Thank you for taking the time to demo this Food Saver machine. I have the 5000 series (like yours) for several years and it's terrific. This new Elite machine I bought because of the pulse feature and I cook sous vide style plus soups. However, I believe the biggest design flaw they made is the bag situation. Very awkward to use taking that bag out to use the accessory. They need folks that actually cook to design these machines...in my opinion. If the features of Elite were incorporated into the 5000 series...that would be the winner.

I have a 5800 that we use quite often when buying in bulk. This all in one looks like too much trouble. Would like one specifically for liquids that would dispense the rolls like the 5800. Thank you for this post. Very helpful.

I like the detail you put into your reviews. Thank you for doing that. I just bought this model and actually like it. It's important when performing the 2nd seal (once you have something in the bag) that you've cleared the bag material from the machine and have it stored only in the back). That's why the auto start would not initiate for you each time. You never have to push the front down all the way. When you're doing the first seal on a new bag, then you depress the front slightly, using both front corners. Once the unit activates, let go and it will close the front and begin the sequence. If it senses bag material coming in from the back it will not auto detect. I found simply cutting and sealing all the bags i need first, then re- rolling the material into the back, makes the process a bit easier. It always auto detected and started. I didn't see the link you mentioned for the place you get your bags from. Thanks aydin.

Thanks so much for this video. I've been watching lots on the topic , as I am planning to get myself my first FoodSaver in a few days. For myself, I think I am still leaning towards this model as I do make a lot of stews, spaghetti sauces .... And liquidy things that I will also want to take the air out of and store (as well as the usual meats....). I'd love to use it to marinate too. I am getting the idea this one is the best for liquids though which us something I hope to use it often for.

I have an older model and found a different hack for freezing liquids (especially since my model is not tall enough to stand up the bag): I use my Gripsticks , push part of the air out, then close and freeze. Next day you can remove the gripstick, vacuum and seal as usual. Also, the fridge bags for the attachment used to be sub-par as the glued-on part would come off . How has your experience been so far with that? I found the Zwilling system for bags and am pretty happy with it as I can freeze them as well. Vacuum sealers are definitely saving money and keep meats from freezer burn!!

You can re use those one bags . I do. I just bought the same exact machine. I’m just learning it. I have another sealer works snd it’s a food sealer but does not do liquid. I wanted one that was an up grade. I’m 60 and had a few sealers before. But not one like this one.

I actually like the design of the newer model more because I plan to use it in 2 steps. First I will cut all the bags that I need and then I will fill them without having to touch the machine. I think they designed it like this for this purpose.

I have had a FoodSaver V2480 for over 20 years and it recently stopped working due to I believe the port access part dry rotted and the spring and ball that was in it is now up and out of the machine. I am looking for a new one. Thanks for your review.

Excellent review. The price on the 4 rolls is awesome. I just bought a set of 4 rolls. I'll be saving that in my list on Amazon. I do bulk sealing: Salmon, beef, chicken, etc. I get my bags ready and filled, remove the roll and then start vacuum sealing the products. This new one works for me but I almost never seal just one thing. If I do, it is just one thing. I just found ya, great job on the video and info. You should work for Audio books. You have a great radio voice. Awesome job. Thank you

Thank you for the video! I honestly think that this is a very expensive product that is still in beta development. All of it's "wonderful" features seem to complicate the very simple process of vacuum sealing. I have been vacuum sealing for 30 years using all sorts of machines (I get to test and review products). Most newer machines will do moist and pulse settings. The "liquid" mode seem like nothing more that a short pulse followed by a seal. It is hard to know why this machine would cost almost $400 retail. At that price you could buy a chamber vacuum sealer which will seal with a greater vacuum, and also handles liquids and powders (like flour) very well. I bought a chamber vacuum around 2 years ago and they are super. Mine was less than $300 (Chinese off brand). Best of all, the pouches for chamber sealers are in the 4-12 cents range (depending on the size). Just my two cents.

great video. I am pretty much sold. You hit all the great points and questions that came up in my head during the video. Thank you so much for the time and giving your honest opinion. I have a question, does the attachment that vacuum seals the bags, can it be used to vacuum seal jars? I went to the food saver website and chatted with an associate and they said yes. Butttt...I need an honet review :)

I’d leave more room in the soup bag and hit liquid mode and then vacuum seal or pulse. You do want some air out. . Especially if your marinading meat and freezing them or even know the fridge. That I do know. I’ve only had my machine a few days but owned others , I tried the machine with water and the machine didn’t take out a tun of air..

I would like to commend you for your work on this video. It’s a stand out amongst others. For me this new unit is not worth the very high price tag. I’ve always done just fine with my other units sealing liquids. Mine have lasted decades each. From the first model available that I bought at Costco. One note I need to make here. IMHO you are cutting your bags way too small. Cutting to size is a bigger waste because now you can only reuse the bag for smaller and smaller things each use. Double the size and cut along the smaller seal. Now you still have a large enough bag to reuse for more of your day to day use. Remember to not throw the small ones out either. Seal matches and lighters in the small bags for camping etc. clothes even. Don’t limit yourself to food. Air has to be removed because removing the air is what makes the food safe and last for years. If air remains you will get freezer burn and air breeds bacteria. Another point is only put the open end of the bag in far enough to just passed the required position. Less bag used. Write on the part of the bag that you will be cutting off. Use the cutter to reopen the bag in a straight line. I do reuse my bags until they no longer seal. I place them in the dishwasher open to the spray and use clothes pegs to keep them in place. Perfectly clean and sanitary every time. Once again good job. I can’t wait to watch your other videos.

That looks like a pain in the butt to use. I have an older food saver 3800 and it seems better than the new model in every way. I don’t think that company ever invents anything new any more. They just keep reshaping the old technology in different forms to hit all their price point models and get people to upgrade. 🤷🏼‍♂️
