Arabian music is based on what is called "Maqamat" (plural), "Maqam" (singular), or scales there are seven major Maqams and for each one there are many branches.. so you can start off by googling "Maqam" and see where that takes you.... =)

Misirlou is such an iconic song. It was played all around the Mediterranean Sea.
@nikosnikolaou74196 жыл бұрын
Yes it's an original Greek song dating the 1873 from the thriving Greek community of Cairo speaking about a legendary girl from Egypt that the singer praised her exotic beauty and he want to still her from Africa!

The song IS Greek. Originally it was intended to adhere to an "eastern-like" sound, because it was fashionable by then. It also talks about some exotic, oriental woman , possibly Egyptian, Arabic, or Turkish. That's the whole point of the tune sounding oriental-like. There might have been an egyptian song that some people claim has perhaps more primacy, which may have inspired the original composer, but if you listen to it, it sounds nothing like misirlou. BUT this version just gives it the tone it would have had if it were really really genuinely arab/mid-eastern... sounds amazing!
@innosanto6 жыл бұрын
Dimitris M Papadakis the first Greek version was less eastern sounding. Then a second Greek more eastern sounding version was a bigger hit. Anyway the Greek song was talking about falling in love with an Egyptian woman.

LANTZOI LANTZOI it’s a Greek song but it’s a Greek take on Arabic music because the name Misirlou means Egypt, and it wasn’t 100% Arabic, it was a Greek-Arabic fusion until George Abdo made this fully Arabian version of it using all Arabic instruments..
Lovely!! Even though it's a lot faster then the Greek original song.! I read a few comments here and lets not all forget the Greeks and Arabs shared music and instruments in the past
@halisyinanc16528 жыл бұрын
lets not forget it is due to their common history under the rule of the ottomans. otherwise how the hell on earth a greek would think this arabic melody is originally greek? :)

maya9345 please google the ottoman empire's map in their time and see how an interaction can take place within its borders. I am also saying it is arabic but not greek in any way. the connection is the empire that they were both ruled by, once in history.
@sorinichim47377 жыл бұрын
I don't need to do that because I know from school ! By the way did you know that romanian ruler Dimitrie Cantemir was the first to put ottoman songs into musical notes ? He was a true schoolar guy wich served the sultan court before he become the Moldavian Ruler !

[ Egyptian girl ] or [ Ya Amal ] is an arabic song composed by *Sayed Darwish in 1916* . in 1927 there was a Greek rebetiko composition of this song influenced by Middle-Eastern music under the name *Misirlou* . There are also traditional Arabic *belly dancing* , Jewish *klezmer* , *Armenian* and *Turkish* versions of the song ....
