Excellent video Russell. This is the first time I have ever heard anyone talk about their being different hold points for one eyed shooters vs two eyed. I’m 73 and have been shooting trap since I was 10. I am going to start practicing using your hold point information. Thanks again!! Terry

This is the single most useful video on trap shooting I have seen . After 45 years of shooting I have shot myself loose and had to have a titanium right shoulder fitted , this changed everything , I purchased a Beretta 400 xcel semi auto to reduce recoil and as my right shoulder had dropped I had to learn it all over again , I was averaging 20/25 . After watching this a few times I have changed my hold etc to follow Russell's advise and after 3 weeks I am now averaging 24/25 Thanks Russell

Amazing video! I find myself to keep going back over and over to watch the video to reinforce the hold points. Using this method, I've improved my score by two birds and more importantly, I shoot a lot more consistently!!! I used to break anywhere from 18-24 birds with an avg of 20-21 and now I'm consistently breaking 22-23, I think the rest of it is practice and in my head. THANK YOU!

Really like your videos. Thanks for the coaching. Tried trap for first time today. 17 of 25 then tried skeet, didn't do as well, only 13 of 25.

Good stuff. You could have been an engineer. I can follow those hold points for my ATA shooting for stations 1, 2, and 3 (though at 3 I hold just a smidge right of center.) For stations 4 and 5 I find I must hold further right in order to catch up to the hard right-hand targets. Of course, that makes the hard left targets from those two stations more challenging.

Another question do you think keep my eye away from the barrel to a x point or keep soft focus at the end of barrel,please let me know if you could.thanks again for your help and your channel
@GoShooting Жыл бұрын
If it’s trap your shooting your soft focus needs to be in the target acquisition area not at the end of your barrel

Do you adjust your hold and look points when there is low lighting? thanks.
@GoShooting2 жыл бұрын
It’s a good question. In low light you react slower so a slightly higher hold is beneficial

New to trap. Shot a lot of skeet. I wear a narrow, 1/4 inch piece of translucent tape over my lens. The narrow width allows me to use peripheral vision. Therefore, do you think I might be able to hold above the house?
@GoShooting3 жыл бұрын
Do you wear the tape over your lens because your master eye is opposite to the side you shoulder your shotgun to?

@@randallkadish5663 so why do you have anything taped over your right lens?
@randallkadish56633 жыл бұрын
@@GoShooting for skeet john Shima put a wide piece of tape. It didn't work, so I put a narrow piece of tape so I still had perpetual vision. I have been shooting that way ever since. Recent studies have shown that eye dominance can temporarily shift during an activity like skeet, especially in older cross- dominant folks when their eyes get tired. No unusual in skeet for folks too shoot 3 good rounds then always struggle on the fourth round because of eye dominance shift and an apparent change of leads.

I shoot competition in DTL however I have a weak point and this is the left going targets if I am on post 1 do you have any advice what could be wrong. I'm right-handed and I'm fairly over the gun.
@GoShooting2 жыл бұрын
Are you using one or two eyes? I would you suggest you “open” your stance on stations 1 & 2 also. Have a look at our basic stances for Trap video as a starting point.

@@GoShooting Hi Mark, I use both eyes. I force myself on position 1 and 2 to be almost straight ahead to anticipate a fast left coming. In the other positions I have less of the problem. Last month I had silver at the dtl match in France and I have also shot bronze. My weakness remains the left one on position 1 and position 2

When you are at the hold point, Where the bead has to be, below or in the center of soft vision? I like a little below to better see the trajectory of the target

once you become familiar with the trap house and break points you wont need to......it will become automatic muscle memory.

Its roughly in the middle, but your vision really isn't a circular shape. Its a 3 dimensional cone

Putting a small piece of tape on your left lens so that you don’t see a shadow barrel at the hold point for a right eyed dominant shooter, does that make you a one eyed or two eyed shooter?
