SY was the only one to visit Kane while pitching the idea of 88 joining Detroit. That meant a lot to Kane as apparently the rest of the interests came via phone calls from GMs. SY made an effort to go the extra mile and it worked out very well for both sides. Kane is a great add for the future, Perron too but not as much.

I'm not worried Yzerman is a straight professional and a gentleman. Players have a lot of respect for the guy and actually enjoy doing business with him. At least that's my impression lol

@ScottStenlund-ys8iq I think you're probably correct, but I still think the Wings could make the playoffs next season, *if* they play their cards properly and get a little luck.

Raymond and Seider will both probably be in the 7-9M range, and I'm fine with that. They'll get the money for sure. I think the Wings will possibly be able to keep Perron and Kane, but they need to off load some bad contracts like Holl first. So essentially I can see Yzerman looking at the team and making lots of changes like last year. Only difference is instead of just buying a ton of guys via free agency, we'll be selling off guys (free up cap space) to resign the ones we want to keep. We'll let several others walk like Fisher and Aston-Reese. And depending on who we're able to keep, Yzerman will be far more picky in which free agents to try to sign to fill in the remaining holes. Plus, if we still have an opening here or there, I can easily see a prospect or two going full time, like Berggren and Edvinsson which will for the time being both be on ELC making less than 1M.

I don't mind Detroit trying to keep Perron, it just depends on what they do with players like Fischer, Veleno, and Sprong.

If I was a betting man, I'd say the Wings are most likely to keep Perron, let Kane walk (he wants money and term), and then try to trade Berggren and some of the other players/prospects for a starting goaltender and/or a scoring winger.

8 X 8 for Mo and Raymond. How is Kane feeling ? Will he hold up for 82 games + ?? Bergren is the real deal. Petry is expendable. So is Holl

Hell no , you pay your players for actually doing things for your team , as the leafs showed , you dont pay your players for what they could do theoretically

Regardless of resigning Kane and Perron Yzerman will need to make some bolder moves to improve the team to keep up with the division... Obviously Yzerman will get the Raymond and Seider deals done, hopefully long term. He will need to dump at least a few medium sized contacts to make this happen

Very true. If SY was drafting better after the 1st round and had more tangible assets a big trade could happen. Or those later round draft gems would be adding great depth and more compete to the roster. So far nah. So far he is adding 1st rounders to the system and UFAs, not going to get over the hump anytime soon.

I really hope Kane returns, but I kind of don't think he will. I can't see Raymond NOT coming back and Mo is a huge part of the team, too. No matter what happens, I can't wait to see how it goes! 🤞

Give Kane 4 years and let retire in Detroit, in my mind that's going to be a contract you don't regret. 88 will be back in form soon.

Seider and Raymond are the core 2.0, they will be signed longterm. Kane and some others will not get longterm offers. IF…. Yzerman has some UFA’s in mind, he could give 4, 5, or 6 yrs to them, at a reasonable price. A pool of talented prospects (Core 3.0), will make others expendable, and they’ve got cheap contracts. So…. KEEPING IN MIND that Yzerman has a plan, a war chest, and flexibility. 2.0 get serious raises and 5 to 8 yrs, 6 to 7 M. Kane wants to stay and play at a high level. He’s easily worth 5 M, will he finish his career here, while pushing for a Stanley Cup? Highly talented Prospects with cheap contracts are forming Core 3.0. Yzerman is building a juggernaut that can win Cups. Period. And there’s the…. Draft, how will he use it to his advantage? Oh the opportunities…. GO WINGS!!

I always wanted Raymond to stay over Kane, how many great players would they have to let go to afford Kane?
@paulwt9783
@paulwt9783 19 күн бұрын
? Raymond isn't a free agent, him and Seider are "restricted" free agents (RFAs), meaning not actual free agents. Their entry level contracts are up. They get extensions unless talks go badly wrong somehow. So there is no choosing between Raymond and Kane or Raymond and anyone. Also, Kane despite being 35yo w a fake hip last year was better than Lucas Raymond by just about every metric and analytic. If you want to see the difference between them go look up the numbers of the Larkin-Cat lines featuring each of them. The difference between the numbers of the two lines = the difference between the two players last year. And the answer to your last question is none, bc all the team's other good players would already be signed by the time Kane was negotiated with.
@jennifermorris9985
@jennifermorris9985 19 күн бұрын
@@paulwt9783that's not how that works. Theres other factors in play when the lines change besides the abilities of the 2 players. Like Raymond facing a much higher QoC than Kane.

Raymond will get paid regardless of Kane re-signing or not
@paulwt9783
@paulwt9783 19 күн бұрын
@@jennifermorris9985 Why would Raymond face a much higher quality of competition on that line than Kane? When the line was Kane Cat Larkin, trust me, opponents were sending their best defensive matchups at it.
@jennifermorris9985
@jennifermorris9985 19 күн бұрын
@paulwt9783 literally, the stats are there, you can look them up in PuckIQ. Raymond spent 39% of his TOI against elites, Kane was at 29.3%. Also, the Raymond-Larkin-Cat line had a 2.81 xGF/60 and 2.75 xGA/60 compared to Kane-Larkin-Cat which had a 2.56 xGF/60 and a 2.84/60 xGA/60 per Moneypuck. So your statement that the line was better with Kane on it "by every metric" is false anyways.

He cost the Red Wings with penalties down the stretch because he was to slow had to grab or hook the other player from getting past him. I would bring him back at 1mil for 1 year and he playing on three line.
