This a little bit harder than the spark plugs. But yeah I saw all those preppy kids paying the shops to do it and any of the other install videos out there sucked in my opinion, so I made my own. There are a couple videos of these on my channel because I was having an issue with a leak, but I got it resolved. Check out the Mustang playlist on the channel for the other videos if this one didn't contain enough info about the leak...

i thought all this time we didnt have flange gaskets between there becuse someone stripped my bolts putting my x pipe on and i had to put new bolts on so i guess when they seperated the gasket fell out. i been having a lean code for a long time and found out its bc a leak right there. crazy

@@BuckeyeBallistics so we’ve got the the driver side header attached to both the flange and the engine itself, now were having trouble lining up the flange of the exhaust and the flange of the header, any suggestions?

I think I remember running into that issue. Any tips I had regarding that should have been included in the video. Worse case scenario you could detatch the exhaust further down so it will line up...

Do you need to cut off the oem bolts off of the flange?

i got mine installed and im not sure if i did that break in procedure correctly i thought id get a bit more power but it actually feels like i lost take off power is that normal or did i cause a exhaust leak ? i have a muffler delete so being able to hear that exhaust leak would be hard

A slight leak shouldn't cause any loss of power. Also, shorties add bottom and mid range power, so you shouldn't have any bottom end loss. You might have something else going on unrelated to the header install.

what was the estimated time you spent in total on this? i just got a set of bbk shorty headers for my 2010 4.0 and just wanted a good refrence on how much time i should be looking at. i am a tech so i have experience with cars, but i mainly work on i4 never on v6s

Hey dude, I just bought some shortys secondhand. So it didn’t come with any hardware other than the headers themselves. I already got some new gaskets, but I have no idea where to get the bolts/nuts at

Anywhere that carries bolts and nuts lol. Your best bet is to go to lowes or home depot or something like that. Take the header with you so you can match up a bolt to the threads to see which thread pitch you need.

Hey just ordered these for my v6 does it matter which way the gaskets go on or did they send me two of the same gaskets?

I covered this in the video- it should be fine, I ran into the same thing. You might also want to watch the other header videos in my Mustang playlist (as I mentioned in this one) about the leak issues to make sure you don't have the same problem, allthough I think I covered some of that in this video as well briefly.

Big help your video man..... one question..... at the end did they sent you mixed gaskets (probably was the case) and that's was the main problem of you header leak on the driver side? also the double gasket you used to fixed the problem you let them like the passenger side (probably the correct sideway to let the gasket) or did you keep the same side that was used on the drivers side?

I had two leaks which I detailed in the video. The one with the gasket was because, as I said in the video, my header flange was warped which is why I double gasketed it. I bought different gaskets and they were the same on both sides, so it did not matter which way they went. Then I had the leak at the downpipe because, as I stated in the video, the factory hardware does not work with the new header.

I used what came with the kit- I just didn't initially realize that this was absolutely required to not have a leak, so I had to cut the old hardware out on the one side in order to install the new hardware.

Ohio. But if you are referring to the factory exhaust manifolds, you will have that anywhere because the heat breaks them down regardless of climate.

My LT headers come next month, if I PV blast my stock header bolts everyday a week out from actually trying to remove them, will that help or won't do anything?

Oh it will definately help, especially if you aren't driving it.

Yes, but not as much as if stationary. PB blaster is technically flammable (requires direct flame to burn), though I've never had an issue with it catching fire on hot exhaust parts. So since you'll be driving it every day, I would recommend only spraying it after the engine has cooled down, and allow it to set for several hours before driving it again. It's still going to smoke a little if it doesn't completely dry/evaporate as the residue "burns" off. I've done it numerous times over the last 20 years without having any issues...
