They could capture her and keep her in a shelter or pen until she gives birth and weans her puppies. Then after that, they could spay and release her, and then after the puppies are old enough to be fixed, adopt the puppies out to people who will actually keep them and know what's involved in caring for a dog. Fixing dogs is the best way to stop this cruelty.

I understand that. But, it seems spaying and neutering is cheaper than the dog house construction project. Also, the feral dog can be caught, spayed and released back to her street life. It would just severely and drastically curb the problem by spaying and neutering. In the long run it'll save LOTS of money and lives. The houses were for dogs whose owners aren't bringing them in away from the elements. I support their efforts. But, feel they need to adjust how they carry them out.

If all those people come to build dog houses, please get them to help collect the dogs for spaying and neutering. Every vet in the city should be able to help out. This is the only solution to ending the problem. Feeding them is great but they multiply so quickly that all the extra money going to feed them could go to spaying and neutering. I agree absolutely with your ideal standards of rescue and care. However, since moving to a backwater community that doesn't neuter, chains dogs outside 24/7 and otherwise lets pets run loose on busy streets, I can see what they're doing. I have enough rescue to do within a square mile of my home. There aren't enough HOMES for these animals to take them inside; you provide insulated dog houses. You neuter when you can afford to. As they said, the pregnant dog is feral. You can't taker her in!

Who's saying WHAT bad things about DDR!?!?! None of the people who run the program are living in 10,000sq/ft homes, driving Bently's, eating at the Whitney (expensive restaurant in Downtown Detroit, just FYI) every night for dinner. They're modest people who give up their time to help animals who can't help themselves. I'd love to give those who try to smear DDR's image a piece of my mind. Apparently, I can afford it, and they need some brains.

I did that in 2002 and I think I paid $38 to get my female fixed. I understand not all animals r gona become family pets, speak to vets etc. , trap the ones you can, get them fixed, if they r not able to be home, release them , put in a sanctuary, at least they won't be creating more litters.

I've heard a lot of bad things about DDR and honestly.. I don't see any of them being true. They are helping these dogs to the best of their ability. This is why I'm not always fond of animal cops, because they take dogs like these and try to adopt them out, but end up euthanizing them when they were completely fine living on the streets. As long as DDR makes sure they have medical attention, food and shelter, I believe these dogs are well taken care of.

How ridiculous, I dream of having one of those houses. In Southern California we don't have enough houses and guess what happens. Supply and demand keeps the prices high.
@ThePimmy115 жыл бұрын
People are wary about buying there. It's only a hour from Flint, notorious lead filled public water. Many areas have none or next to none public services so no: schools, fire Dept, law enforcement. The area is depressed so there are entire neighborhoods with food scarcity and limited employment opportunity. That leaves it only suitable for people with no children, no plans for children, well working car to commute to employment, or someone independently wealthy who probably doesn't want to live somewhere like this. You might luck out, some neighborhoods there are community gardening, safe guarding and self policing abandoned properties to prevent children getting dragged into abandoned buildings and molested.
