What does Detention mean in trucking?
detention time
Truck drivers say that waiting at warehouses for new shipments to load or unload is one of the most aggravating parts of their jobs. It's called "detention time," and it's a result of retail and manufacturing warehouses not being organized to get their shipments ready in time.
Trucking Layover is when a driver is delayed by a shipper or receiver for one or more days. Layover pay is the rate that the driver is paid by the trucking company or the company of the shipper or receiver. The standard is layover pay does not start until after you have been delayed for a full 24 hours.
What does Tonu mean in trucking?
TONU. Truck Order Not Used - a term used to describe a situation when a truck shows up at the shipper and there is no load there to pick up.

Let’s say my initial Rate Con was $800, and then they add me $150 for layover, Does the dispatcher take their percentage from the $800 or from the total $950?

It depends on your agreement, I personally do not touch money from detention and layovers .. we already charge from 5-10.% from gross .. I think it’s a simple business etiquette..
