Sadhguru says a beautiful thing about questioning (since i don't remember the exact words, i am trying to portray the meaning), it should not be to put down the other or having already decided on something but should come out of curiosity. Devdutt hit the nail on the head when he said you are not curious instead judgemental. Therefore, if Shoma conducts an interview even the day after, she will still have the same questions. The whole point of a debate is to change our views if the other person can convince us. This is lacking in all our discussions. Both the parties have their views and are hell bent not to be convinced. Further, Devdutt makes a clear distinction between ill-informed interpretation and informed interpretations

I am not sure on what basis the interviewer is saying different classes of society did not have access to bodies of knowledge. Basaveshwara spread vedic knowledge to masses. In Karnataka people from all castes have written highly philosophical works. Ramanuja and Madhwacharya initiated lower caste people as brahmins. Kanakadasa was a Shepard, Sarvajna was from lower caste. A beggar on the street defeated Adi Shankara in philosophical argument. Vidyaranya, a brahmin helped hakka and bukka establish Vijayanagar empire but they were Shepherds.... every village will have one such story to tell.. But you won't know it by swallowing some communist garbage and puking it in public...

adarsha rao she doesn’t need basis apparently, the entire interview process seems to suggest, she has just browsed through some criticisms of Hinduism and didn’t make an effort to do any research, because she agreed with that side of the argument... seeking validation for one’s prejudices is what media has been reduced to today...

Every knowledge system has levels. For example only a person with PHD can become a professor, or a person with a medical degree can become a Doctor. Hinduism also followed a similar system the level of knowledge a person receives is based on his character (guna), his actions (karma) and his other qualifications. This was never to be controlled based on a persons birth. As long as spiritual level was high this was a no brainer. Once ego started taking greater importance than the soul then the inappropriate restrictions crept in.

I know Devdutt to be extremely accommodating and polite. He is usually very humble about his intellect. Not one prone to so harshly dispelling people of their idiocy. In the age of #metoo, this looks like a man abusing a woman, but just like Hinduism, there are nuances. That she is an opinionated journalist and editor (Tehelka) who has in the past written articles in the past on religion that had a very anti Hindu flavor, to appease her Lutyens set. He is also a scholar from Delhi, deeply passionate about all things religion and mythology. She tried to increase her profile on his coattails, by cornering him into her narrative and he reacted. He comes from curiosity and she comes with an agenda. I think part of the anger is also that it is clear to him that her positions are deliberately conflagratory, especially for a person of intelligence.

Dharma is the natural law. It comes from satvik guna which balances both rajas and tamasic guna. Dharma is beyond ego identity. It is the reason why dharma cannot be classified as right or wrong. Only an egoistic mind gets caught in the opposites not dharmic mind. Dharma = no karma = moksha

Okay, so the host is asking historic questions to a mythologist. The caste system was brought in during colonization. That's why he compares the hierarchy with the access to BiBle. Until then we were provinces and tribes who had their own hierarchy. Following on Mahabharat or Ramayana was before all these colonies and mediaeval hierarchy system.

She is doing her job, don't be hard on her because of Tarun Tejpal- that man did wrong got his dues. She is asking queries so as Hindu we get a chance to express ourselves - who we are and let the world know. Its a process of discovery for me as well as a Hindu as I resonate with DEVDUTT's idea and proud to be a Hindu. To that extent she did a good job and to Devdutt many thanks for making me identify with myself as a Hindu and take pride in myself

The answer to shoma chaoudhry's question about caste system and sections of people not having access to education, etc. is easy.. 1. The society in the vedic age infact before the reign of the Gupta's was free from this social evil of caste. But at the time of the Gupta's it emerged and it was patronized and propagated by men of power. Thus over a period of time it became a sad reality of our society. It is just the same way as in today powerful people propagate their agenda using media houses, newspapers, social media, and over a period of time people start to believe things which are not good. So the present form of caste was a derivative of abuse of power by the privileged class. 2. About people having no access to education is again obvious if someone understands my first argument. If someone is going to be educated, if he will read the scriptures which talk about dharm, karma, devotion, empathy, etc. How are the people who are trying to suppress them will get success. If you want to suppress someone he should not be aware of anything then only whatever he will be told he will accept. So all in all it is very simple... As some people with wisdom tried to accept all forms of life with love and compassion , people like mahavira, buddha, great vedic sages, who tried to make the socity a better place, there were also people who were ambitious, and wanted to always keep people below their thumb. The thing is hindu dharma is the most liberal religion that ever existed. It allowed every other religion to sink in and share whatever good both have. The problem lies with the people who talk about it. It is the people who in order to secure their place of privilege present things in a way that suits their interests rather than what is required to be told.

If I was in her place I would have gone on a tirade and indicated to him to hand over the mic momentarily so the man can have a sip of water. This is uncomfortable and she should have helped him out. That is Dharma.
