Beast Mode is back! And in today’s video we’re featuring Swedish powerhouse, Dirty Loops.
Dirty Loops broke the Internet back in 2011 and they’ve since scored big time with their flipped cover versions of hit pop songs. I’ve been following them from the very beginning, and being a bass player, Henrik Linder is now one of my biggest bass heroes!
Henrik’s approach catches me off guard every single time; slap bass, tapping, harmonics, chords, and finger funk playing.. he’s unlike anything I’ve ever heard before.
Ready to see what happens when Henrik goes Beast Mode??
As always, see you in the shed…
Scott :)

It would be injustice to say that only Henrik goes on beast mode. The vocals is monstrously spectacular and the drums so nuanced I can certainly discern ghost notes, all the time!😲

I'll be honest, I clicked on this video to see a lengthy compilation of Henrik absolutely losing which is worth its own price of admission. What I wasn't expecting was to see you breaking it down and as if to have us get things twisted, you actually _played_ those parts note for note. Subscribed!

I don’t even listen to this band and don’t think I’ve heard them before but because of this video, I stumbled across another great bass player...also, the way you are breaking down the slap technique in this video (especially with the over fretboard graphics) is extremely helpful to me and I appreciate the through effort on your part...not just a great beast mode video, but an excellent mini slap tutorial as well...nicely done..!

It's funny - I personally wouldn't have picked these 3 examples as "going beast mode". As someone who was very heavily influenced by Mark King when I first started playing bass, slap lines like these don't particularly terrify me - it's Henrik's fingerstyle playing that makes me want to give up!

What a super review and reviewer! I'm one of the millions that can't get enough of Dirty Loops. It's interesting that Henrik gets so much (very deserved) praise. Interesting in that as a keyboard player, I focus on Jonah's genius. All 3 are brilliant - I doubt too many would disagree. A true gestalt.

Scott, I really like seeing Henrik because he's soo good at filling in where he needs to and shining when it is required. Also, in regards to other "Beast Mode" interviews, I'm curious as to why you haven't done anything SERIOUS with Davie504. He's a phenomenal BASSist and has managed to become one of KZbin's more famous denizens while playing some ridiculously good BASS in the process. If you could get a SERIOUS interview instead of his KZbin "Schtick" it would be very interesting to get an insight into him and his playing too. Of course, in the same breath, you could also look at Charles Berthoud too who flows so smoothly from tap to slap to just flatout beast-mode DragonForce-esque thumbing. As an old-fart BASSist, I really enjoy your channel, but also see a lot of these younger folks playing so good too (which makes me wish I had something like KZbin when I was much younger instead of them crappy StarLicks transcriptions on tapes and VHS). They have stuff to share too and your platform is an outstanding BASS-orientated place to talk about it without the veneer of eye-gasm-y KZbin obnoxiosity. Thanks! And thanks for your BASS passion too!

As a guitarist, I am so amazed by the percussive elements in these pieces. The scales/notes are not extremely complex, but the rhythm and dead notes make these pieces SOOO much more difficult. They sound amazing though! I'm going to dedicate some time to learn more bass. Such a cool instrument.

Awesome slap technique! You have featued many bass players from different styles, but there is one that is very underated and overlooked though he is quite expressive and skilled on fretless bass. Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam, and other projects. The song Breath on the Singles sound track is what first me aware that they had a fretless bass player, and I started listening closer to their other songs and realized that there are lots of subtle slides and harmonics on most of their songs. This guy is the one that really got me interested in fretless bass, especially with a rock band. I would like to see a good feature on him and give him some overdue credit. Just my 2 cents....lol
