I'm relatively new to DT having dived in around 2020 or so. I'm 56 and heard his name long ago when I lived in BC but wasn't into the scream at that point. You nailed it. His voice has become much better and refined/controlled since SYL. You can see he's 'grown up' since then also lol. SYL had that raw energy and IDGAF that only ages 20 to 35 can give you depending on your lot in life and childhood etc. He hasn't lost the energy as his live stuff is off the friggin scale. I was too lazy to go and see him with Dream Theatre and Animals as Leaders when they came here. I'm an idiot.

To all those people hoping that this might mean a SYL reunion, Devin has said on many occasions that he doesn't see it happening EVER. He said that while SYL was always a big hit at festivals, their headlining shows would sometimes only have 50 people in the audience, and that people look back at SYL through "rose-tinted glasses". I think he's only willing to play a few SYL songs NOW (which he said he'd never do) in shows where he's MOSTLY playing non-SYL music. If he did a SYL reunion, he'd have to play nothing but SYL, and based on what I've read over the years, I'm almost positive he will NEVER do that again.
