E.g - Law couldnt move Kaido or BM in room because their haki was too strong. Law reverted back from female to male because his haki was too strong. This ISN'T negation. The Yami Yami no mi IS NEGATION since the user literally cannot use their powers anymore.

Who told you only humans can get their dream manifested and not other than human? Like a fishmen can a giant is also not a human. They could dream to be human. Or even non intelligent animals could also dream to be animal in various circumstances. Like this is a world where dragons attack like helicopter, snake and fuc.king sling shot. 3. And after his influence spreads after doing this time and time again, *that* is what it will mean to be "King of the Pirates." I don't think the One Piece magically makes you King of the Pirates, I think it will be more reflective of the means through which it was achieved that made it important, on top of the actual function of it.

It seems one needs to embody the dream of the fruit to awaken it. Katakuri was obsessed with sweets and awakened the mochi fruit, doflamingo was manipulating people like puppets and awakened the string fruit, Law awakened the opi opi no mi by being a good doctor, Luffy awakened his fruit by being a liberator. That would mean one would need to embody darkness to awaken the darkness fruit and might be why he is causing chaos, it would be a requirement for awakening his fruit and I think he is aware of those conditions and is all part of his plan to awaken the fruit he obsessed with his whole life.

I just realized the poignancy of a scene that I really quite disliked. Sanji wanted the devil fruit that made him invisible, and when it turned out someone else had eaten it, it 'crushed' that dream of his. Unfortunately since that was one of my least favorite bits of the entire story, I didn't really think about the thing with Sanji and Absalom for long. I wanted less of the pervert Sanji and more of the chivalrous gentleman Sanji. But in a strange way, the comparison of devil fruits to dreams had been made long ago... though only just now has it been spelled out for us.

Thematic material is now direct story material. I mean, it already was with Sabo and Ace by carrying on a person's will. Sabo even implies that he can still talk to Ace via his fruit. Intersting how devil fruits now relate to one of the three things rodger states will never end "a mans dream" along with "inherited will" (which seems to reference haki) and the third being the "ebb and flow of the ages" aka time which has yet to have real emphasis thematically in the story its been discussed but isnt attributed to anything like the other two On another note luffys true dream might actually manifest into a power by the end of the series and be somthing other than gear 5 as it was referenced at the start of this arc and oda has explored this idea of dreams = devil fruits. With the questions surrounding freedom and fate with luffy it would be interesting to see that dream come to reality and lean more into the freedom aspect. We do not yet know if luffys dreams aligns with nikas and is likely something different would be cool to see another extension of gear 5

If the Gum Gum fruit really does have a mind of its own, its interesting to note a possible reason it didn't seek out Ace, the obvious candidate for Pirate King. Ace was always haunted by his family, by his fathers legacy and the worlds view of that. Maybe this says a lot about how where we come from and what families were born into can have a huge grip on our freedom. Ace never really got over his issues relating to the world and I think it says a lot about how if we don't let go of the things haunting us we wont be as free as we could be.

Morj have you read a previous interview where Oda says what inspired him for the creation of devil fruits was Doraemon. Doraemon being a show of a robot who travels to the past from a futuristic society full of advancements and is assigned a partner Nobi, and grants his wishes through future technology that can make the average human desires feasible. He has gadgets that grant things like body switching, age/de-age yourself, shrinking/growing, flying, convert drawings into real things, time travel, or traveling dimensions. This could give somewhat more credence that devil fruits were created during the ancient kingdom where they found out how to manipulate lineage factor thus making devil fruits user mini gods. This could also explain why vegapunk is replicating dfs as they may have just been regularly made/created during the ancient kingdom which vegapunk is trying to replicate with egghead. Like Yonji said “Vegapunk latest discovery, bloodline elements are present in all living things, it was nearly a step to godhood”. However, I would like if there was a mystical or magical element to all of this like a rare magical energy made it possible so devil fruits can spawn naturally to fulfill the desires even after the fall of the ancient kingdom.

Initially, we all thought it was a nice play by Oda. But now, as it turns out, it goes even deeper. Peoples desires/dreams find a way of attracting the right devil fruit which can be seen as the ancestor of said dreams. So it is not enough that a grand dream manifests as a devil fruit, but that the devil fruit has to also find the right user to manifest this power. In other words, DFs are mini-gods that choose their priests from a host of candidates. If the current user is capable enough, the true fruit can be awakened. I bet there is still more to the classification of devil fruits. Especially mythical zoans.

