As a current citizen, I'm concerned that a cop is an addict of anything. Addiction, especially with prescription medication, is terrible (thanks, Sackler family) and they deserve help. Unfortunately, that should bar him from ever being a cop, probably ever having a license, and definitely needs the maximum punishment allowable under current law. If you can't read, "do not operate heavy machinery or drive while taking this medication," you're not literate enough to be a cop.

Same, homie. 7yrs sober now. One of my lowest points was demolishing one of my neighbors mailboxes driving drunk. I fled, sat at the grocery store for a while, came back and the street was still quiet and empty so I thought I was fine. After being inside a couple minutes, a guy in pajamas came to the door. It was the cop who lived across the street from my neighbor. Said he had footage of the entire thing. He asked if I was drinking because he could smell it, but I told him I took a few shots when I got home to calm my nerves. I'm sure he didn't believe me but he still didn't breathalyze me. Got a citation in lieu of arrest, booked into jail the next day then released, helped my neighbor repair his mailbox so he wrote a letter for me and got my record expunged. I was so insanely blessed to not have had my whole life ruined, I would have deserved it

He had to lie to his doctors about smoking weed because since it was a federal agency, they didn't recognize any legality of weed despite being in f'ing San Francisco of all places. He finally got a new doctor assigned to him, she was more into holistic medicine. He told her he smoked weed and she said that if it was helping him, he should continue doing it, and slowly weaned him off the 400-500mg of Oxycontin. Once they had weaned him off, he told me that while the weed obviously didn't kill his underlying pain completely as much as the Oxy (he had a shoulder replacement, hip replacement, etc. from an IED blast) he preferred to not be addicted to pills anymore.

The most relatable thing to me as an addict was when he's trying to make the story sound less serious, and throws in unnecessary details like the McDonald's run, and he holds up the McDonald's bag like "see? I really did go to McDonald's, so that makes the rest of my story credible." Hope he got sober.

He doesn’t truly believe fellow officers should be held to the same standard as everyone else, he just understands that that’s what us “civilians” demand and that he has to put up with it because there’s no other choice when body cameras are in use. Such a revolting mindset that way too many officers have. The worst part of that is how much harder it makes things for honorable, right minded police who don’t think that way.

@@anis6800 no one would have a different opinion based on skin color, and especially wouldn't care if it was weed. People view it differently than alcohol because lots of people people drive to work and back every day on prescription pain medications (whether they should or not) and other RX's without even thinking about it being an issue. Even if medically it can potentially be worse than driving under the influence of alcohol, it's simply more easy to be empathetic for prescription drugs due to how society views them. Also, he took adderall. I don't understand why that was even being focused on by the police. Literally millions of people legally drive around on adderall every single day. I'm amazed that after being read his Miranda rights and knowing he's been a cop, that he sat there and answered their questions. This is an example that it doesn't matter what you know or who you are, when you get into the interrogation room, the police will do everything they can to get you to confess. There are three officers in the room asking questions, with two standing of them standing above him, which indicted a power position over him. Most people in this position are already dazed, confused and nervous and don't know how to act, so they start talking. I'm not condoning his actions, he needs help and hopefully he gets it. But, imagine you are innocent and the pressure police put on people in these rooms is why you need a lawyer to make sure you are not saying something that can be twisted into a confession. Any lawyer out there would never allowed this conversation to happen.

Man, when watching this video, I feel so relieved to have control over all of my mischief from years ago. Particularly when the arresting officer had sort of 'freaked out' with a worried tone after having misheard the suspect, thinking that he had said he took 10 of the 5/325 hydros. Because, back in the throes of my own issues I would've considered 50mg hydro (+soma +zan +add) as merely an 'eye-opener'. Not glorifying my past transgressions here, but rather realizing just how deep into it I was, because at my plateau, I'd run through anywhere from 400-600mg hydro per day; would throw a half full water bottle into the microwave to warm up the water close to body temperature so that things would equalize and absorb more quickly, and then break down and toss 20 of the '10'/325 hydros (200mg) into that water bottle, shake it up into a chalky (yellow at the time) mixture and then down it. That's how I'd simply 'begin' the day. Chase that with about 4 or 5 soma. Head off to work, pop 5 or 8 more hydros every few hours or so. Get home, repeat my morning routine and then get myself ready to go out partying. Continue popping both hydro and soma throughout the night, all while tossing back a minimum of 6 'Double' 151/Redbulls (from a generous bartender since I always tipped well and would go there often). Head out of the club at 2am with the rest of my friends who were all doing the same thing I was doing (except the 151, of all the things mentioned, that was too much for them to maintain their awareness) and hit up the after hours hangouts and 24hr taco shops, but that's how high our tolerances had become. It's hard to articulate just how lucky I feel to be alive and breathing after going through that process for at least 8 years or so. To be frank, I feel so lucky to have realized how much I was screwing up, and then open enough to talk with a different and sober friend about needing help, because I can't imagine what it must be like these days considering all of the counterfeit Fent pressed stuff out there within the past several years. That's so damn frightening.

