage and driveway on their wishlist because it significantly restricts the amount of houses she can show them, especially if they have other things in their wish list like two bathrooms, big backyard, quiet street, two minutes away from shops and restaurants, move in ready done to their exact specifications, etc. The more you add to your wish list, the fewer houses they can show you.
@JenniferKokoski6 ай бұрын
@@thehungrygoldfish yes but she particularly hours nuts when someone mentions have a car. The other things she takes in stride. She's also keen on remodeling every property she sees. She wants to knock down walls everywhere. So when someone asks for two bathrooms, which is not an unreasonable ask in a house for the US. We all have at least two bathrooms. She's really keen on knocking down walls and sending the homeowners into renovationville. It's unreasonable for a realtor to do that. And expect the homeowners to ask over budget. Just show them a house with two bathrooms in a garage. How simple is that? Now if their budget is only to afford a two bedroom semi-detached then she can be straightforward about it. But she will tell people with a £500,000+ budget that they can just easily go into renovation because she won't bother to show them houses that are in their price range with the things they ask for. Honestly watching enough of these shows she annoys me more than anyone. She's great at love it and list it. That is where she shines. But I don't want her as my realtor. She doesn't listen and she's way she touchy-feely. Give me Phil any day. He at least listens and tries to reach the homeowner's expectations.

Otherwise, I think she's fairly perfect.
@litsci18776 ай бұрын
I think she's not saying it's not important, but that for the budget and the location they want, they're wildly constraining their search and should open their minds a bit to considering another way of looking after the car, being a bit flexible -- if what they want is to live together in a house.
@andreaandrea67166 ай бұрын
Kirstie showed them a house with a garage AND a car port... and He gave it up because she didn't like it. So... ? But... they "should open their minds a bit to considering another way of looking after the car" No. It wasn't about 'looking after their car.' He likes to WORK ON CARS/his car. That's his passion. You need a garage or two for that. His girlfriend needs to realize that that is really important to him. So... it's a Unicorn they're looking for.
