You’re very, very welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed this. It’s not the typical first choice that you’d have been recommended, that would have been either Kingdom (live EMG) or Deadhead live Royal Albert Hall. I’m sure you’ll get to them. I also think Failure is a fairly mediocre track of his by comparison to the back catalogue but it is easily accessible and demonstrates various aspects of his creative endeavour - songwriting, singing, orchestration, guitar playing. His music is predominantly uplifting and positive, though the delivery is often fierce and brutal. Failure is a slow burner and a fine introduction, though, and I hope you do, if you do decide to dive deep, you’ll realise his scope, ambition, mad creativity, humour and talent can’t be easily represented in one song. By the way, he doesn’t always have an orchestra! This was a one off special gig a few years ago. You already know Strapping Young Lad so are fully aware of how heavy he can be! If you get a chance to watch some interviews with him you’ll realise what a sincere, humble, rounded, funny and articulate human he is. That uncontrollably spills into his artistry colouring and informing his output so one day you might have a sprawling epic 22 minute prog masterpiece about artificial intelligence (Singularity) or a comedy metal space opera about a coffee loving alien (Ziltoid The Omniscient). I suppose it’s that human element and vulnerability that makes him believable, a true artist. Thanks for the shoutout, enjoy the journey! Jim

Great choice Jim. As a huge Devin fan I gotta say it was super refreshing to see something other then Kingdom as a first reaction. I love the song, but it is more of a wow factor song and half the time the reactor never comes back. This as you said is a much better mixture of his music even if it is not as high caliber as some other tracks. Here is to more Ziltoid and Might Masturbator reactions as well!

Devin is one of the most talented musicians in metal. Great vocalist and guitars. Kingdom is usually everyone's intro to him on reactions. That'll blow you away. Deadhead is great too. Also, Love? by Strapping Young Lad shows a completely different side. Looking forward to seeing you two dive further into his stuff.

So happy to see this reaction vid and you two of course, hope all is well. In my opinion Devin Townsend is a musical genius and a true master of his craft. He's also such a humble, positive and down to earth guy on top of that. A lot of people will recommend Deadhead and Kingdom, so I will try to mix it up by suggesting Deep Peace (live from Plodiv) as my reaction video wish. I miss going to concerts so much, so thank you for these good vibes. With love, JP.

Stormbending or Deep Peace from this same live show at Plovdiv, or maybe Grace live from the Retinal Circus so you can hear Devin with Anneke. His music is a huge wall of sound, from Strapping Young Lad to today. He's incredible and diverse and most of it is just amazing
@aldousorwell38073 жыл бұрын
You have to see Devin's roots! *Strapping Young Lad 'Love?' Official Music Video* Goes all the way back to about 1990. One of the heaviest songs ever! Phenomenal drumming! Awesome vocals. And the lyrics are brilliant!
@Vaerdun3 жыл бұрын
Probably my favourite track by Devin Townsend - this live performance is incredible and the Bulgarian orchestra is phenomenal. You can see their faces, no idea what they got themselves into haha Failure (on CD) is just as incredible, suspect more powerful due to the clean recording but the solo kicks ass more live. Deadhead (live at Royal Albert Hall) should be next ;)

Nice reaction guys. Deadhead live at the Royal Albert Hall is INCREDIBLE. Some of the vocals will make your hair stand on end. People have been known to cry or have near religious experiences with that one. You owe it to yourselves to experience it. Grace live (Retinal Circus version) is also a killer. All of his songs kill. As heavy as the heaviest thing, as gentle as a feather. Welcome to the rabbit hole.

@lred13833 жыл бұрын
The mix of that concert is both a blessing and a curse, especially for Higher. The heaviness of the initial breakdown is massively boosted by the louder bass, but the guitar sitting so low in the mix, especially compared to the drums, makes the riffing sections just awkward
