I never try to escape the half-guard, in fact, I have developed an entire system for attacking from within the half-guard. Couple of key points: the leg that is trapped, immediately push your opponents top leg away and point your knee straight up. Afterwards, use your free leg to staple his arm (at the bicep area) to the ground with your shin. From there, if it's gi, you can get a deep bread-cutter grip then wedge your forearm into his throat and start driving your elbow into the ground. He'll either tap, or his response will be to turn towards you, at which point you can begin to attack his free arm or associated shoulder with no interruption because his other arm is trapped beneath your shin. If it's no-gi, there is no collar to latch onto so you would firmly grasp the meat right there between the neck and the shoulder and again wedge your forearm beneath the chin and into the throat and drive your elbow to the ground and go from there. I have chokes from this position, shoulder locks, arm-bars, including a modified spinning arm-bar, and even a bicep slicer. Keep up the good work, I love your page...

Hey coach brian I had a question I'm trying to teach my girlfriend jui jitsu she's trying to be law enforcement in the future. she is smaller than me and has shorter arms and limbs I'm trying to teach you an armbar Is there any specific details that she can use that I could teach her in order for her to get an armbar a lot easier I'm close to 6 ft and she's about 5 ft 8
@TeachMeGrappling2 жыл бұрын
In the guard? In the mount? The basics should be the same no matter the size difference... Good luck!

Any decent guard player is going to control that lead arm as you try to pass. Your opening up a back take.
@TeachMeGrappling2 жыл бұрын
Yes I will be doing a back take in the future... Details matter. Guard passing doesn't happen without a mistake by the bottom player. For higher levels, fatigue is usually the factor that leads to the mistake and the guard pass. 🤙
