Is it practical to use it for blacksmithing like heating up iron rods and stuff?

I guess you could it for that, but there is better options out there. I know that Devilforge also makes furnaces for that exact purpose..

Howdy. I too have jumped on the MV band wagon. I got my furnace this past Saturday. Took 6 days to get it..... remarkable. Do you coat... remedy.....cure (whatever it's called) your graphite crucibles with borax?
@johannesthe5th1543 жыл бұрын
Hello Emporer 😊 I don’t coat. The remaining copper, brass is easy to scrape out after a melt. The only thing I coat with borax is when I smelt gold or silver in the small white crusibles. It prevents the material to stick.
@613atl3 жыл бұрын
@@johannesthe5th154 I tried to remedy a 4kg one... what a cluster f***! I dunno if it's even useable now. Reckon I'll use it for aluminum. I bought this primarily for melting scrap sheet copper my wife generates in her enameled jewelry making. She can then run it through her rolling mill. In addition. I have a lot of once fired brass I wanna melt.

I want to ask as a beginner. what gas do you use? oxygen gas? LPG gas for cooking in the kitchen? acitelin gas?

gema gembul I’m using standard propane gas for this furnace. The burner pipe provides natural air intake which can be regulated.

Thanks for the review! I'm now a new subscriber! Question, did you get the 4kg crucible/furnace directly from Devil_Forge? I checked their website and the smallest was the 7kg version, like they didn't even sell it (the 4kg version) 🤔. The 4kg looks exactly like the size I need.... thank you to anyone who can help me find one 🙏.

What size crucible and where did you get it? I’m about to purchase a devil forge but can’t decide between the 4kg or 10kg. Are you happy with this one or wish it was bigger?
@johannesthe5th1544 жыл бұрын
FlexedOut 4kg is the max size for the fire chamber. It can pour around 2kg of molten copper or brass. (Crucibles are measured in how much molten kg gold will fit) Im happy with my furnace size. I’m not accumulating crazy amounts of metal too melt, and crucibles gets more expensive the bigger they are. On average mine lasts around 15-20 times before they crumble.

I once tried to melt something that I thought was copper. It was just copper coated iron. It took ALOT of energy to just get it to start sparkling. I think a bigger more insulated furnace would do a better job. Maybe with a double burner would also be better. But I’m just guessing. I only tried the 4kg furnace. CNN I know that you tuber “bigstacked” did a steel melt some time ago. Maybe you can find that video for further information. :) Stamps can be bought cheap on amazon and eBay.

You won't be melting steel in a devil forge because they don't get hot enough. Hence why the companies that do cast steel use electric furnaces

I just purchased a 4kg from Devil Forge, Im a little disappointed in how small it is in real life - you cant even drop a pop can in to the hole.
@johannesthe5th1545 жыл бұрын
Yeah.. the size in real life surprised me also. I have been melting a lot of aluminium cans since I bought the furnace and I found that it’s not necessary to close the top. It’s hot enough for all. And there is a risk of backfire when you cover the hole. :)

@@johannesthe5th154 How do you clean your crucible after doing aluminum? Copper comes out so clean, aluminum made a mess out of mine.

I don’t use grafite crucible for melting aluminium. Instead I use a thick iron canister. They are cheap and I just scrap the excess aluminium out when it’s still hot. My grafite crucibles are for brass, copper and such :)
