2 birthdays ago I rented a local theater which lets you bring any movie you own for a private showing. My friends and I went and screamed WITNESS ME and just in general had an incredible experience. It’s still the only movie I ever saw 5 times in theaters

They should do that more in general. Popular movies use to get multiple runs in the Hollywood Golden age. Like you see movies on the adjusted for inflation list most are old as movies that were re-released every few years. Now if you're lucky a movie will be re-released for a day, for one or two screenings, and you better hope you're off that day.

I still remember watching on my tiny phone with my wife one night when we couldn't sleep. We probably didn't have internet setup yet at our new apartment, but decided to use cell phone data to download it after my cousin purchased it. One of the most memorable vehicle chases ever. I was left in awe and at the edge of my seat because of word of mouth from the practical effects.

This movie was ridiculously satisfying to those of us who grew up with the original trilogy. It's not quite a sequel, not quite a remake. It has a lot of imagery that's borrowed from all three of the original films, but repurposed in ways that make it all it's own. Glad you enjoyed it!

Valhalla is from Norse or Celtic mythology (cant remember which at this time), it's where great warriors go after death. It's a realm where they fight and enjoy large feasts for all eternity... almost. In the movie I'm sure Joe stole the tale and added fast cars to the story.

Valhalla is Norse. After a battle, the Valkerie (females on flying horses) would ride out and collect the souls of warriors who died brave deaths. They would feast in the long house every night and train every day to prepare for the end of the current world, Ragnarok, the last battle.

My favorite part about the Mad Max series is how the collapse of civilization happened. Major international war leading to nuclear Holocaust. That on its own wasn’t enough to collapse everything though. It was the hard times and the lack of resources that lead to bandits overwhelming the existing police and governmental forces (which Max was a member of during the fall). This is how it happened in The Postman (the book, not the movie) as well. The nukes absolutely messed things up, but people were banding together and doing a good job of picking up the pieces after the war…and then the political extremists fucked it up. Our species survived two ice ages. There’s nearly nothing that we cannot survive when we work as a team and watch out for one another…as always our biggest enemy is our greed, lust for power, greed, etc etc.

I love that this is never really explicitly just stated in any of the Max films. It's shown what society turns into when we stop working together for the common benefit of all. And it's true... our species has weathered some stuff that should have killed us. Pretty sure we'd come out the other side of a meteor impact as well. Not in great shape, but we'd come through. It's when we turn on each other that everything ends. "Who killed the world then?!"

there are three cities, the city with the water and titty milk, a city where they refine the gasoline that the fat guy rules over, and a city where they make the bullets where the dude covered in ammo that goes blind rules. so the three old dudes control everything and work with each other because they all have something the other person needs.

Fury Road dove much deeper into the lore of Mad Max much more than the first 3 movies, and it has some great tie in anthology comics made by Vertigo Comics that tell several stories before Fury Road. If you can check those out, Devin, they're fantastic. They give sense to Max's flashbacks of people who he let die and also how the wasteland and its inhabitants came to be. And in recent memory it had one of the greatest tie in video games ever made.

9:35 One really cool thing they kept consistent with all the Mad Max movies is how the language is used. The idea was that parts of words and phrases were never taught only passed down orally; and the idea of angels being glowing beings is why they paint their faces chrome before they die.

Just to let you know - this wasn't a movie. It's actually a documentary that covers three days and two nights in the life of an everyday milk truck delivery driver in the Australian outback. And you know this happens in Australia, because of the guitarist. Pure Aussie.

Fun fact! In the mad max video game (made in 2015, which I still own); the "Buzzards" are one of the main enemy factions (the guys who jumped furiosa at the beginning). They actually only go out at night on most occasions, staying in during the day. And, they wear those masks and use the spiky cars. In all reality, the "War Rig" was just a chance too good to pass up.

Hey Devin, Immortan Joe used to be a war hero, a colonel in the Australian Army. When the world went to crap, he gathered up a group of soldiers and went out to forge a new society. Eventually, he gave up and just started running a ruthless biker gang that grew bigger by killing other gang leaders and absorbing their followers. Eventually, he heard of the citadel, with its huge reserve of drinking water. Joe sieged the place with his gang in a bloody war, and after single handedly killing the last of the defenders in an infiltration mission, he earned the title "Immortal," or "Immortan."

Devin, if you like war movies, check out Sahara from 1943 starring Humphrey Bogart. The movie was released in the middle of WWII when it wasn't clear yet which side would win. Makes it all the more dramatic watching the movie with that in mind. It has an awesome "defend the fort" situation towards the end, in which water becomes the bargaining chip for a tense standoff. Really great movie!

The original trilogy of Mad Max movies were Mad Max (1979), The Road Warrior (1981) and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (1985). This is a reboot of the franchise, but not a remake of any of the original trilogy. Mel Gibson played Max in the original movies. The first two had more of an independent movie vibe. The first one is really an origin story and the second one (in my opinion) is the best. The third movie is more commercial and features Tina Turner as the "villain".

