It's a trope of Golden Age detective fiction that the upper class hero is allowed to attend crime scenes, question witnesses, and even sit in on interrogations.
@trans80107 жыл бұрын
That was taken from real life, newspaper reporters used to go to crime scenes often, in fact some would steal evidence, so they could out scoop other papers. If it was a hot scene, newsies or copy boys would be used to create a distraction so a reporter could sneak into a room and photograph the bodies and sometimes walk through the crime scene, often compromising the evidence in the process. One of the reasons why there are many unsolved cases in those days was because of such evidence tampering. If you had the money and the influence you could do pretty much whatever you wanted. Crime fiction writers often used these events in their writings.

I like the way Batman was portrayed as an ominous detective in his first story, it’s one thing I like about the character. He can either be the main character, or the object of the mystery. We don’t learn that Bruce is Batman until the ending, and he’s far more a pulp character than Superman. I got to read a copy of this story in my copy of Hush Part One. Also, I love how the very first side character we meet is Commissioner Gordon.

The odd thing about Batman is that his origin took a while to fully unveil later Detective Comics #27 came out in April 1939 and his parents and thier killer Joe Chill (who was originally unnamed and wasn't properly named until Batman #47 (June-July 1948) debuted in DC #33 in October 1939 with the rest just being character filler.

When it comes to Batman killing, THIS story at least has it clearly as an accident. Though yeah, he coldly called it a fitting end for the villain, sounding a good bit harsher than he would in later years, it's clear that Bruce simply reacted to the gun coming out with a punch; the bad guy then fell against a railing that gave way. It's not Bruce's fault that the bad guy's evil lair wasn't OSHA-compliant! That could easily happen in a modern comic after the establishment of his no-kill rule. That happened several times, a normal punch or kick that’s a pretty logical reaction to the attack being launched against him ending up setting up the villain’s accidental death. (Another scene that gets around is one where he shoots a guy while saying “you’ll never harm another mortal man” or something like that. Well, that guy was a vampire, at a time vampires were seldom or never portrayed the way they are now (heartthrobs with all bloodsucking offscreen, or victims with a hunger they hate. Nope, they were undead monsters who’d long ceased to be alive or human.) Now, if those stories were written now, he’d probably more clearly try to save them; he probably throws out a grappling hook that juuuuust misses the bad guy falling toward the acid, and feels bad about it. And I can’t say I know enough about the Golden Age to say he never killed intentionally. But the moments MOST used to paint old-school Batsy as a remorseless murderer (and to pretend trash like ASBAR or BVS is truer to the original stories - NO, THEY AREN'T.) tell a radically different story when you look at more than the one panel of the villain’s death.

Opinion based stuff with a bit of Fact from the real deal like yourself. I wouldn't mind getting your opinion , if you don't mind giving it. So my Absolute Favorite Comic series, before the movies, and media and in its Raw form is X men. I'm sure i am not alone. I know a whole bunch about the wiki facts (i guess) and the details to his character but i never understood why my friends would say certain things as if it were comic based fact. Sometimes continuity and universe swaps will affect the character, but I could never seem to figure out the base of what they were saying SO to explain, When i was deployed to Iraq, We got bored. Really Really Bored. Really! We would play the What would you be ? game a lot. SO When the question came up for : What x man would you be? I say every time Colossus. And then get called Gay. And " you know colossus is gay right, You know Colossus likes dudes. I had some Comic book Buffs at the time and never was able to find out the "proof" to this. Additionally, A lot of opinion came back on how stupid of a character he was, and how much of a wanna be Hulk he is created to be. He is just another secondary to Hulk and is in deed killed by Hulk in some series crossover Idk. Since you are the boss hoss in this category, would you know more as to why my buddies would say he was "factually" a homo sex". I also couldn't find him killed in any series by hulk, I always though he dies in the search for a test cure for the Legacy virus. (that's my nerd in me coming out) Cuz this is Deem Uncanny territory. YOur opinion is word here so Negative or positive it is fine. I have my own theory about Batman, the entire DC universe exists only Bruce Wayne's mind. As a young a boy, witnessing his parents' murders, Bruce Wayne immediately goes into a catatonic state. Lionel Luther, Bruce's legal guardian, absorbs Wayne Industries into LexCorp. He then embezzlers Bruce's trust fund, and throws the poor kid into Arkham Asylum. Being catatonic, but able to still take in the world around, he absorbs everything he sees and hears. His allies are actually internists who work there. The turn over rate would be an example of all the different Robins, Batgirls, and other allies in Batman lore. The villains would then be his inmates. In his mind, their behavior and appearance would be exaggerated. The one exception would be Selina Kyle. A beautiful rich socialite who has to do community service for spraying red paint on a black leopard skinned coat. Eventually he starts imaging a race of superhuman beings, both good and evil. While Bruce fights street thugs, and the criminally insane, the super beings save the universe. Batman also helps fight super villains, while Superman goes after Lex Luther. Alfred visits Bruce everyday, and helps take care of him. All the while looking at Bruce, and wondering what's going on in his head.

I would like to hear Linkara's views on "Batman: Year Two" (Detective Comics #575-578). I've read it several times and I still don't know what to think of it. I can't decide if it's: good, bad, or just weird.

I lean more towards the latter.

I love the first comic. The art is good too.

14:29 WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?!

So do you use the gravelly voice for ALL iterations of Batman, even silver age? I thought it would be more fitting for at least Silver Age Batman comics to have Batman's voice be read with an Adam West impression.

so we've seen the origin of batman, but when are we gonna' see the origin of bat-hero?

Why do I get a feeling that if this review was made today the "Contract" would result in a Kyuubey joke?

I always thought the first Batman story was the one with the Joker. Nice analysis by Linkara, by the way.

Joker appeared in the first issue of Batman's solo title

Bob kane "Created" batman sure but it was Bill finger who gave him his iconic look... (Bob took all credit then sold the character and lived like a king leaving bill finger to die Penny-less and alone when Bob could've fixed it at any given time...) *I hope Bob kane is burning in HELL!!!*

Comic book time does not work like real time. It is very confusing.

Batman's belt is kinda tight. It makes him look like he has a petite waist and thunder thighs

Is this an origin for the Joker as well??? Why does Batman throw crooks into vats of chemicals!
@jenkind19 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? Of course its a pilot episode...its the first issue
@jenkind19 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah...I am aware of that. Batman used to carry a gun too. What does that have to do with my comment?
@jenkind19 жыл бұрын
***** I think you misunderstood my original comment. I was joking about the guy that batman through into acid being the same guy that later becomes the Joker. Not that Batman was acting like the Joker.

***** Yes I am very confused as to what exactly you're trying to say to me or what any of it had to do with the original comment.

Hot take: If you absolutely insist on writing Batman as a killer, you should use the OG purple gloves and flared ears.

How in the world did you get your hands on this? Shouldn't it be worth thousands? Is it a scan of the original that you had to buy? I really need to know
@AT4W8 жыл бұрын
+Darkraes743 It's a scan, plus even then reprints are made of it in trade collections and the like. ^_~