The fruit only upside is in that particular situation, so it's very fitting. -snot fruit : Trebol is very, very, VERY clingy. And he's the one who glued himself to doflamingo to make him their new leader. Perfectly fitting -Giraffe fruit : mainly a design joke here, and an occasion for Oda to display that creativity can make any fruit very good I think most zoan are mainly suited with physical design and basic personnality traits. But some are a bit more interesting Like, Jyabura is a wolf, because the wolf is usually a liar in Perrauld's stories

@@iven5082 Or to Ace. The assumption that we can make is that the "Gum-Gum" fruit was stolen by Shanks so that he could give it to Ace in the mountains, but Luffy "accidentally" intercepted it. Shanks had to have know the significance of the fruit "choosing" to be eaten by Luffy, and so entrusted the future to the boy. Shanks may not have even understood the big picture, but the fruit was eaten, regardless, so he had to accept it.

Quick Theory: Zoro’s Asura is the first stage of a new Zoan Devil Fruit’s creation. Devil Fruits are born from human dreams that caused certain people to evolve beyond what they should be capable of. Zoro’s Asura is a transformation born from his desire to become the best swordsman, but it only emerges in certain circumstances, because it’s still growing into a full fledged Devil Fruit ability. I also haven’t seen Zoro swim since he first used Asura. Perhaps Zoro will become a fully formed Asura at the end of the story, and his death will lead to the creation of the Human Human Fruit: Model Asura.

At the beginning it went over my head, but the more I think about it, the more sense it all makes. We don't have to try really hard to look for examples. We know how awful the world is so a lot of the people want to just be free. And it manifests in a Luffy. The most free person in the world. Or even Chopper's dream - to find a cure for every illness. It is manifested as Law's devil fruit which basically makes him able to do that. I like that this is the explanation behind devil fruits as it works incredibly well in One Piece's world

Whether the origin of devil fruits ends up being a metaphysical one or a physical one, it's essence is absolutely perfect and it connects to everything that makes one piece what it is. That's also one of the many reasons why I've never liked people's big theories about DFs, they take a very specific route, they try to scientifically explain how they would exist and they leave the most important aspect aside, the themes of the story, what it represents. I also love this aspect of egghead, what you could call the science fiction arc of one piece, is still very much a romantic fantasy filled the classic themes of the story. And finally I think Oda is a genius by making it Vegapunk's theory, it wouldn't make sense for him to know the Truth without reaching laugh tale and it would devalue the moment we learn the truth, but with this he makes the mystery even more enticing while also revealing us the core essence of DFs, to lead us on the right path. Egghead continues to be an amazing arc and Vegapunk is quickly becoming one of Oda's most interesting characters.

Haki is just willpower manifested. We also know that will power can be imbued into objects. Will power being imbued into objects(we know that powerful haki can clad a sword in black permanently after many battles) its not crazy to see how dreams manifesting are devil fruits, dreams of people who dont pursue them actively but still wish for these things to be real. Powerful Haki is the result of people actively pursuing their dreams, which makes them stronger over time by nature of having powerful battles constantly. This is why haki > devil fruits in my opinion. Haki gets stronger because people chanse their dreams while wishful dreamers manifest devil fruits, its instant gratification and convenient for them just immediately have a power while the strongest shine from real pursuit of power and dreams. Just a general thing.

Now I'm not nearly smart enough to create a coherent theory behind this but if devil fruits = dreams, then it's very interesting that blackbeard, who is hinted to never sleep thus never dream (in a literal sense) is also the only pirate that has 2 df (2 dreams that was obtained maliciously) and is the only one that continually hunts for devil fruits (dreams). It also drive the dichotomy between him and luffy. Both are emperors but they got there in different ways. Luffy through will and actually defeating his foes, and blackbeard got to where he's at through deceit and stealing other people's df (dreams).

Then Kaido's statement that Haki (i.e. willpower) is what makes a person strong, not a Devil Fruit (i.e. dreams) carries a lot of weight. Haki being stronger than DFs makes sense to me, its easy to dream and say "I will do this thing" but to go out there and have to WILLPOWER to achieve that thing is something else entirely. More so, Willpower/Haki is something anyone can achieve in the story of One Piece but not everyone has a devil fruit, that 'dream' to achieve something. 1. I personally find the the live in a different dimension ( world ) part kinda ambiguous. It could mean that they embody the dream or depending on how complex it goes it might end up with something like the Dark series - those who ate the fruit are actually in a different world and might be developed further that they disapper at some poit or something 2. The making of a black sword might be related to realizing someone elses dreams not yours. In the beginning when Zoro fought Mihawak and told him he is doing it for his own ambition he responed with 'you fool' 3. The Gorosei suggest only zoan types have a will of their own - why and how is it related to dreams 4. It would be nice of they adopt the story in a book. It is not in line with the japanese tradition but this is a literature work that has been in development for more than 20 years. It surely has its place in history as a work of art especially considering what is popular in this age. Just a lot of people would dismiss it as childish because of the manga format.
