Nerdy: “I was too sensitive to be around people. Granted, I’m an older and an wiser man. Some would say I’m more calloused emotionally. So I’m hopeful I’ll do better this time.” 12 minutes later, Nerdy was in tears xD Man. As someone who’s never played the games before. I was a leaky mess. I was angry, shocked, and numb. I paused the video for about an hour. Called my dad (we’re both Active Duty Army.). Had a long convo about when you should disobey orders as a soldier. Came back, unpaused the video. The screen fades to black and says 20 years later. Paused the video again. Cussed out the tv, hugged my dog, bought the game, and then finished the episode. Hell of a journey.

My only critic is that I feel like this episode didn't really give the audience time to process it the same way the game did by having the opening credits happen right after, which really gave us a moment to let the heartbreak sink-in and to (kinda) digest it. The show decided to put the title sequence earlier and just jump straight into 20 years later, which I feel undercuts that BIG moment a little too much.... But, then again, I can see how that may be a deliberate choice: we the audience aren't given time to process it, in the same way that they're perhaps implying that Joel, in the last two decades, hasn't really processed it either. Effective, but I feel, not quite as effective as the game in that respect. Otherwise, I REALLY enjoyed this episode! That scene in the car was done SO GOOD.

I'm so impressed with everything about this show already. The games are works of art and you can tell how much care went into getting the same vibe thats usually lost in video game adaptations because you're no longer in control of what happens in stressful scenes.

1:54 Neil Druckmann said the original concept for The Last of Us was inspired by a David Attenborough clip of Cordyceps taking over multiple small critters. Marlene's actress is the only actor to reprise their specific role from the game. The radio operator voiced Tommy in the game, and Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson are confirmed to have small roles in later episodes. Sarah's played by Thandiwe Newton's daughter, who definitely has got a future. The Austin, TX street scenes were filmed in Fort MacCleod, Alberta, Canada.

The " we are not sick " part was anticlimactic. In the game it was much more REAL .... also i cant feel sad if i see how they race swap for the sake of WOKENESS. And it's always replacing a white character with a non white one. How about we start replacing non white characters with white characters`? This anti white racism starts to piss me off. The boy who would be infected brought me a double flashback to The Walking Dead. Firstly, she looked like Lizzie and secondly, she reminded me of Sophia when she stepped out of the barn. I think the similar clothing and camera work caused that in me. I think that was intentional and a subliminal reference to the walking dead. I played part 1 and 2 4 times each and I had no problems to get along with all the cast characters immediately. And I was really skeptical. This series is going to be great. By the way, Marlene from the game is played here by Marlene from the video game. Other actors from the game got different roles. Troy Baker (Joel) will play a henchman of David and Ashley Johnson will play Elli's mother, which is especially epic.

I can't comment on it as an adaptation because I haven't played the games, BUT - either way, this was a masterpiece of an episode. Writing, Acting, and especially Direction/Cinematography. You can tell so many shots were lifted directly from the games. Just freaking gorgeous.

I played the game, I watched let's plays, I know some of the lines by heart. I know Pedro Pascal since Game of Thrones and Bella Ramsey stole every scene she was in as Lyanna Mormont, so I knew these two would kill it. However, I was not prepared for Nico. I was not prepared for how much more time they would give us with her, how much we would care about her in such a short time. When Joel says "Tommy help me!" I was gone. I was sobbing so hard I had to pause it and walk around the house for a minute while I calmed myself down. And then, when we saw the soldier tell the child he would get all the food and toys he wanted, my tears started again because I KNEW he was gonna die. THIS SHOW DESTROYED THE LAST OF ME

The insect fungus is real (it isn't just ants), but some other stuff was exaggerated. The whole comment about fungi needing warmer temperatures isn't true; fungi easily infect humans already. We have treatments that work depending on fungal species and severity of infection, but it is harder to treat fungal infections. Lastly, there already exists a non-fungal infectious organism that alters mammal behavior including humans, Toxoplasmosis.

Just to reassure Clarus...yes, organisms can mutate and jump to another species. I'm not entirely sure how often parasitic fungi mutate this way, however. Additionally, even with bacteria and viruses, they tend to be very highly adapted to specific species and if mutations occur they are random. For a mutation to make bacteria/viruses compatible with another species, that other species would need to be fairly similar to the original species the micro-organism was adapted to. The most dissimilar species of animal from which disease can spread to humans is birds (avian flu). Mostly it is other mammals, particularly other primates. The chance that the cordyceps fungi in the real world would mutate sufficiently to jump from insects to human beings is vanishingly small.

Speaking as someone who's certainly heard of the game and how great it is, but hasn't played it, I'm happy to watch along with you guys, as long as, yeah, you keep your promise to keep the videos spoiler-free -- which this video was, as far as I'm concerned (aside from comments about what happens in the current episode, which is of course fine). Aside from maybe one thing that happens at the end of the season (game), I think I know absolutely nothing about what happens. From what I've read in a few articles, it seems like the intentions of the showrunners are to actually minimize the violence as much as possible and focus on the stories of the characters. So I imagine we'll see a lot of that DLC content you mentioned.

They adapted the beginning this game so perfectly. It really gave me hope for the rest of the season... And as far as them adapting the DLC flashbacks, Storm Reid has been confirmed to be playing Riley and is in some of the promo artwork for the show.
