I was not planning on making this video, but my washer was leaking today. I had some spare parts on hand made the repair and realized some people don’t know where to even start checking for leaks on a front load washer. I had already done the repair so unfortunately this is not a how to Video.
Tools recommended are Philips head screw driver, Large needle nose pliers. And a snake camera to check hoses for clogs.
Always remember before starting any work on an appliance that it is unplugged, has been allowed to discharge, and that you turn off your water.
Always remember that any project you do choose to tackle yourself is at your own risk. If the work being performed is outside your expertise or existing stock of tools and workspace. Hire a professional.

Thanks for the video. I'd like to add a correction. If your in feed hoses are leaking and they weren't loose, replace the sealing gasket. These don't use the threads to seal. Adding Teflon tape isn't fixing the leaking area.

Thank you for your video. The leak I needed to find was in the 'filter to tub hose', which was only found when the machine was tipped over as you demonstrated at approx 06:00 minute mark. The hose had a small hole in it and I was able to do a temporary repair using a bicycle tyre (tire) repair kit (vulcanising glue and patch).

TheJonboix a neat trick I learned is if you want to make sure your washer is no longer leaking is use a large cardboard box that fits between the feet. After every wash cycle pull it out. Any water should and signs of a leak and it will also gives you the general location of the leak.

Hi Joel, thanks for posting, you are very helpful. My only problem is I have the washer and dryer stacked in a closet that the builder made for this but I have a tile floor with a marble threshold which is in our bedroom suite that has carpeting, so sliding out is a bit of a problem. I have to get a big sheet of metal and try sliding it out over the threshold and rug. That is the hard part, finding and fixing the leak will be the easy part if it is just the hose. Thanks again for your help!

Thanks for the video it has helped me eliminate all of the leaking points of the washer. the cardboard test is the best idea ever.After seeing this video I have discovered where my leak is coming from. The warranty tech came out to find the leak and tried everything. It turns out that the leak was coming from the over flow outlet on the back of the washer it is a white plastic part that acts like a vent for the tub. The soap I was using was ALL 4 in 1 pods that has softeners that don't allow the suds to dissipate so they came out the back of the washer I changed to Tide pods without softeners and no more leaks that simple. So use soap that has no softeners and is HE rated.

I've worked on appliances for 10+ yrs. I tell all my customers to buy the mesh bags for washing small things and you need to leave the door open for 12hrs or more after use. "This is the First Person I seen on YT with enough common cents to get one." They never do, then a few months go by and I get called out for the same problem or a leaking tub seal. A lot of problems with the newer W/D are caused be the operator, too much fabric softer or detergent.

Just replaced all shocked absorbers, the inlet hose when filling. And the door seal, all tip top dome right and tight. But it's still leaking. Directly under the machine, I have not yet inspected that hose...but I hope that's all it is. This thing is becoming my 95 neon all over again. Needs constant attention. If it's the tub itself it's gone that's it. So for it's own sake it better be that hose. That's the only thing at this point I've checked everything else and basically rebuilt the entire machine. Bought it used, first mistake...man someone really didn't know what they were doing lol Bought a FRONT loader, 2nd mistake. Thanks for the video! Great video, my question is common sense but what would I look for in the hose? Didn't look cracked or bent from the sides. But couldn't actually see under the hose. A split maybe??
@dissectingdiy

It depends which hose. I am guessing the main drain hose I showed?. My issue was like yours. I could not figure out why it was leaking. I bought a new drain hose on amazon which came with a new clamp. this fixed the issue. It could also be coming from the grey drain hose that goes from the pump all the way to the drain. I have seen this clogged with my kids socks and it is so much fun to get out. Also you don't know how many times I'be heard of people troubleshooting only to find the filter knob was not cleaned and put back properly. Or the drain plug for filter was not reattached.

Our Samsung washer just dumped its water into the pan tonight. Thank God I reinstalled pan and drain after laundry room remodel. Before I hooked up the washer, I cleaned out the trap in front, removed pump and checked pump impeller for blockage. Reconnected everything including round spring clamp holding boot seal. Installed new braided steel lines as precaution. It’s about 8 years old. Won’t be easy to remove washer from cabinet - dreading the process. Noticed small amount of water recently in pan up front on detergent cubby side. Could boot seal be culprit? Just fixed dryer yesterday. Both have been troublesome.

