if you use something like Trickster style or a more defensive playstyle then you can avoid his attacks and punish pretty consistently. But, if you try to royal guard on the ground for all of his attacks like the speedrunner then it is hard to do flawlessly. The aggressive parrying style works better for speedruns because of the shotgun canceling and damage burst from the perfect releases

The elevator secret mission is actually quite easy, just use trickster style and when enemies spawn, double jump and run up the elevator chains, the enemies will simply disappear for some reason

Reminder as always (as somewhat explained in 5:56), Normal and Easy difficulties in DMC3 North America and Europe, were Hard and Normal difficulties in the original DMC3 in Japan, respectively. Special Edition fixed this and used the easier Japanese versions of difficulties, and added the Hard mode only found on the non-Japan releases as Very Hard difficulty.

17:54 Nightmare Beta is criminally underated. It boost the damage of your left hand attacks buy 15% and unlike artimis actually works in bolth multi enemy and single enemy environments not to mention it is instantly charged when you are in devil trigger. Artimis on the other hand requires gunslinger in order to focus on a single enemy takes a decade to charge and becomes weaker when you attack with anything else wile you are charging it. Honestly if artimis had more moves than (1) shoot single shot (2) shoot multiple shots at different enemies (3) shoot multiple shots at a single enemy (4) conger a ball of energy [it's lamer than it sounds] (5) make it rain lazers [also lamer than it sounds] yes you can make the argument that nightmare is bad because it uses devil trigger in order to fire the damb thing but it at least does damage when you use it also you can completely removed the cost be being in devil trigger already. Artimis does nothing passive, doesn't do enuff damage to justify useing it, and requires you to have gunslinger in order to use it for anything that you want to deal damage to (and even then it is almost useless because of all the other guns out damage it.) My point is nightmare beta is a good weapon with a combat style that requires you charge it to deal damage. Artimis is a bad weapon because it's most powerful attacks are out damaged buy any other gun, and it's clunky. Compared to nightmare beta , nightmare beta is better and is underated and it isn't a bad weapon.

Nightmare is a bad weapon. If you look at it in a vacuum by itself sure it's fine. Much like the Artemis. It's serviceable but the key difference why Nightmare was worse was because spending DT was not worth the damage. The problem for it has to do with the fact the other guns get enhanced considerably in DT. So not only would it be better DPS but also healing you on top of it. DMC3 guns are primarily for crowd control and to help juggling. Artemis has an awkward skill curve but it's functions are still serviceable and has a niche to fulfill. While Nightmare is outclassed in basically everyway. The only actual useful DPS increase it does is enhancing Ifrits Attacks. Then functionally there's nothing distinct enough to use it over the other guns

I’m almost done my first playthrough of DMC3 on default difficulty when I get to Vergil 3 and he kicks my ass harder and far more annoyingly than any boss prior. I’m stopping my session for tonight so I don’t go to sleep stressed out and decide to see how professionals handle that fight. It was not reassuring and yet somehow satisfying to see this runner die horribly on his first attempt of Vergil 3.

Reason why I never finished this game is not because of the boss fights, it was because of not knowing what to do next or where to go. I didn't hate the game for that. The game treated me like I'm smart and badass who knows what he's doing but sadly I'm not, so I abandoned the game. The way you proceed to this game is you have to watch the cutscenes and listen to the dialogue because it will tell you your objective there. But sometimes I will come back after one week of not playing it and I have no idea who am I playing again.

One correction, gold orbs were introduced in DMC 2, not 3. I believe that is why DMC 3 only had yellow orbs originally. Pretty sure there's a DT explosion in DMC 2, but it might be limited to demon god mode.

i had dmc 3 special edititon on pc with some weird controller that had buttons numbered, used it for RE4 and a few other games too. The only thing i remember of dmc 3 is after beating your brother you get swallowed by a serpent or something and i could never figure out where to go after that. I was really young at the time and had no idea what the hell to do.

You were stuck in Leviathan, Mission 8. That's really early in the game. 25:00 To be fair, there's a lot of places in DMC3 like that, where you have to find out where to go without a clue given, as if you were in a damn JRPG lol. Once you memorize all the correct ways through the levels it's no big deal though.

Nevan isn't terrible just using it is awkward. You're kind of meant to switch back and forth from it the most. It's not like the other Devil Arms that can solo a Boss. Nevan is really used in AOE Bursts or projectile lockdown. Do a normal string, switch, do a riff (AOE or Bats), then switch back. The Nevan Combo 3 Burst is the one I use a lot when dealing with mobs. Does a shit ton of damage. Hard on bosses but great on mobs.

The easy mode in the Japanese version was removed in the western release. So the easy mode in the western version was actually normal difficulty and it goes up from there.

The only difference with the original was that the normal difficulty was actually hard, the other difficulties like Dante Must Die are the same. Special edition let's you play as Vergil aswell.

Jonathan Flores To elaborate, it changes the way that the “revive” orbs work. On Gold mode, if you die you can restart from a checkpoint in the level, or you can use a “Gold Orb” consumable item to instantly revive yourself to full health at the exact spot you died. On Yellow mode, instead, if you die you have to restart the entire level. If you have an alternate revive item called a “Yellow Orb” you can restart from a checkpoint.
