I found over a hundred and fifty bottles in a deep outhouse in my back yard. The ground was flat and you couldn't tell it was there. These bottles were very old and some are worth a lot of money. we found a lot of interesting stuff .A whole chamber pot, opium pipes and lots more. We still have them. Our home is in Nevada City. I enjoy your program. Good luck

We were all new at one point. If you can, keep notes on your trips out. Log down where you went, type of ground, what you used (detector, sluice, pan, etc.), and how much gold you got. After a while you will notice a pattern on the best way to find gold in your area. Good luck and have fun! Thanks - Gary

I keep hearing stories of the old Chinese miners hanging on to their platinum and stashing it away. It wasn't valued before the 1880's and was thought of as junk. This is exactly what I want to do, find old camps and search around for these caches of platinum left behind.

Very nice! Now we are getting into it, that one large nugget that kind of look like a Boomarang was really a nice looking piece. Just as a suggestion, when it gets hot out there why don't you take your baseball cap and soak it in the river to cool your head, and you can also take your shirt and soak it to cool you down, That's what I do and it works great. Keep up the great job I kind a wish I was you, thanks again

Would you mind commenting about what features you consider to be the most important for buying a metal detector? We are just starting out. Thanks for your videos. They are informative.
@TwoToes
@TwoToes 7 жыл бұрын
If your getting a detector for finding gold, the most important feature - it has to be able to handle very mineralized soil. You will be trying to find the hardest target in the worse conditions when looking for gold. Try to find out what the other miners in your area are using. Then do what most people don't do - take the time to learn how to run the detector. Good luck and thanks - Gary

I try to keep a log and I draw a map of the sites I dig. Mainly for three reasons; 1- So I can return to the site years later and I have an idea where it is, and where I have already worked. 2 - When someone wants more information about a item I have found, I am able to refer to my notes. 3 - If I am reading the history of an area or someone is requesting information about the history, I have my notes to refer to, it makes the history come alive. Thanks - Gary

When I get home, the first thing I do is put everything I was wearing in the wash. Then I scrub my hands, arms, and face with dish soap. Then I jump in the shower with the dish soap, and wash down one more time. This works very good for me. If I end up with any, its only a small bump or two. Thank - Gary

Great video Gary. would have loved to see the nugget detecting too. Lots of great pointers and tips. Thanks. I noticed you are running a TDI rather than an MXT. Any particular reason why? I understand for depth, bit your site was all shallow. enlighten me please? Also no hand held pinpointer?

I don't use the hand held because I have a bad habit of walking off and leaving them right were I set them down. I was spending to much time going back a getting it. I took my TDI because I was hoping to get to do a little nugget hunting on the same trip. I have 2 nugget hunting videos in the works now. One is in Nevada and I am shooting one right now on bench hunting ( river is still to high). Thank you for the support !

Gary: A word of warning, unless you are digging for bottles, etc. on private lands you probably are in violation of the Archaeological Resource Protection Act of 1979. It has very stiff fines and jail time (look at Sec 6a. and 6d). They define protected resources as anything being more than 100 years old. I really like you videos, but I'm not sure you want to be posting this type of video. Best Regards

Most all of the sites I look for old bottles on, are private land. I'm not sure why, but when I do research for old sites to dig, most of the time they end up on private land. In all the years I have been doing this, I have only been turned down once when asking permission to dig. Thanks - Gary
