I enjoy your videos. Watched most of your videos. Hope the "Town/City" don't shut you down from filming. Retired now. I live in Southwestern Ontario (close to London, Ont.). Worked for a company which repaired the Steam lines under Downtown London. Actually, Only repaired the Condensate Line (Not the high Pressure Steam line). This company also Rented out Dump Trucks and Equipment (Back-hoe, Excavator & CAT D5 Bulldozer, etc.) to the City of London, Ont. So was involved with the Sewer & water Dept. (more involved with Sewer Dept.). These City crews would tackle some bigger sewer & water jobs, like whole street repair [usually streets which bigger Private companies would not bother bidding on (ie. Small length Dead End Streets, etc.)] . Many years earlier I worked with my Uncle (who owned a small Trucking & Backhoe business, outside of Thunder Bay, Ont.) where we operated a "Grime Fighter 3000" Steam Generator/ Cleaner, which was used to "steam out" Centre Line Calvert's in Unorganized Townships (for the MTO-Ministry of Transport, Ontario) in Northwestern Ontario. We had this unit mounted on a GMC 7500 S/A Plow Truck. it also had a 500gal. Water Tank and a small Diesel Generator to run the pumps and Burner for the Steamer. No Hydrants out in those Townships. It worked well. Better than the old MTO "Kettle" Steamers which was used previously.

@rodpreston100 watch another KZbinr who was video-ing himself operating an Excavator. He was using these videos to teach new operators about the trade. He had maybe 50 videos (from California). They were really good videos. Unfortunately, he was shut down by his employer (a Unionized Operation).

You’re gonna tell me you’ve thought of this…. Next time you install a new hydrant, how about you drop a cable down to a small immersion element wired to the town power to stop the water from freezing? In fact they should come pre installed from the manufacturer, right? Or you have a better idea to make yourselves redundant 😜 Also, why are some plugged (double or otherwise) and some not? 🤔
@rodpreston100
@rodpreston100 7 күн бұрын
@ way back in the day our old engineer wanted all the hydrant plugged , our hydrants are on the drinking water system , so if there was ever a problem and someone opened a hydrant it could make any water that’s in the hydrant release into the water main( backsiphonage) and that water would be dirty ground water with parasites in it and make people sick , doesn’t happen often but can if the water main loses pressure due to a leak , and the only reason a hydrant would freeze is if someone forgot to pump it or some one uses it and doesn’t tell us , most do drain , but ground water will fill them up to the water table level