@dissectingdiy 4 жыл бұрын
Georgia Fan inwould run it and watch it during the cycle. Focus on your drain hoses and inlets. Place a dry piece of cardboard and keep checking it through the cycle. It could be the front but it could be a clogged feeding tray for detergent. Really need to watch it. If it is coming from under the unit. You will definitely have to pull it out of the area and investigate further. If unable to. Will need a local handyman.

Angela Ramcharan once you have an idea of the leaks location. At this point there’s no other was to locate than to pull the washer out and look. The Front right I don’t remember there being any hoses. Is it the same model as mine or newer? First I would check the your water leak is not from the filter trap. Sometimes they aren’t clean. Leak and travel along the front. There could be water getting behind the front gasket. And finally check where your detergent goes. Make sure it’s clean and not clogged up enough to cause the water to spill out.

Henrik Staib you mean at the door you have a leak and suspect the gasket to be the issue? As you begin to remove that Grey piece. I believe there screws that attach them to the unit themself are behind the grey gasket. Remember to be really careful here because that rubber piece can tear. Try peeling back that area gently. I am assuming you’re trying to remove that grey gasket? Also remember the wire the goes around the front of the gasket to maintain a seal.

So I identified my problem to be the drain pump. I took it apart, thinking maybe there was something that got stuck and prevented the pump to spin or something, but did not find anything on the suspected part, so it must be broken. I did pull out hairy fluff from the inner shaft of the other (circulation) pump that was working fine though. I swapped the pumps so that I would expect to have a faulty circulation pump, but functioning drain pump, then reassembled everything. Now I have a leak, and I have no idea where it comes from. I opened the machine and did not see any obvious place within the parts that I have touched, so I am quite puzzled. Is there something that I should have known about proper sealing of the pumps when I reattach them plus the assembly? In my head everything should be tight and snug and fine, but the water is telling me something else.
@roygalaasen
@roygalaasen 2 жыл бұрын
I tried to locate the leak today. It was impossible to look from the top of the machine so I tried to take off the back cover to have a look from there. Running water into the machine, I could not see any leaks. Running the circulation pump, nothing. Trying to drain, and the pump did not start. I waited for a few minutes and suddenly it bursted into action. The leak was coming from the gasket of the drain pump where it is attached to the assembly. I have now ordered a whole new double assembly with brand new pumps attached, so hopefully problem solved when it arrives.

I just found this video and found it helpful, thank you. Like a commenter below, mine is leaking but only intermittently. It is leaking from the bottom left side slightly closer to the front. My washer sits on a pedestal so the cardboard trick won't work for me. I've started wedging a few folded paper towels in the gap between the bottom of the washer and the pedestal before each load. After a load the paper towels are sometimes bone dry, other times soaked. I have cleaned the filter in the front. I do notice that a lot of water collects in the front rubber door seal. That area gets pretty grody pretty fast. When I pulled back the lower seal there was some disgusting gunk in there which I cleaned out. Any ideas on what my issue may be? (And my daughters are own in their late teens so I don't think baby socks are the culprit, lol)
@dissectingdiy
@dissectingdiy 3 жыл бұрын
Nancymeridian based on the description. The gasket under different temperatures can expand and contract. It can usually handle this no problem. But when it gets grimed up. It needs to be cleaned as any imperfections in the seal are only worsened through temperature swings. It sounds like you did this and I would clean the housing again where the gasket rests and clean the gasket itself. Then I would apply a gasket gel typically found at local hardware stores. However, typically if this is leaking you can see it coming right out the front. So it’s it’s unseen even when looking at the filter access port. Then it could be the pump. Typically this is a back up of some kind. These would be my initial steps for trouble shooting. While you have the filter port open. I would also feel around in the pump area. Wadded gum wrappers, or even large amounts of hair can sometime get stuck in there and cause an issue with the flow. If it still occurs further troubleshooting will be needed. It could be pump housing. Based on the description of the leak. These are my ideas around the issue.

The filter at the base will leak if not drained properly. this is normal. There should be a hose with a plug in it. You will need a small bucket to catch that water. If water does spill on the floor it wipes up easy. After all that water is out you can go ahead and inspect the filter for anything it might have caught. Clean out any sludge and or debris. When putting the filter back in. Ensure that the gasket is clean and that the hose has been plugged again. Good luck.

I opened emergency drain tube but there was no water coming out. However the water was dripping under the pump filter. I soaked all the water and wanted to clean up the filter. But I could not pull out the filter. I tried to turn the pump filter knob counterclockwise as per instruction but I still could not pull the filter out. How it's supposed to come out? Thank you

@@olegleontovych3124 you are doing it correctly. I have a video for the filter housing. If you never have taken it out it may be stuck and once removed the gasket may have issues resealing. I recommend having a replacement gasket on hand. Some people who have had to force it have cracked or stripped it out. So be careful. If this does happen there are replacement parts of course but you’ll have to prepare around the down time.

