As someone serving in the military I have to say, the attitude of horned devils actually makes perfect sense to me. They wanted to get to a higher rank, they achieved that rank... and it sucks. So now they do the bare minimum to keep their rank and avoid trouble but are otherwise not very ambitious. That's like... every E-5/E-6 that doesn't advance.

The way I view the difference between the ambition of bone devils versus the comparative laziness of horned devils is that the bone devils are JUST THIS CLOSE to getting out of the ranks of lesser devils and finally becoming a greater devil... It's like the middle manager who's worked forever to get promoted to an executive position and is so close he can taste it. But for horned devils I think it's exactly what you said in the summary of them: there's a ton of horned devils and they make up a huge chunk of the infernal army and above them the numbers of higher ranking devils are much smaller and more unique... So once you become a horned devil you've *arrived* at greater devil, but then you're stuck at the bottle-neck (or glass ceiling) of the hierarchy and you might be stuck at that position for millennia... Because being promoted further requires an exceptional achievement or somehow attracting the attention of a higher ranking greater devil noticing you particularly out of all the other horned devils. So OF COURSE they're surly and will only do exactly what is asked of them; the incentive of promotion is no longer there if it's super rare to be promoted further and the risk of demotion is the relatively huge embarrassment of going back to lesser devil...

I've only played DnD a few times & not longer then 20-30 mins... so I've never really got into all the lore & backgrounds of the DnD universe... but I've always been super intrigued with DnD's universe because it blows my mind by being so gigantic & filled with so much intricate lore that makes the DnD universe feel like a real parallel universe to our own real universe or maybe a different deminson entirely... I bought Baldurs Gate 3 a couple days after it was released in the "early access" stage of development and I absolutely loved the story and lore behind the game & all the different characters and options you can choose... Now that Baldurs Gate 3 is fully released there's so much more content & lore that I never knew about beforehand... So these videos you guys make really help me understand this Baldur's Gate 3 universe & DnD altogether. Thank you for the hard work & taking your time out of your day to do this podcast for us.*

Pit Fiends always interested me...basically powerful enough to challenge a lesser deity, but still in service to others....interesting. I wonder if one if them could make pacts to create warlocks to serve them? That way they could gather more souls for them perhaps? I need to think on this more.

Aurin saint the phb directly states that pit fiends are perfectly viable patrons. Also pit fiends are not strong enough to take even lesser dieties, seeing as pit fiends are weaker than the weakest demon lords. And the demon lords aren't all that strong. (Relatively speaking)

A pit fiend is really, really strong and can fight a dragon or destroy a city, but a deity can pick up the entire plane the fiendis on and toss it into the Elemental Chaos. They are not comparable. A demigod or avatar on the other hand...

The devils mostly having a certain personality at ifferent stages just seems to me like how most humans at 2-3 are terrible. and most 16 years old humans are horn dogs without the ability to think ahead. most 90 year olds are forgetful and bad drivers.

So if a demon killed someone on the material plane would they go to the abyss or only if they are at the abyss.

If a mortal in the abyss dies their spirit will become a demon. Also if a mortal possessed by a demon is killed, even via an exorcism, their soul is dragged to the abyss with the demon.

If a demon just shows up in thematerial plane and starts killing people those souls just go to the Fugue Plane and are channeled towards their heaven or hell

Cody LaDuke dnd has never borrowed anything more than names and mild inspiration from any religion. They have a lot of references to the Christian Satan, because he has way too many names to keep track of. I'm sure that at least some of the later 2nd ed settings dived into Christian conflicts, but the system has always tried to stay as far away from actual religion as possible.

She is not very.. lawful and not very cohesive with her ideals. She wants everything to worship her and destroy what she wants. If it does not involve her or her followers. If it serves no use other then to slaves. It should die. They are weak, ugly and dumb. And she would not make a loyal or tolerant follower. She betrayed her own pantheon and people and failed, what would stop her from doing that againsy asmo? And she could make a super race of beings. Drow with devilish bloodlines? They would be super strong, intelligent to such a degree that most mortal races cannot even grasp how intelligent their minds could work Their agility would be blindingly fast. With a dominerring charisma with potent magical and infernal powers and if organized to such a degree, they could be nearly unstoppable. And she would have been given a position of power, it would have to be a requirement. If she gets the gates to hell guardian position. She could make an alliance or deal with demons, or turn a blind eye and let demons flood into hell. Make deals and alliances with devils who will start a coup to kill their devil leader and if they die.. That new leader could be an ally to her. If asmo prevents that, he has to divert more energy and focus away from his plethora of other responsibilities that demand much focus and power. She is full of negatives and has too much troubles about her and would not be a suitable canidate for devilship. Even if asmo could, I bet lolth would turn that offer down. She is a dominatrix, she wants ultimate power. She wants to rule and be top spider queen. She has a twisted outlook on everything and her own malovelence, her own pride, greed, envy, wrath. She is not a follower, she is a leader with whit and charm but extremely cruel to the core, more then devils. She does not care for laws and rules, the strongest survive and thrive. The weak will die, she does as she wants and how she wants. No one will object her will and she wants that.

They are because succubi are demons not devils. They just work for devils most of the time because they are not as chaotic as normal demons due to a mutation.

Only contract I'd make is one that states I can't be demoted into a lemure imp lesser devil and part of the deal is I get to be Asmodeus only wife and mother of his devil children and he is only allowed to be with me in a woohoo intimate way no other females males anyone anything he must remain faithful to me and only me that's my pact if he says yes me being in a human body atm I can sweet talk people into making a contract ❤
