The year that I went to perform the Hajj, ( pilgrimage) in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, we traveled from site to site by bus, in fact almost all three million of the people that were there traveled by buses. Yeah afterwards you was spitting out diesel fumes for days. But honestly it truly was worth it.

Scott has because of the way he treats others the opportunity to build good lasting friendships like Lance and the one on this video. Scott I said in a past comment how if I still had chance to work I would have hooked up with you as your right hand man. I spent 26 years working on off road equipment from brake jobs that drums needed a way to remove with hoist or whatever. To a little diesel repairs the big jobs called in companies to do due to had to many different machines to keep running. The knowledge that I could have learned from a guy like you would have been awesome. And the best part enjoying every minute of it. Keep it up 👍.

@markphilpott87353 жыл бұрын
Wow, an 8v53T? That is a very rare engine. They didn't make many 8v53's even less of the turbo models. The only ones I ever saw were in fire apparatus and marine applications. What are you doing with yours?
@ronfrance40413 жыл бұрын
@@markphilpott8735 yeah! Got a video on my channel of it. It was from a marine corps armored amphibious vehicle. I plan on putting in a chassis I’m building. Open wheel racer 20s concept, Dana 80 Dually with front matching beam axle that have 19.5 wheels and tires.

@@ronfrance4041 cool, I've heard and seen where people are taking old 53 series engines and powering rat rods with them. I think it's a novel way to preserve some history. Good luck with your project.
@markphilpott87353 жыл бұрын
Ron, I just watched your video on the turbo engine. Looks interesting to say the least. I would have answered your questions but the comments were turned off. I hope Scott doesn't object to me answering your questions on his forum... being a 2-cycle engine, the cams turn the same speed as the crank, no need for a speed adaptor on the tach drive. The device on the right bank rack tube is the "throttle delay" in short, it's a smoke reduction device, most people remove the plunger and don't worry about it. All of those additional coolers are for the former transmission and auxiliary hydraulic devices. It would be best to remove them if you can feasibly do so. Additionally, if you could acquire the t-stat housings & crossover assemblies like what is on a 6V53 or you other 8V53 engine it would really clean up the look of the engine.
@ronfrance40413 жыл бұрын
@@markphilpott8735 thanks for watching and giving some info! I don’t know how to turn on the comments! When I upload there is no option for comments to be turned on or off. Maybe there is some other way??? And I do plan on removing all the military optioned cooling system parts, this engine came with everything necessary to run an automotive style set up with the t-stat housings, crossover pipe, etc. I with also be running remote oil filter and cooler and possibly installing a raw water pump on the back with the other cam instead of the water pump on the front since I won’t have a cooler to mount it on. I really want it clean and open on both sides and I need to make it skinny so I can reduce the witch of my chassis to work with the front beam axles suspension.

I love this channel.! I want a bus so bad tempted to sell my vw bus and vw convertible
@claytoncoolidge9923 жыл бұрын
If you look around they are pretty easy to find though conditions vary widely. I got mine 7 years ago from the original owner that did the conversion and never really used it (his wife divorced him a few months before he finished it) back in 87-91. I paid 3000$ for it and drove it home. Needed tires from sitting but everything was clean and barely used a little tlc got everything fired back up and working like it should be. Check surplus auctions I've seen lots of them on those types of auctions usually still just a bus. After buying one that was already converted im very much convinced that it would be better to buy a virgin and do the conversion myself. Atleast then you can put it the way you want it to be and don't have to worry about going to repair something and find out that it wasn't installed properly or the reason it wasn't working is do to improperly installed or wrong voltage or trying to use lower voltage with a ballast resistor and not working properly. I've been pretty lucky he was good at his work and followed procedures and specs but there's several things that I can't understand why he didn't put in a better location or how he didn't know the size of the fixtures and the door doesn't quiet open cause it hits. And I would have laid it out differently from him but I don't have 8 kids and need an rv to sleep 10+ people comfortably and still leave room to move around. But overall it is still better than the motor homes you can buy. Might be heavier older and less fuel efficient than the new ones but the quality of it and the stuff used to build it as well as the longevity and sturdiness of the driveline you can't buy that type of pre-built motor home and get anything that will actually last and stay together. I've seen a few try adding kick outs with mixed results but I'm pretty sure it was due to improper engineering on the part of the person who tried to find a way to build it. I imagine if done properly that kick outs would work well and be great
@claytoncoolidge9923 жыл бұрын
That wear is from low idle for extended periods of time. These Detroits don't like to idle low. I had an issue with my high idle system and not actually giving high idle consistently and would slowly creep back to low idle. It causes low oil pressure and squirters are not able to get the oil to hit the piston and overheats them. I had some very similar looking wear caused from it. The people I bought it from didn't know anything about how to operate it and didn't even know what the high idle was for or supposed to do. Was kinda sad

BGM needs to search out some Flared Steel Workbench Legs and a solid core door from the Re-Store to mount on top . flared steel work bench legs can support an amazing amount of weight.. you could even make work bench legs out of tree trunks if you cut them squarely and the same length and add some unistrut with lag studs to lock them together. since lumber is so expensive.. hopefully you have a RE-Store where contractors and companies send their excess construction supplies instead of sending them to the landfill.

What the difference in pricing between genuine Detroit Diesel over haul kits? Or ordering Mahle? I've seen mixed reviews on the over haul kits that are after market and quality. I know they work, but I remember seeing the literature from Detroit showing the wear between a genuine kit and after market, and it was substantial in the favor of Detroit. Of course, people have budgets so I understand that.
