Sweet dog indeed. We (veterinary practice) have operated on many gun and other very active dogs with the same problem. Socks are just the start... Maybe they were bored?

It's also a chasing game. They get attention from the owners at the wrong moments

Yes, my neighbor's very small dog was operated on after swallowing a short piece of rope (US$5,000). In his youth, my Jack Russell Terrier jumped on the counter and dug a turkey bone out of the closed garbage bin, removed by endoscope (US$3,200) even though he respects the "leave it" command outside to the extent that he now knows what to leave alone. My JRT is now 14 and doesn't jump on much of anything and spends most of my twice daily mile walks observing from his stroller (he has degenerative arthritis in his hips and shoulders and an enlarged heart and collapsed trachea but still loves the walks _and kissing the ladies who stop to give him scratches and pets_ .

Bertie is such a beautiful, sweet dog. I'm glad that Graeme was able to help the owners!

Shouldn't get a working breed unless you want to put in the time to train ,, they need a lot of mental and physical stimulation.

Indeed. I have a working cocker spaniel myself. Took the time to research and understand the breed before having her and put the work you’re talking about in. She’s an absolute angel! People always comment about how lovely and well behaved she is

I hope she keeps on working with Bertie , he needs that , any kind of work

This dog needs plenty of toys and puzzles. I did not see any around their house. Sad.

they had them in the yard. Some owners have toys as an outside thing because they usually result in wet floors

For goodness sake this working dog needs PLENTY of interesting past times that mimic what he was bred for, poor dog. These people need a lap or toy breed of dog.
@MsJubjubbird5 ай бұрын
Seems they have a good yard for him to play in with toys and a good field nearby. Many a spaniel has been happy in such conditions
@josephinestecak49455 ай бұрын
@@MsJubjubbird some spaniels have been more "pet bred" so needing somewhat less stimulation. If a dog is still from proper working stock, or closer to that breeding, then their minds need something that mimicks what their job in the field would be. We have a Patterdale Terrier that has four hourly walks and still needs mock hunting games (chase, rag, kill) with tough rope toys to satisfy her mind.

@josephinestecak well good for you. Very few people can spend so much time with their dogs. This dog has loving owners, a garden to play in, walks in the woods and is taken to the vet when needed. I wish all dogs had the same.

@@emilydavison2053 what I said was it is a working dog breed, they need so much more interaction and stimulation. If that is not possible then get a pet bred dog. I made the same mistake a good many years ago purchasing a working line Jack Russell, I had to pass him on to someone with more time as I had a mountain dog (very laid-back and easy going) and ponies too.
