As much as it pains me to say it, because it's how I "discovered" AKA first heard him, but probably because of Strapping Young Lad. While a badass band, it's metal. And regardless of how little sense it makes, people will never respect metal despite it being a VERY broad genre comprised of seemingly infinite sub genres which are LOADED with some of the best lyricists, vocalists, and most definitely musicians in the entire music industry.... period. Nothing annoys me more when the mainstream media worships and calls fucking Beyonce and musical and artistic genius. "Genius" is quite possibly yet another word the mainstream clearly doesn't know the definition of..... to go with a multitude of other words they misuse and most certainly overuse. Bottom line, I completely agree with you. Townsend is a musical mastermind. He loves metal though, and as I too age like him I am finding I will be a metalhead for life. While I appreciate other genres (outside of pop and present day rap) more than I used to, I find I am drawn to metal..... that and oddly classical music for some reason as I age. I guess what "they" say is true in how much metal and classical have in common because I feel like I enjoy them for the same reasons. The musicianship and just overall skill it takes to compose and play said music. Had Townsend gone straight from Steve Vai into what he does nowadays and has been doing for about 20 years I'm not sure if he'd be more widely known but I bet he'd be at least talked about more if that makes sense, at least amongst his music playing and singing peers. But without SYL there quite possibly wouldn't be a DTP or DTB. SYL's success allowed Townsend to continue to do his own thing. That all said, i think if Devin wanted to he could easily be as well known and highly regarded as the likes of modern composers such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, etc. I could easily see Townsend taking a route like Trent Reznor did when he started scoring films with his buddy Atticus Ross. If Townsend decided to do that I can only imagine how much he'd crush it. VERY easy to see him winning an Oscar for best film score, haha. I mean some of his albums currently i think could be taken as is and put in a film as a score and it would fit perfectly. Imagine if he did it with the intent of him composing music specifically for a movie score purpose. BUT...... i don't think he'd be able to work within those restraints. He's repeatedly said how much he hates working with record labels because they'll immediately label you as something and expect you to keep producing that something. I'd like to think being a film score composer though would be a little (if not a lot) less restrictive. Also....... still waiting for a Ziltoid major motion picture musical to be produced. I honestly think if he had the desire to do any of that.... he could. I think he's perfectly content though just making music HE wants to make.

To be quite honest, "i never gave a chance" for this song, the title itself felt quite cheesy, and then the music was out of my world too.. i always felt i shouldnt listen to it. well, i have to say, i was a fool.
