Here in Queensland Australia, we milked 280 plus twice a day,( with a further 30 or so springers) with a double pulsating system. But only had 8 bails. So it took a few hours to get them all through. But LOVED it. ( the best childhood, growing up on a dairy farm)

I think you should consider the new parlour with the cows exiting front out That way the cows exit much more quickly saving a load of time

Would be nice, but to do that you need a really wide shed to have the room and we don’t. If we were going brand new it’s something to consider, but it’s also another thing that can break, gates are pretty simple 🤷

Yep I know what you mean, however he didn’t actually shock it, he was using as more of a stick (I watched it a couple of times as I knew someone might pick it up). He’s an excellent stock man, he’s transported a lot of my stock and he’s honestly one of the best, takes his time and is patient. I don’t like the prodder too much, but it’s handy at times.

He doesn't zap them much, he uses it as more of a stick unless he has too

@@TheOnceADayFarmer it doesn’t matter if he zaps them or not the cows come to recognise it automatically and they panic. I use a piece of inch round blue pipe about 4 feet long and if I walk in the fields with it they automatically start moving where I want them.. I am the same with horses and crops or spurs there is just no need to have them as horses also respond to other aids.. even my sheep come running for what is essentially an almost empty bag of sheep pellets because they get used to the sound of the bag.. essay over now..

That’s the mis conception, if I were to milk them TAD I wouldn’t necessarily do any more production, and then they would be walking more so more lameness, heat stress and repro rates would probably get a bit worse. I don’t want to milk TAD, and we are farming a system that works, jerseys do adapt to OAD pretty well. We are actually doing more now than dad was milking 2x, all though we are feeding more so hard to compare. Great point though and one to make a video about 👌👍

Yes im feeling another payrisr from fonterra sometime in late january early February. Just went through me emails. Last 9 auctions going back to mid august 6 were up, 2 down and 1 unchanged. Whole milk powder was $ 2548 in mid August, now $3207 a 25.9% increase since August 15th. So hopefully steady increases even at 1-3% over january 😊😊 And I want another 50 cents 😅 I dont ask for much ..😂

Usually carry 20-25% replacements so have to make room for them every year. Say 8-10% will be empty So 10-25% culls

If you do a upgrade on a pad for the truck check with your milk company to there requirements,I have been in construction for a lot of years and am now retired but have projected manage from earth works to finish on dairy sheds, you guys don’t need any surprises after completing, hope this is helpful all the best going forward merry Christmas to all

Suites our system. We are low input low output and don’t see a reduction in production milking OAD compared to TAD for us 👍

Unfortunately No is the answer as the cows need to be milked even on public holidays Christmas Day Boxing day New Years day Day after New years day Auckland anniversary day Waitangi day Good Friday Easter Sunday Easter Monday Kings Birthday Matariki Day all the holidays some of which I have mentioned all dairy farmers are still working even on sundays still milking for some of them as some operate all year.
