Now you need a big ass computer to diagnose the screw up. I drove a 2001 Freightliner w/13 sp fuller and 3.73 rear gear to me that was a great combo behind the 12.9 Detroit , top speed 105 mph but it sounds like the rods wanted a divorce but never push her passed 85mph on down hill drops. My favorite little motor for back in the day. I now drive local a bit easier on my body. Occasionally i get called for a 30 day OTR route from some owner- operators to fill in and its get to run this great nation full of opportunities and money to be made. For some people a long shifter is more comfortable. You also get more leverage on your shift throw which helps to feel your way into the gear better. Like motorcyclists with ape hanger handle bars, its all in what you want and what's comfortable for the driver.
@adambentley3171 Жыл бұрын
It isn't though is it. How can forcing your arm into an unnatural raised position be more comfortable than resting it on the arm rest. What you're saying goes against the laws of physics and biology. You're talking pure shite man. Long shifters serve one purpose and one purpose only, for people to show off how unbelievably skilled and special they 'think' they are, when in reality any real driver just gets on with driving a manual without the need or desire to try and broadcast it to the world.

Yano I owned and ran a haulage /truck business. I have experienced more clutch replacements with drivers setting off in too high a gear when heavily laden. The designers /manufacturers put so many gears in a truck for a reason. I'm old school, retired and glad I'm no longer driving. I would have loved to drive the millions of miles I have driven in a fully automatic gearbox with 600bhp and almost 2000lb/ft of torque. But sadly I had to manage with 120bhp and around 400lb ft of torque at best and a crash box, double clutching on every change and no power steering or air conditioning. Times have changed greatly. I cannot remember how many clutches I've replaced due to drivers thinking they don't need to use all gears when heavily loaded. Not much fun laid under a lorry all day changing a clutch or replacing driveline components. Anyway enough of my rant those days are best gone. Safe driving

It's 18 wheels, not 18 inch wheels. Because a typical semi has 18 wheels all in all. 2 on the tractor's front axle, four on each of the two rear axles = 2+8=10. And then 4 more on each of the trailer's two axles, makes 18.

There is actually one more gear he could have used. A lot of people don’t know it’s there though. Once he goes into the high side he could have pulled it against his leg where first would be. It’s mainly for turning off at low speeds so you don’t have to go back into the low side. The gear ratio doesn’t really match up from a dead stop acceleration but when you can use it that baby pulls pretty damn hard.

I love your shifting style. the twist you do between 3rd and 4th gear. I do that to because when I was learning to drive, it would help remind me what gear I'm in. also I like how when you shift the higher gears you move the shifter twice per shifter position instead of just simply pushing the button on the side. and fuck these people who bitch about you resting your hand on the shifter. it's only hard on it if you push down on it. if you're gently resting your hand on the shifter its harmless or at the very least, does very minimal damage.
