I'm still with Yzerman. I know he's pouring his heart and soul into making the team better and making the decisions he thinks is best. I feel that the signings have been pretty low risk/short term deals. Unfortunately it means he probably doesn't see that many NHL players who are developing within the next 3 years that are already in the system. So either he has to overpay in free agency (which wasn't worth it, maybe next year) or build from within which takes years to develop and a little bit of luck that the drafted guys pan out. I also like how he has targeted signing players within the Red Wings age group (for the most part) and these have been players who were first round picks so I know that somewhere within their fan base there are fans who are like "ugh why didn't we give him a chance" - just like when someone of ours (ie Zadina) doesn't work out.

Doubtful the moves have anything to do with the development of prospects. Outside of Compher at 5 years, most of the deals are for a year. Kasper and Mazur could both probably play right now if SY wanted them to. Lombardi looks like he’s only a year away. Edvinsson and Johansson are probably in the same boat as Kasper and Mazur on the defensive side. Bringing in Sprong, Gost and Fischer on 1 year deals just allows him the flexibility to not rush anyone in.

@@jchristner82 Kasper and Mazur are probably the only forwards with a chance to make the team out of camp. Edvinsson will be based off how quickly he gets into shape from his injury, and will likely need a conditioning stint in GR. Soderblom is really a wildcard. Cleary kind of made it sound like he could have tried harder working on areas that were asked of him. Bigger guys usually take more time to develop. Johansson looked to be NHL ready last year and would have been called up over Edvinsson if it wasn’t for his injury. We are bloated at defense right now, but it’ll start taking shape next season.

Spot on DMac. SY is precisely executing his GM duties in a manner consistent with how Scotty executed his coaching philosophy. It will not happen overnight. It took Scotty 2 years to convince SY to play both ends of the rink and when he did, look what happened. This was probably SY's most valuable hockey lesson. He is simply setting the team up for future success in the same manner Scotty taught him.

Cossa might be ready to dominate the NHL next season. If so, that would be awesome, but we shouldn't count on it. The worst thing that we could do is rush him into the NHL before he is ready. So they should (and I am confident that they will) evaluate where he is at in next year's training camp, and if he is not ready for the NHL yet at that time, then they should give him more time in Grand Rapids. It's not the end of the world if that happens. Goalies take longer to develop than skaters. I don't care how long it takes Cossa to get to Detroit, I only care about how good he will be when he gets here.

Time clock is Cossa. These pickups are to give current young players and the future prospects the ability to play with veteran accountability. Play defense and learn how to be effective on the PP and PK. These 1,2,3,5 yr contracts are set for the timing of the team and getting into the playoffs. Big splash signings do nothing if the farm isnt full 5 to 7yrs from now. Look at Toronto 2 top tier lines that dont forecheck and make up 3/4s the cap, 2 bottom lines with 700k to 900k players trying to keep up and new netminders every year.

Holland was a pacifier - when he got the job - it was because there was a serious rift within the organization between Scotty Bowman and Bryan Murray . Those two were having a hard time co-existing and so they put an ambassador type - to settle the situation down - until ultimately Scotty won out - and Bryan Murray moved on. Jim Nill was responsible for drafts and finding talent and they traded away all their draft picks in those days - so he found other ways to find talent - he did a fantastic job - was a huge loss but he had more than earned his shot and he got it - same with Yzerman

Thank you for the explanation. I wouldn't get too excited about a one-time improvement of five wins. What does get me excited is that every year since hitting rock-bottom in 2019-20, our winning percentage has improved (and I look at percentage rather than win total to account for the fact that two of these seasons were not full 82 game schedules). That sort of consistent improvement shows that the Yzerplan is working.

If we get Debrincat there's little left for free agency next year. 37 million projected in cap Debrincats contract at probably 8, mo at 8x8, Raymond on a bridge deal 3x5.25, Berggren2x3 if he isn't sent in the debrincat deal, and Rasmussen 2x3. That's 27.25 against 37 so we have 9.75 but little roster space even if we don't sign anyone and graduate Edvinsson, Kasper, and Mazur full time. Bye to Perron, Kubalik, Sprong, Ghost, and Reimer. If Fischer is a good fit, bring him back. Prices will go up however with the cap going up so not many 1 year deals and nobody will be had on the cheap. This is where Holl, copp, and Chiarot will be rough to stomach. 13.7 for guys that were necessary but really won't be then. They're better than, but not by much, the heavily mentioned howard, abby, and Nielson for the same cap in terms of value vs relevance/production When those contracts come off the books, we'll have to get Edvinsson and Kasper new deals, Raymond will need a 2nd raise if we don't go long term but the guy to watch at that time will be Justin Robertson in free agency

BTW: McCarthy saying "The man simply comes out and tells you what his game plan is"- well thats the problem ya dope(love you too Darren but I felt that was the appropriate word after hearing you say that)! After another underwhelming draft Stevie tries to save face and immediately says "we are still in rebuilding mode" HIS FREAKIN WORDS! Im like OK cool we're still in rebuilding mode, he learned from last offseason perplexing, mistake of a shopping spree so that can be forgiven and we do the logical thing from now out aka gonna play the kids and try to get a lottery pick that we desperately(we missed out on Michkov and Leonard BY ONE PICK) need as a franchise next season(kind of what we should have done last offseason!) But what does Stevie do immediately after making that statement?? He goes on another ill-advised and downright BONEHEADED shopping spree and gives us Chariot 2.0, Copp 2.0 and another bunch of loose change. Somebody check Stevie's health because either he's losing it or he's taking orders from Holland because its mind boggling what's going on here and as a hardcore fan its sickening at this point how we just spend 1/4th of our cap the next 3+ seasons on 2 DMEN who cant play D and 2 centers who cant score! please jump off ASAP - your delusional - there are 31 other teams in the NHL - if Steve Y - became available tonight - about 25 of those teams would seriously consider firing who they have to hire him by this weekend - that is who he is as a GM . He was asked to run team Canada twice - they don't give that to people who they are on the fence about . like I said - you are welcome to your opinion - please - go watch the columbus blue jackets all you want

The wings are mediocre at best. Is there a goal scorer on the team? Anyone who can hit 40 goals a year, 50 is just too much to ask. Darren wants a team of 10 to 20 goal scorers, and says shame on you for wanting more. What we have is half a team and until we get a few good players on the team might as well quit

Vegas top goal scorer had 28 goals. They are team full of 15-20 goal scorers. they won the cup. Toronto and Edmonton have a few big scorers. How did that work out for them?

Biggest Yzerman mistake might have been holding onto Blashill too long lmfao.

@@jacobhakim1889 Lol they should have fired Blashill after 2018-19 or 2019-20 at the latest.

@@JHockeyFan why? The team is still garbage. The team was still garbage with a new coach this oast season. Other then having a lil bit of upgraded players and getting an extra grand total of what? 6 more points than last season

Yzerman knows what a cup winner needs to look like. However I seriously question the ability of the scouting staff to deliver the talent. Red wings scouting staff is a grind line echo chamber. Does this scouting staff know what high end talent looks like. Lucas Raymond is looking like a terrible pick as was pretty much every pick in the holland years.
