So fired up to drop the first bike review of 2020! There were a few reasons I decided to go with the ‪@CyclesDevinci‬ Troy as bike 1. The first is that it's just a REALLY good looking bike and I'm into that sort of thing. Second, the local dealer is a rad dude! Drew Kolb of Revolution Mobile Bike Repair is who I purchased the bike through and it's been rad having him there for support down the road. Also, I failed to mention in this video that Drew tossed a FULL Ride Wrap kit on this thing. I'll drop a link down below.
I decided to go large on this one and I think it was the right choice. It's certainly a long bike, but I've subsequently dropped down to a 40mm stem and flipped the chip into the up position. This shortens it up a bit and gets the head tube angle to 66.5. NOTE I'm really good with this HA number. Anything slacker than 66 and it feels a bit funny to me. I actually ran an angled cup in my Firebird to pull 3/4 of a degree out and steepen it up. Not everyone feels this way, that's cool.
It's the X01 LTD build. This means it has an X01 rear derailleur and GX everything else. This isn't a bad thing by any means, but I did notice some funny cassette engagement periodically. It was remedied by switching to an X01 cassette.
Code brakes are LEGIT! Enough said.
Rock Shox suspension components are also LEGIT!! Great feel right out of the box.

I'm REALLY digging this bike so far! I didn't expect to like it as much as I do. It feels incredibly capable and ate up Spider Mountain. However, it's also been killer on 30+ mile XC type rides here in Bentonville.
At this point, I have nothing but good things to say about this bike. In addition to shortening the stem, I'm gonna throw a custom built set of wheels with Cushcore on and that might just be it.
Shoot me any questions you might have about this bike and I'm happy to answer them!

It's hard to go wrong with any these new trail/enduro bikes coming out with their modern geometry these days. You can basically point to anything in the shop and probably be pretty happy with your choice :) With that said I picked up a 2019 Devinci Troy 29r GX build last summer. It came with the 150mm Pike fork vs 160mm Lyrik on the LTD build. I would be curious to ride the LTD to see how it differs from my GX. The Troy is my second Devinci Bike with the first being a 2015 Dixon RXS. The Troy is my favorite/best bike that I have ever owned : ) I am officially a Devinci Fan Boy now. Great review Rich :)

I do think the SRAM drive is a good spec and RS makes an amazing suspension! I just feel XT’s especially the new ones paired with 180 or 200mm rotors, are above the rest. the SP DW link, no doubt is about as good as it gets and let’s not forget the fact that the wider spaced 157mm and a ton of stability and solid feel in the rear. I’m looking forward to your mid term review!

Such a RAD bike!! I'm excited to get some more time on it around NWA and really compare it to the SB and FB. Django looks pretty cool also. That 120/140 setup really seems to be the sweet spot for bikes now a days.

Rich Drew it’s a fast bike, no doubt. I built the Troy with a Pike Ultimate, XT 12 speed and some We Are One wheels. Looking for a long legged trail bike I can take to the park too. One thing about Devinci’s is they aren’t the lightest frames but the are solid and stiff as hell.

Ioannis Paraskevopoulos Hey there Ioannis! I certainly can’t speak on the Hightower since I haven’t ridden one. However, I can’t imagine you needing anything more in an all mountain bike than the Troy! The high end capability is incredible, but it’s ability to handle long pedals is also awesome!

Hi, I am already riding a Devinci Troy 2017 carbon medium frame, 27,5 wheels and I love it. I look to go with a 29er this year. As you are 5’-10 like me, were you riding a medium or a large. I felt my medium a bit short, but afraid to find de large too big. I’m curious to hear you about that. Thank you.

Interesting to hear your take on it. I picked up a Troy 27.5 last year. I also felt like the bike was very long and required me to really get over the front of it to get traction cornering(came off of a 2016 Remedy). The bike is happiest when ridden HARD. To me it felt like buying confidence on the really Gnarly Quebec trails. For climbing I found it was very good at the slow tech climbs, but certainly not an XC bike on the fire road stuff. I found the low and slack setting on the frame had too many pedal strikes in tech trails. How much sag did you wind up running? I felt like the bike was better at just a bit over 25%.

Know you only had one ride on the RM but how do you think the Troy and Rocky Mountain Instinct BC edition compare? Thanks!
@richdrewtherideseries
@richdrewtherideseries 4 жыл бұрын
StokedSpoke Hey there! They felt quite a bit different to me. Both of them are rad bikes, but I was partial to the initial feel of the Troy. The RM was super harsh in the rear and that took some getting used to. I’d love to get some more time on the RM and acclimate to it. I’m REALLY digging this Troy! A shorter stem and changing the flip chip to the high position has been awesome!

I got serious problems with the paint job on my Troy 19. It took 3 months to have a 3th frame. When I wrapped it in with a protection kit from ride wrap I got again paint issues. For me the quality of Devinci is not the best. Bike rides good but quality is not the best. For me this is my last Devinci. It's a bummer because I loved the brand. But all the troubles and the communication with the customer service decided to never buy it again. And the weird thing , when you speak bad about Devinci it's like you killed somebody. But this is my experience.

@@MTBFreeks I have the carbon version (zenith colour).The wrap was still wet when I peeled it off to change it a little bit. Then a very thin layer came off. For me it's not normal paint is loosing when you remove a wrap or a decal. Carbon or alloy. Have a nice day
