So as someone who has done plenty of heads and head gaskets on my deuce. That high compression ration pushes coolant and oil right out between the block and head. It tends to fail between 3 and 4. The divide between the heads.

Some of the older multi-fuel compression engine had a knob to open the exhaust valves on the engine taking care of the hydrolock. I only saw it on a museum duece and a half. From the Korean war era.

We had 2 of those in my unit not to many years ago. They were tanks without turrets. We mainly used them for drivers training and received replacements for them but those motor pool guys managed to keep two around and running for years after.

BC I lived in Houston, Texas almost 30 years after I ETS out of the US Army. We had several areas around town that would flood bad after a few days of rain after the ground was saturated and it had no where to go. One place was in front of my Apartment complex on Fondren Ave in SW part of town. My Apt was high enough to keep me dry but Fondren would flood too deep to drive. Well there were several cars stopped before the low part of the road and a Houston METRO City Bus came by and just plowed through the water, no problem. A woman driving a Pontiac Fiero decided that well, If a Bus can make it then so can I. She decides to follow the Bus. Haha.....most hilarious thing I ever saw on the road. You know the Fiero is shaped like a Submarine diving plane, right? She drives into the deep water.....the wedge shape of the front buries the front end in the water. The engine is in the rear so when it stalls the empty front end rises to the surface like the empty ballast chamber it is. Haha Lucky for her 4 guys were wiling to walk into the water to push her out. Silly humans.

I had a vortex 5.7 hydro lock on me a few years ago. The regulator under the upper intake popped loose and flooded two cylinders. It busted the starter bolts off it the block, they had to be drilled out and helicoiled

In fact I just bought my dads 96 Chevy from him and it was hydro locked when I got it. Upper intake and fuel injectors were removed, and we turned the key on to roll the windows down, steer it into a trailer and again to roll the windows up but didn’t pull the fuel pump relay so it flooded the back two cylinders. After I cleaned the top of the engine and turned it over to make sure it wasn’t seized (sat two years) I discovered it was hydro locked with fuel. Fun times. Runs like new now though.

An old Marine told me about doing Beach Landings on( can't remember but it held six deuce and a half) they had the snorkels on the top was off the hand throttles pulled out there was in low gear and you would steer with your feet and your hands were on the windshield top,,,, he was third in line the last the first two dropped off and didn't come up the second 2 dropped off and didn't come up and then they flagged him and he stayed on the landing craft,,,,, anyway that repositioned and un loaded the last two deuce half on the beach and nobody got weekend leave they spent the weekend winch out the other 4 deuce and a half,,,, ckesn engine drained all the fluids take allthe wheels off and regrease the lug nuts,,,,, he said it was a b**** and the winches on those old trucks have had a Brass sherr key that kept Sheeran off and they were practically worthless,,,,,,, anyway they spent the entire weekend on the beach Camp Pendleton pulling these trucks off the bottom of the ocean and getting them running again, ,,,,,

I hydrolocked a Camaro MANY years ago. Talk about some force when the water comes out the injector hole!! Another tip, change the oil many times frequently after hydrolocking an engine. Any water that got by can contaminate the oil and cause damage later on.

Ok so what would happen if you found yourself in deep water situation and the intake port for the air compressor becomes submerged. I have seen videos of people driving in water with the hood almost completely underwater, what adverse effect does that have on the air pack and associated equipment?

There are adapter plates and bell housings that can be used but in cases where a much more powerful engine is being swapped in it's best to upgrade the transmission as well.

I don't know for sure, but it's sounding like the original transmissions have the standardized SAE bellhousing patterns (1, 2, 3, 4)...which makes engine swaps easy.

Thankfully I didn't hydrolock my 1996 Toyota Tacoma 3.4L V-6 driving through all those flooded roads in Hialeah/Miami and Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood when I was living there. Those roads don't have no ditches or good drainage because of the flat at sea level Terrain so the water piles up even after a heavy thunderstorm or rain shower. Hurricanes and Tropical Storms forget it! lol I'm lucky that's for sure

If everything is working correctly there shouldn't be an issue regardless of the time the pump ran. The problem is that our trucks are old and things don't work 100% as they should some times. You may not have an issue at all after an hour of the the pump running or 10 min could be an issue. Just follow the starting procedure and hope for the best.

Several engines will bolt up to the stock trans but may need a bell housing swap. Fyi the Deuces Spicer transmission isn't rated for much more power than the stock engine puts out so if you're adding a ton of power you'll need a new transmission as well.