@@dissectingdiy Thank you for that video, brother. I reviewed and it will try to use some pliers. It's very inconvenient to hold the pipe while rotating and pulling the filter. Could it be that all dirt and crap that was collected in the filter has caused it to get stuck?

I have a slightly different issue with my Samsung front load washer. I see no water leaks while the unit goes through the cycles. When completed, I open the door and I remove the clothes. Typically I leave the door open so that it cuts down on mildew, etc. It's when I open the door is when I see water dripping from the bottom of the door. Is there anything in/on the door itself that retains water and leaks from the bottom?

Mine leaks from the left side starting at the soap dispenser level and then down the join in the side ONLY when I do the "sanitize" cycle. Brand new machine. No idea - I just put a towel on the floor and pick it up after. :(

Maryam during the really hot sanitize cycle only? If you just bought it definitely contact Samsung for a service tech. My got hit with a surge and they repaired it for nothing. I can’t think of any reason other than physical damage. Unless the hot cycle is heating up a poorly seated seal somewhere and causing water to get by.

@@dissectingdiy Thank you for responding! I think it has something to do with the temperature of the water as it starts about 20 - 30 minutes into the cycle. If I open the soap dispenser, it pours out. What alerted me to it was a loud crack noise that sounded like a stiff plastic cup being slammed on a concrete surface. Could not find the source of the noise and later found the water - I opened the soap dispenser at that time - and closed it again with all the water coming out and it made the same noise about 5 minutes later. I will contact them - I was just hoping that there would be a simple solution.

Maryam that’s really odd, but does sound like the temp of the water being dispensed may be too hot??I would double check the hot water temp on the hot water tank as a precaution to make sure it’s not set really high. As it could be a scalding risk. You don’t want to go below 120 degrees as it may not be hot enough to kill bacteria or anything in the water. But it sounds like something may have cracked or come loose from the temperature of the water? Defective unit? It could just be something was loose that’s the warmer temps broke loose, a clone to a hose, but best to check just to make sure the water isn’t getting too hot. Again this would be odd because they are designed to handle a bit of heat.

@Maryam-mw1wm 4 жыл бұрын
@@dissectingdiy The water from the house water heater is set low enough so that no one will burn themselves accidentally but in the washer, the sanitize cycle heats water to 165 F to kill germs or does a better job of killing germs. The washer has that as an option so should be able to function ok, but I think you are right that it does not seem to be able to handle the high temperatures.

Soooo I just found out the air gap is a thing. I’ve had a soapy water leak 2 times in a month. Both times I was washing something like a blanket and noticed lots of suds in the machine. Does anyone think my issues could be the air gap? When it has leaked it’s only been on one side of the drain pan, I can’t find any wet or marks anywhere on the front or under.

The seal can be tight. Take it easy when removing or you can crack it. If it leaks after putting back in clean around the housing for scale and grease with a gasket rated grease. I believe silicon is okay but double check. If the gasket is deteriorated you can get a new one.

Question! Please help! Mother of 8 kids here! I do laundry daily and my washer is leaking right on the bottom corner where filter is. Ok I've checked filter and cleaned it out and it still is leaking. Now after every load (usually after final rinse) I turn main water lines off. And it won't leak. But if I leave water on it will sit there and leak non stop

Mikki Gardner do you wash small socks? Pump might be fighting to push one through causing pressure build up. Or the hose could be compromised. If you haven’t tackled it I would get a local service agent to service it. If you can pull it out and run a load and run a camera to see where the leak is and see if any water is actually draining from the hose that can be helpful in troubleshooting.

Mikki Gardner ok when I was washing small socks for my two little ones a sock got jammed in the pump. And it water was coming out the pump. Had to take it out. But I had to flip the whole thing and use a snake cam to find it. Is it coming from the filter itself or from the pump? Could be something as simple as a dirty gasket if from filter housing. Check for cracks as well. If it’s something simple like a dirty gasket. Can clean and use a Teflon or silicone based jelly to help lubricate and seal. Don’t use petroleum jelly as it can eat away at the rubber gasket. If you’re in a pinch go to Home Depot and in the filter section they’ll have replacement gaskets for the filter housing that includes the lubricant.
