September is Black Reading Month encourages people to turn off the TV, read Black authors

September is Black Reading Month, an observance that began in Detroit in 1980, celebrates its 45th anniversary this year.
The month-long observance encourages readers to explore literary works by Black authors. In recent years, it has expanded beyond Detroit with activities and celebrations now reaching other states and even international communities.
Host Stephen Henderson talks with September is Black Reading Month Co-Founder Malik Yakini about the observance's history and literacy issues in America.
Plus, Yakini and Henderson recommend some books to read written by Black authors.

Why is there no White reading month? Why is there no Kids reading month? Seem a bit racist to me. 🤬

The concept is asking people to support Black Authors. NOT just Black people reading. EVERYONE is welcome to read books by Black Authors!

The month of March is National Reading Month. Why not promote everyone to read black authors? Your way of thinking pushes aside the white readers. As a “white “ person, I read books from a rainbow of authors. Bookstores in general are difficult to find, let alone a bookstore owned by a black individual.