Even the times I was caught smoking weeds (btw, thank godness I gave it up more than a decade ago) I was treaten with respect and I was just given advices, no tickets. I'm 100% sure that's because I have always talked to them with the respect they deserve and I have also been honest with them, always. In fact, every time I have seen/heard a policeman was "agressive" with a citizen here, it has always been due to the citizen's attitude. And many times, I have seen policemen being TOO much respectful and patience with citizens who really didn't deserve being treated so well. the funny thing is that a lot of people think that they are doing it for the sake of that cop. In reality, they know that not treating a cop with kid gloves will make their coworkers stop trusting and respecting them. So it's more about signaling to your coworkers that you are willing to play the game than it is about them having some kind of 'respect for their fellow officer.' Proximity is a huge factor here. You can watch a lot of these videos and see how if the cop is from a different agency that operates in a different county, they rarely give them any special treatment.

Xanax is an anxiety pill, and with him being ex-military, he probably was prescribed it for PTSD/severe anxiety and became addicted. Given that the Field Sobriety Test is designed so that even fully sober people will fail, I'd be terrified of taking one too. So I don't blame him for that, ESPECIALLY since cops should be even more aware of that than I am. Frankly, I don't know why he agreed to do it.Most cops would just refuse and lawyer up, hoping their Union will get them out of the mess they're in.

I can’t truly be mad at this guy, I understand what he’s going through. He said he served in Afghanistan, got hurt and was prescribed drugs through the Army. I’m guessing he’s unfortunately been hiding his downward spiral of drug abuse due to his injuries. I understand people want to tear him apart in the comments because ACAB bs, but from a veterans point of view this is sad. 16:38

Army, probably infantry, maybe even spec ops or Ranger school, gets discharged, looks for the next thing to keep doing what he knows best - becomes a SWAT trained ofc. Probably because he likes taking down bad guys more than actually protecting the community, and that's an ok mindset... some cops don't even care for either. He has some Military PTSD to deal with, probably turned into a snowball that destroyed his personal life and relationships, and is on this downward spiral to no end. This sometimes happens to on-duty LEOs after a traumatic event/call and then they stop being the same person... leads to divorce, suicide, demotions, etc. I wish this guy all the best in his addiction recovery.

The fact that he, in response to the investigating officer doing his job correctly, in a great example of the pervasive cop mentality of having no expectation of personal responsibility nor accountability, says "I understand todays society". This simple statement really sums up where the modern cop mentality resides. Edit: Yes, I know it's not all of them, but it's way too many, and most of the good ones are bad by association and or for being cowards by not speaking up when needed.

Addiction is sad and insidious. It doesn't discriminate. Although I am not always a fan when I see police officers getting into this kind of stuff, nor a die hard pro police supporter, but I feel for the guy and don't want to judge him as he is justa human being. Years ago when I was in my 20s, following my best friend's death, I got myself in a similar situation as this man and my life turned into shambles. Lost my job, filed for bankruptcy and basically lost everything else except my supportive family (Bless their hearts). I went into rehab and it changed my life. I hope this man gets the help he needs. We don't know the pain he's dealing with internally that led him to this habit and dysfunction in his life. Nothing, but the wishes for him.

I was an officer, fired for Cannabis positive test. I’m not proud about it but I’m also a veteran with PTSD and I can’t lie thc helped me sleep and keep the nightmares away. But I understand the governments position. I didn’t abuse it or anything I just wanted to sleep. Now my 10 year career is over which is the reason I went to the military to begin with, to get experience for police and im disappointed in myself but now I realize I want to work with veterans like myself so I’m going to school to become a nurse and work for the VA hospital. I wish I could had continue to be a cop and I truly respect and will continue to think of cops as my heroes. Cops are people and are susceptible to the human condition. As my lawyer had told me the agencies only want to help alcoholics because they’re seen as having a problem and need help.

What is there to understand, that's a stupid fucking policy and your country screwed you. They send us to war and then we come back all fucked in the head and you lose a decade long career because you smoked some grass to deal with the demons. Alcohol is way worse, they'd rather us vets medicate with that instead, which leads to nothing but pure misery. I feel for you, they did you wrong. That being said, we need some better staff at the VA because I won't even bother calling them or seeing them anymore and I have a rating and a surgery they're supposed to give me, but I can't take that place any longer.

Pink isn't usually used for sleeping pills. They are usually blue, purple or another dark color to indicate that they should be taken in the evening or *when it's dark out.* This goes the same with OTC sleep aids like Nytol or cold medications that have day/night doses. This is how it is in Canada, I can't say the same for the US, but, I doubt they do it differently since we are economically and geologically joined "at the hip." Especially when it comes to food, drugs, vacksines and agriculture.

Now this doesn't dimmish the fact what he did was wrong, but this will most likely cause him to further spiral downhill that will most likely end up in an early death. I can tell you right now there's no way a army doctor would prescribe Adderall to someone om active duty. I know this because back when I graduated highschool I was talking with the Marine recruiter that was at my school. When I mentioned I was on medication for my ADD he said that the only way I'd be allowed to enlist is if I was off my medication for a least 8 months. And that I wouldn't be allowed to take it in the military, he said he was near positive it was the same for the other branches too. And I wasn't even taking Adderall for my ADD.
