Thank you for the video. I needed to see what kind of flame this thing could put out before i buy one. I never knew they made hho generators for torches. Not until I googled "glass blowing torches" and this came up. I have used oxygen concentrators with natural gas. It's crazy too because before i bought oxygen tanks i was looking for an 02 concentrator but they are all very expensive. This torch would of been perfect but I never saw anything like this, even with the hundreds of searches on torch systems that iv done over the years. I wound up spending alot of money on torches when this thing would of met my purpose.

Been using mine for just under 4 years until she died (i susspect the reaction vessel is consumed ) still worth it but i use mine alot i mean alot alot I have probably silver solderd about 3 miles of stainless steel wire and staysilv 56 in that amount of time Best torch ever for silversmithing zero gas cost

What is the difference in the flame using only water in the steel cylinder instead of another flammable like the ethanol you used?

Bigger flame with ethanol but slightly less hot

@@BrianDhvTinkerer apparently bubbling the mixture through ethanol also makes the flame non-oxidizing AND the ethanol bubbler would act as a flashback arrestor if everything fails.

@badgermcbadger1968 yes HHO mix- always worried about flashback but it has a decent bubble flashback arrestor

I have one these for a while I am wondering how to lower the output pressure at the torch, I use it for making jewelry, the reason I need to lower the pressure is it blows the solder chips of my soldering pad. I bought the thing so I didn't need to buy regulators for propane/oxygen and bottles, it was the cheaper option, I still am going to have to get them though, the flame on the brown's gas generator is too focused, it hot enough but solder tends to run away from the 5200 degree flame.

These units probably have a built in switch mode power supply. Otherwise I was going to suggest using a variac to lower the input AC voltage to the HHO generator. This may still work and it is worth a try.

But the bubbler is supposed to act as a flashback arrestor why would u use somthing flammable in the tank thats supposed to stop fire from entering the vessel

When I read the manual that came with the HO generator, it said that the flame temperature of the plain HO is extremely hot and the flame is also not very visible and very small. Bubbling through ethanol enriches the flame with fuel so that it becomes longer and less hot, but still hot enough to melt metal or glass. That was my take just reading the manual. However, before I read the manual, I was not exactly sure why they were using ethanol or acetone ethanol mixtures

Awesome video! but i am curious as to what purpose does the alcohol serve?

I think what it does is it slightly enriched the HHO fuel, and it produces a longer but slightly less hot flame. Also as the alcohol has a lower surface tension compared with water, it allows the gas to more easily flow out of the system.

Watch about keeping water in it when not in use.. the electrodes that are in it will still corrode not connected to power..

The alcohol thats used in the contain does destilled water work aswell . Why alcohol? What percentage alcohol?

You can use pure alcohol (ethanol is better then methanol) as it helps to increase flame length but at the expense of flame temperature. Various mixtures of ethanol and water also work eg 1:1, but not as well as pure ethanol. I have also used 1:1 or 1:2 acetone alcohol mixes and they work well. With pure water the flame is shorter but much hotter. It’s sometimes a bit challenging to keep the flame going with pure water

@@BrianDhvTinkerer hmmm like a catalyst. the effect when the metal glows up seems abit like its not only purely heat transfer but also reactive effect from the oxygene. O would like to try to melt molyodenum metal with it that melts at 2400 celcius if it works make a melting furnace if it works and i then wonder if i can get the flame hot enough to melt an amount like a hands fist?

This particular torch is for small scale melting. I don’t know if they have larger ones or not.

do you need glasses or a welding mask when melting metal because of how bright it is?

Should really have welding glasses, but I was just doing it without the welding glasses because I didn’t realize how bright it was going to get

I have read that people have used this set up in the jewelry trade for about three years with no issues. When stored, it is best to wash out the sodium hydroxide solution from the tank to reserve the plates. Other than that, not a lot of maintenance.
