JICA aims to create an inclusive and sustainable society in which all people can meaningfully participate with equity regardless of their gender, age, culture, social and economic status and disability.
As a part to achieve this, JICA has started a co-creation program with HERALBONY Co., Ltd. since April 2024. With "Radiate your Color" as the company’s mission, HERALBONY manages the licensing of art data created by artists, primarily those with intellectual disabilities, both in Japan and internationally, while expanding a variety of businesses. HERALBONY and JICA aim to transform the image of disability in Japan and developing countries to realize a society where people with and without disabilities can live their lives in their own way.
In August 2024, JICA invited officials from developing countries to Japan and conducted a knowledge co-creation program on the theme of ‘Promotion of Social Participation of Persons with Disabilities through Sports’. During the program, participants visited the Lumbini Art Museum in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, where they interacted with artists contracted by HERALBONY, as well as related parties at HERALBONY’s head office in Morioka City. After the explanations of Lumbini Art Museum and HERALBONY’s initiatives, the participants actively exchanged views on efforts towards art activities and social participation by people with disabilities.
JICA will continue to work in collaboration with various partners in developing countries and in Japan to realize a society where each and every individual can shine.