The Wars Boys were suffering from tumors from the fallout in the air that's why they were using air masks. The War Boys ( half life) are kamikazes that sprayed themselves with silver paint ( shiny and chrome like a car )that would get them high before dying . They just started principle shooting on Mad Max Furiosa due to come out in 2024. This is a prequel that was already written explaining all the mythology you just witnessed 😉 The new sequel is darker , bigger chase scenes, and more of a story with wasteland wars, and not just a road war all out chase like Fury Road . This film did deserve the 6 Oscars and definitely wasn't MEDIOCRE!

Valhalla is the Hall of the Honored Dead in Norse mythology. There, all of the mightiest warriors who died in battle sit drinking mead, telling tales of valor and generally having a party with the gods. In this crazy story, the "society" here has apparently adopted some Norse mythology into their beliefs. The insane toughness of life in this story is a mirror to the famously harsh reality of Norse(viking) life.

Awesome reaction as always, Devin. Funnily enough, I just watched this again last night, it's such a masterpiece of cinema. Of course, the action/chase scenes are truly epic, but I find the little details that aren't fully told to the audience to be the really great thing about the movie. Also, the cinematography is top-notch. I'd definitely recommend checking out Mad Max, and Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. A nice incentive for the previous movies is Mel Gibson is Max. Anyway, keep up the great work, Devin! PS: Vahalla is where Viking warriors go when they die in battle. It was the greatest honor that they could get, was death in battle.

Valhalla was from the Viking religion. True warriors who died on the battlefield went there - it was "the hall of the gods." There they would spend every day in glorious battle with each other, and afterwards the dead ones would get up and the wounded would heal and they would spend all night drinking and feasting and partying together as friends. This was the Viking warrior's idea of paradise. When the Viking apocalypse came - a final battle called Ragnarok - the warriors of Valhalla would form an army and march out under the orders of the gods of Asgard, Odin and Thor and Balder and the rest, to fight a massive army of evil - fire giants, frost giants, trolls, giant monsters of all kinds, and a horde of those Viking warriors who had died DIS-honorable deaths and thus been denied Valhalla. Everyone would slaughter everyone else, and the world itself would catch fire and burn away, until only one man and woman were left. So in the world of MAD MAX FURY ROAD, Immortan Joe has formed this cult of the War Boys who worship him as a living god, and raised them believing in his own version of Valhalla, a paradise waiting for them "at the end of Fury Road." I think this is just their way of saying "dying a warrior's death," with Fury Road being the name for a War Boy's last battlefield. As for the face paint, I think it was to show that the War Boys literally identified with and almost worshipped their vehicles ("war rigs"), the way ancient warriors would care for and identify with their warhorses, or maybe worship an animal whose power and cunning they respected, like mountain cultures worshipping bears or island cultures worshipping sharks. So when a War Boy was preparing for death, they would spray their faces in chrome as if BECOMING a war rig themselves, a high-power death machine running over their enemies and crushing them beneath their wheels. Awesome reaction as always, keep them coming.

I will never get tired of watching this movie, and watching people's reactions to it. It is such an EPIC Masterpiece. I've also been reading the Graphic Novel(s) tie-ins.. it's really good too. Especially Imortan Joe's story. He's Top Dog, because he was a Former SpecOps Soldier turned biker/drifter/marauder after The Bombs fell. He Stole that Place where he is Currently Now "Ruling" from another group of People who were exploiting Survivors. He (more so, his Followers) Created The 'Immortan Joe' façade around this "Origin".. along with a "Religion" pieced together with, of course, broken tokenism of Viking Mythos. 😅 Where if you die Bravely, you'd go to Heaven (Valhalla) and dine McDonalds with Heroes. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 ...of course, all of this said by people to people, whom are totally not aware of what either of those mean. But what you gonna do? Question The Prophet?! 😅

Two other great apocalyptic movies with a unique narratives are The Postman (1997) and Waterworld (1995), both starring Kevin Costner. Neither was particularly "well received", and Waterworld had all kinds of production delays, budget overages, and fan backlash, but I've never been one to listen to the critics. I generally love the movies that are "hated on". Neither is as action packed as Mad Max: Fury Road, but both are sprawling, epic post apocalyptic sagas.

If I may add, Tom Hardy at his BEST is in Bronson. If you have not seen that movie, do yourself a favor and watch it now. Stop whatever is going on, find where you can see it and do it. (This is for anyone who appreciate Tom Hary's work and may have not seen that amazing film.) Probably a bit too intense for a reaction on KZbin but just watch it.

The only issue I have with this movie is that blood doesn't work the way they think it does. Blood group O rh- is only a "universal donor" of packed red blood cells. For plasma (not as often transfused, and for very different reasons), it's the exact opposite, it can only receive. For whole blood, as in this movie, you can only safely transfuse type-to-type directly. Also, it's not clear how Immortan Joe's clan would have blood typing tests that would still work.
