Just want to say I'm really enjoying these updates as you work through everything on this 453T. Lots of people don't take the time to track progress like this. And who doesn't like hearing a loaded detroit putting in work?

@@kencannuck Many years ago (mid 1980s), when I was in engineering school, we went on a tour of the Canadian Foremost plant in Calgary. They made all kinds of custom equipment and everything they made had 71 series Detroits installed. I asked our guide why they didn't use Cummins or Cat and the answer was that you could be anywhere in the world and find a mechanic who could fix a Detroit. First, those are solid numbers, and the cleaner burn is evident with the lack of smoke! I have said it before, especially with the engine that's in your Super Duty: those engines sound so much like the one in my old Army unit: The 8V92. They made great power; driving an M1075 PLS, the 10×10 trucks with a curb weight of 54,000 pounds. Love your work, sir!

Man that turbo just sings! Reminds me of a commercial fishing boat I worked on a few years ago here on the coast, it had a 1979 Mitsubishi 6D16T 7.5L, the turbo had nothing but a steel mesh screen and the engine covers didnt have any sound deadening material left so you could really hear it scream while underway, especially when we were loaded full of Salmon :)

I wonder if a waste-gated turbo would be beneficial? Seems like boost falls off with any drop in RPM. Although I'm not sure how well the increased drive pressure when the waste gate clamps down to keep boost up would work with the 2 stroke scavenging.
@detroitgarage94302 күн бұрын
I’m going to try my K27 on this engine, I have the waste gate set to 30 PSI.: Ran it as a compound in my truck with a Silver 4-53T. K27/K31, removed them for a custom single, injectors were on large enough to make use of the K31.:)
@timbo197519752 күн бұрын
If drive is any amount over intake pressure , then you're likely to get reverse flow back into the cylinder ( unplanned egr ) completely what you don't want on a 2 stroke.

I think if you are adding 20hp as a correction factor, you should also be adding 40 lb*ft. The fan and pump are stealing torque and therefore horsepower. It doesn't make sense to add to one and nor the other to me.

Ditch the correction factor. It's just easier to keep it simple. What is the correction factor giving you? A real but slightly inflated output but for what purpose? All it does is complicate the mind and make NO difference to the price of fish (I'm giving my age away with that reference). Free yourself from the meaningless mental gymnastics and just use the gauges with the engine as dressed, OR alternatively you could use an external waterpump (powered by a battery) and remove the engine fan and use a blower for the radiator and intercooler (but then you'd be correcting the other way). Seems like a waste of money at the expense of mental angst either way LOL. Just sayin'...
