Tom, that´s exactly why we all follow you. you are a kind man, caring for the animals living on your farm. you gave Dave a chance to carry on even if he is a little bull. Industrial farming would not have bothered. Thanks for showing everybody that farming is about the life on the farm.

I remember the other calf that broke his leg and you chose to cast the leg with great results. Your vets and staff do such excellent work. Yes, costs have to be taken into consideration, but obviously, this does work and is so uplifting for everyone involved. Prayers for Jo’s return to great health. 🙏❤

Awww Bless Dave, I absolutely adorable your encouragement as you're chatting to him. He may not understand english, but i bet he understands the energy! I'm so glad you chose to help him. Especially you can see him not struggling when the cast is coming off- he knows! All the calves are so cute, i don't know how you don't spend all day in the shed watching them run around cutely. I hope Jo is OK and back home soon ! What a stressful time for you

You had a c-section on the farm last year too where you showed the process. I've been watching you for about 4 years now and those are the only c-sections I've seen, which I think is a testament to the care you and the whole Pemberton's team take and put into raising your cattle. How long do you need to discard mum's milk for after something like this Tom?

It is very evident that you really care about your animals and you care *for them. Hard to think that blue blanket was so big on Dave just 5 weeks earlier, lol. I have always wondered how a C-section is done on large animals. I know the incision is done on the side, but I still wonder how the guts don't fall out. Hope Joe is doing better❤and is home soon 🤗Hugs to You All

The difference between knowledge (a la 2024 vets) and lack of knowledge (a la 1904 vets -- guessing the yr!) is also a big factor. When my Grandpa was a boy on a farm, most likely they'd have lost one or both lives OR if both lives were initially saved, the calf having a broken leg would have been clubbed or shot to death (sorry for graphic description!). How far we've come with understanding of health and value of farm animals. Then you need farmers like Tom who says "we like to give 'em a chance!" Well done! All the best to Jo!

I love that you have continued to show great animal husbandry! The explanation as to why you chose to not own a mechanical calf puller was interesting. Then explaining why you chose to call the vet, separating the calf while deciding to cast the leg and milking mom out and tubing the baby with the colostrum as a standard were all interesting! Thanks for the lessons learned. God bless and may the health of your family begin to make great strides.
