Funnily enough, in Jewish tradition "Satan" is seen as more of a lawyer/prosecutor, who tries to lay out your sins to get you in trouble. I'm not making this up. (Also, my condolences about Tony.)

💯 Agree. What’s also great is his reviews aren’t tethered to the movies being the “latest”, so on top of his reviews having their own inimitable style, they are typically for films that haven’t been reviewed to, well… to hell and back.

@@cobes11 Excellent example!!! I know it how it sounds, but it’s true. It’s ALL about choice, free will, and just because you can doesn’t mean you should. We want to blame God when bad things happen. Why doesn’t he stop these atrocities??? God gave us guidelines to follow to be a good person, He didn’t say we HAVE to follow them. Choice. He ultimately has no control bc He gave us this Choice. We have to WANT to do right. People want to say The devil made me do it...well, yes and no...Temptations were laid before you that you had the Free Will to either take or leave. Just bc you can, doesn’t mean you should. 🤷♀️

My son has put away all of his toys. But I've saved them. I know whenever he's in his 30s and he opens that box. He'll be like oh Mom thanks... I wish I had everything. I was that girl that wanted the millennium falcon, and not Barbie's bus... I had a collection of He-Man She-Ra GI Joe all kinds of stuff. When the boys of the neighborhood found out I actually had boy toys. They were like oh my God are you serious. Hilarious. I'm so happy I didn't grow up in these times. Cuz I would totally be indoctrinated. Or at least they would try to indoctrinate me. If you catch my drift. I was a ballerina a gymnast a swimmer that loved to climb trees, scare the hell out of my parents, go splunking do high things in trees such as ropes courses ride horses go mudding go fishing go hunting. Yeah, I didn't mind getting muddy. Worked hard and played hard, but still look cute in a tutu. 😆👌

This movie is a lot of fun. Basically, Kevin is "Rosemary's Baby" all grown up. The ages even meet up--Kevin is 30 in 1996. Rosemary's Baby was born in 1966. Obviously, this was an influence. Al Pacino was super hungry. He at all the scenery, leaving little for everyone else. To be fair, everyone looks like they are having a blast. So, there's that. Great review. 👍

What a beautiful dedication at the beginning of this! I bet he was a really special man! "It was all a dream" is one of the cheapest endings a writer can use. I cannot forgive this movie for using it. Oh, I know, some people say it was about him making a choice, no, that could have been portrayed any number of other more creative ways without leaving huge plot holes. In all my English classes, junior high through college (and I was an English Major), the one way to guarantee failing a paper was to use that kind of ending, unless you did it REALLY creatively, in a unique way. News flash-there IS no way to make in unique enough to not be a cheat ending. It's a terrible trope.

Got to love some Al Pacino. Hoo-ah! I love this movie. It's your classic Satan tempts man trope, but with a modern twist.

The thing is, why is Milton happy at the end? Shouldn’t he be pissed that his plan was foiled? Was it all just in his head? Teaching the main character a lesson in the bathroom scene all along?
@sian23373 жыл бұрын
He’s happy cos he knows he’s gonna get his son one way or another, it’s probably a game for him. I loved Al Pacino as the devil, so handsome
@prettieschicbyflorenceanne33333 жыл бұрын
Nope. It's the whole thing - He's the Devil, he has all the moves on the board mapped out & he knows he'll get him one way or another. That's the delicious thrill at the end!
@matt_canon2 жыл бұрын
'Why is Milton happy at the end? Shouldn’t he be pissed that his plan was foiled?' The time reset event thing gives Satan the same second chance that Kevin gets. For one thing, it undoes Kevin's suicide, which is what foiled the plan. And it brings them both back to a critical juncture. Just as Kevin can choose not to defend Mr Getty, Satan can just as conveniently go to Plan B as Larry the reporter and tempt him through a career path in the media. Both have an awareness of the original timeline of events, so both have equal opportunities to learn from their mistakes. It like a 40 move chess game where not just the checkmate was reversed, but the last 20-30 moves. Just like a master chess player has thousands of ways he could win based on his opponents choices, its the same concept with Milton/Larry's plan. Anyway, that's why he was happy, same as Kevin. Their original mistakes were undone to where they both have an equal chance to do things differently.

I think you're right and the movie would have been better overall if it had stayed ambiguous but to be honest I'm more than willing to sacrifice a possibly better movie just to have that performance by Pacino.
