Thank you. Very helpful that you showed us different world class shooters and their varying LOPs.

I've been shooting American trap for 50 years. I recently had a trap shooter ask me what is the best LOP for himself? I said LOP is like purchasing a pair of shoes, you will just know when it fits and feels just right. Really enjoy your videos. Thank you for posting them.

Hi Russell, yes nice video, I am learning a lot in short time. I guess it would be hard to know what your pull is unless I was to already know if I was to buy a shotgun online from SSAA used guns.

Yes my friend, hard to get the L.O.P exactly right online, but you can get it close

I’ve messed with my lop alot over the last couple years, ive been 14 1/4 all the way to 15 1/4, my sweet spot seems to be around 14 7/8. Im 5’11” with fairly long arms for my height. Hopefully that helps someone!

So my browning with adjustable comb shoots high and the comb is on the lowest point. Will the pattern come down if i shorten the length of pull ?

Is your gun pounding your shoulder indication of too short LOP? Or is there some other reason I'm not getting the stock into my shoulder? Last time I was out, I shot (at) 75 targets, and came home with a mild bruise. My rifle, a Mosin Nagant with its reputation as a kicker, doesn't do this; I shot close to 400 rounds in a weekend several years ago, and not a mark (though it has bruised me quite deeply once, before I put a recoil pad on -- incidentally increasing the legendarily short LOP of the arsenal stock by an inch).
@GoShooting Жыл бұрын
A short stock could be a contributing factor, but so could lack of pitch. Have you changed body shape? The weight of the shotgun, velocity of the ammunition and the weight of the shot in the ammo are the big 3 variables in the actual recoil equation

@@GoShooting This gun is relatively new to me (got it immediately before the pandemic), and I'm new to shotgun sports, so no, I haven't changed body shape since I got it, but it's the original 870 Express wood stock, no fitting done (yes, pumps are the least preferred choice for shotgun sports that include pairs, but it's what I have and I can't afford even a bottom end Turkish double any time soon). I've been shooting common 1 1/8 (32 gram) loads at 1200 fps; I have a Load All II and had been planning to try loading some shells down to 1100, with the option to cut back to 1 ounce payload if that doesn't help enough -- but I'd like to keep as much shot and velocity as possible, since more shot = denser pattern and allows wider choke for the same range, while higher velocity needs less target lead (nearly 10% difference between 1100 and 1200). If I can fix the shoulder issue without loading down my shells, I'd make it easier to shoot better scores. Looks like I'll have to see about getting proper stock fitting measurements

What is your stocks length of pull?
@SilntObsvr Жыл бұрын
@@GoShooting I get 13 7/8" (~35.25 cm) at the toe and 14 1/8" (~35.9 cm) at the heel. My pitch may be on the low side of average; on my 28" barrel I only have about 1 1/2" (~3.8 cm) of stand between rib and wall (assuming this old mobile home's walls are square to the floor, that is). The bruise I had last shoot seemed like it was from the heel of the stock rather than the toe, though. I also can't be sure this gun wasn't adjusted for a previous owner, since I bought it used, though I'd expect that less with an 870 Express than with, say, a Benelli... ;) FWIW, I'm 5' 7" (170 cm) and about 190 lb. (86 kg) with more or less average arm length for my height.
@GoShooting Жыл бұрын
@@SilntObsvr it’s still a touch short for your height. I would expect a typical length for your height would be 362mm at heel, 357mm mid and 367mm at toe

What about the length of a person's neck?
@GoShooting10 ай бұрын
Body shape is a factor. Neck size will be a huge variable in the size of the Monte Carlo stock you should try.

There’s an old saying, “ learn to dance with the girl that brought you”
@briannemec92142 жыл бұрын
My problem is I like shotguns. I could not afford to have LOP adjusted for each of my guns. In my mind, it is more important to know where the gun patterns and adjust for it. In my case it was learn to skate with the girl you just met.
