A little bit of concept and technique in a simple language, seasoned with narratives of how I came about as a film beginner of film photography.
The practical part of film development is not hard. What I found the most challenging as a film photography newcomer years ago is the lack of a comprehensive walkthrough. Back then, exact practical walkthroughs were available.
The problem was that they didn’t entirely suit my situation. Without any conceptual understanding, I then got stuck working out variables to suit my situation. Or, I could find plentiful theory, but the practical aspect was so vague, it made me scratched my head over some details moving forward.
Having that experience, I have made a series of video dealing with both conceptual and practical aspects of film development. I’m not sure how much would apply to other options besides what I’ve used--Kodak’s D76/D72, Rollei’s C41, and an indie film lab’s BW/Color kit that’s a local-only.
At least the math should be universal, especially the formula to calculate how much powder or concentrate is needed for a specific amount of working solution at a time without turning everything into working solution which is normally the instruction default that results in reduced shelf life.
Have fun!
